The Envy will raep the 15" MBP in every aspect, even browsing. If you do any gaming, or processor/graphics or even RAM heavy tasking, the Envy will be miles ahead.

Cons are battery life, and well, it's not a Mac.

The envy is a beast of a machine . . . really impressive. Also, it looks really sexy. If I weren't constrained to an Nvidia graphics card so that I could develop CUDA code, I'd probably have already purchased one of those bad boys.

AU Uni promo ends 3/29

No wonder we haven't seen a refresh before now. The AU "Free iTouch" promo doesn't end until March 29th, 2010. Seems to me Apple will wait until after 3/29 before releasing a new line. Anyone recall how soon after the US back to school promo ended that Apple had a refresh?

I hope MBP is released soon!!

Shouldn't the safe bet be that Apple simply wants the front page of its web site -- and all press coverage -- to be all about the iPad for at least a week? Maybe more? Even if Arrandale MacBooks are steaming towards Long Beach right now, they're going to hold off announcing it because the company wants the iPad to shine -- maybe even until April 3.

Sure, it's harder on their loyal Mac customers, but it's probably the best business decision they can make. If they stood to lose money on MacBooks in the present or future -- they don't -- then it would be different. Right now they have a responsibility to their shareholders to make the iPad as profitable as possible.

It's that or they're having production (heat or other) issues and it's messed up their timing for a release. Those, or some combination, are the only thing that makes business sense (that my little mind can understand).

Yes. They are waiting on a tiny sub fraction of the overall market to release new MacBook pros.

Or, like they do every other time, they can exclude any models that are newer than the previous offer.

New USB MyBook 3.0 works on MBP

Just an update; I bought a new MyBook 3.0, 2TB from WD, USB 3. I bought it in the hope that the new MPBs will support USB 3. The WD website states it isn't Mac compatible, but I just received it, connected it to my USB port and it showed up right away, but I can't create any folders, will play with it.

Perhaps it came formatted with NTFS and is therefore read-only. Reformatting it as HFS (for Mac-only use) or FAT (for Mac/Windows use) in Disk Utility ought to solve that. Unfortunately FAT has some limitations at such large drive sizes.

I´ve been following these "MBP Update next tuesday" for quite a while.
I really need a new computer (I´m a Mac user) by the end of the month: I´ll be away from home, in Africa for 6 months.

Although the current specs perfectly suit my needs, I´ve decided to wait as much as possible. So, on the 10th March, after speaking by phone to a salesman at the Apple Online Store, I decided to order the 15" MPB 2.66ghz, with preinstaled iWork and also a Magic Mouse.

The - very friendly - salesman told me he was unaware of any MBP update. He also told that he was not sure about the shipping times.
However, when I try to track the Order, it has no details, except for an estimated delivery date.
Note that the order has not yet been assigned to a carrier, and doesn´t have a tracking number.
15 days to deliver a MBP? Probably the are out of stock.

Shipped on: Mar 13, 2010 via SYNCREON
APPLE MAGIC MOUSE-ZML

Shipped on: Mar 13, 2010 via Merge In Tnst NL Til |
Delivers: 24 Mar, 2010 - 25 Mar, 2010
MBP 15.4/ CTO

PS - I´m currently in Portugal. Some colleagues have told me that it´s an unusual shipping/delivery time for the product.

Question?

If these are Austrailian Dollars

1,899.00 AUD = 1,143.76 GBP

Is this for the 13 inch model do you think or the 15 inch model?

In the UK the current 15 inch model starts at £1328, any idea/guesstamites what the new price will be?

does anyone know if the high end mbp 13in 4gig will handle logic pro 9 well. i know it will handle it fine on simple tunes but what about when your using plugins and stuff. memory intensive things and such, will i eventually encounter problems down the line or will it work well and fast. i think i am going to wait anyway but i really dont want to.

Got it working

Yeah, I know, I run into that quite a bit. I searched the web and found a NTFS driver for the Mac from Paragon.com, it mounts NTFS drives and lets you copy, write, etc. So except for the USB function, it works fine. I'm just hoping Apple doesn't skimp and not put USB 3 on the new MBPs.

They hate being stuck with large stocks of old models just as much. Apple's secrecy makes decisions in this respect quite difficult.

So, what you're telling me, is that because JB Hi fi doesn't want to get burnt by buying "old stock", they'll turn customers away saying no stock, we can't get any. And if that's the case, those retailers will go elsewhere? Sorry, but retailers hate losing business. I simply don't buy it. If JB Hi Fi is not stocking the current MBPs, then it'll be for a very good reason, and I'm sure they know more than what we do.

:) I have every finger crossed! :p

me too!

actually.. doesn't crossing a second pair mean you negate the effect?
Eek, make sure you're crossing an odd pair of digits!

I am because I broke my macbook and have been without for ages. I refuse to update to the present overpriced, antiquated macbook line.

Come on guys....

I cannot believe how optimistic some of you are. I mean, we did NOT get the update yesterday and there is no way in hell that apple is going to release it so close intill the iPad.

I don't think it will come out untill end of April, then everyone has gotten their dirty little fingers all over that ****ing ipad and they can finnally start focusing on other things then it.

But then again, I really hopes all of this ends in something good. Cause nothing is coinsidense here. Apple knew when they'd release the iPad and they know when to release the MBP. That gives them as much time as possible to develop a good laptop with great specs and features.

Right now I'm thinking that the longer we wait, the better it gets :D
