I wanted to buy the 15" MBP last friday at a certified reseller The salesman told me that it is sold out, and for over a week he didn't get any new ones. He told me that it probably has to do with the new updates. So I sure want to wait for the new MBP. This weekend I was searching the internet looking for rumours about a release date that's why i end up here. But in the Netherlands were i live is a techsite (tweakers.net) with also a similar thread. That is were found this image

Is this true? if it is I sure want to wait for it. I hope it is not a hoax.

I think a 3D computer is a bit unrealistic for right now. 3D TV's arent even popular yet

was only relaying an information I thought worth sharing

Hey, relax. I wasn't putting you down. I should've included a ;)!

Also, I wonder if this thread will become busy every Monday from now on. It always seems to appear every Monday, when "tomorrow" means Tuesday.

there's always tomorrow

Its only a day away. We need to start a pool, select a date, and put your money in.

Giddyup!

C'mon steve. Unleash the new MBP!

I had a friend tell me that one of the managers at apple store put hands on a BLACK ALUMINUM MACBOOK PRO.... now i dont know how real this is, and it's very very unusual for mac to give a new macbook pro and the color being black on that line.

But you never know. Hope this gives someone hope it will be out soon!!!

Heh... while it would be an interesting change cosmetically, I'd discard this as entirely unlikely... First, the aluminum (silver) casing is the signature styling of Apple's PRO market - MBP and Mac Pro included. Their iMac and Mac Mini make great use of aluminimum as well and as we've seen, even the BlackBook was eliminated from the line up. Secondly, how would that even be achieved? Painting the aluminium... integrating some type of dye into it...I don't think it's even possible...

OK, another Tuesday... If it's not tomorrow then I guess it's going to be a while. I'd say last chance tomorrow for MBP (and Mac Pro too) upgrades until weeks (or a month or two) after iPad release. I hope they don't wait until WWDC because it's three weeks later compared to last year.

nah, it could be next week as well. In time with the iPad release.
Otherwise, i would bet mid-April. Anything later would just be Apple throwing dirt in their customer's faces, unless they are making a revolutionary upgrade, which I doubt.

I don't believe there's any major technical difficulties there. Just look around you. I found five items in my room that are aluminum and black. Or look at any of the coloured iPods. To my knowledge it's usually done while anodizing/adding powdercoat. See this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodized_aluminum

I feel the same way about the dirt. But I'm hoping for some 'revolutionary' stuff like USB 3.0 and/or SATA-6. I'd wait a few extra weeks for that. What are the odds?

I dont think the odds are that great, but then again this is going to be my first mac. Even though i followed the company for 2 years on and off, I still don't know if they usually are at the fore front of hardware or lag a little. Their software is one of the biggest things that makes their computers so expensive and great. A PC wouldn't perform as well as a mac after a year of similar usage, simply because it runs windows and macs run OSX(thats if you dont use extra speed up programs for pcs and still pc might be slower.). Also apple is a big innovator, but installing a 3.0 usb isnt that big of an innovation, it already exists. Apple's multitouch technology on the other had is an innovation because its the first of its kind. Look at microsoft's win7 multitouch tech, its a failure.

MBP this week?

I am relatively new to this "threading thing," and I inadvertently shifted to a different place when I first posted this. So, I pasted this in here and hope this is helpful, humorous, and not repetitious.

I don't put a lot of credence in the anecdotal stories that fuel the rumor mill (though hearing them accumulating does make my heart slightly flutter). Adding to the frenzy, I spoke with a tech person at Apple about a different issue last week, but thought to ask about the MBP update possibilities. He first said, "I can't say anything until next week." Before I had a chance to get mildly excited, he then said that they don't usually know anything until after the units are released. He said at one release they were briefed on a new product and were told that leaking any information in advance would be cause for dismissal. When they came out of their meeting with their advanced information, they found out that the new product had just been officially released. I cannot honestly read anything substantive into my conversation with him, unless I fully activate my "blinded by wishful thinking" mindset, or if the MBP actually does get released this week. I have been approved by Apple for a MBP 15" replacement for my defective machine. I was trying to decide how much to add to better my base upgrade, when I got sucked into the "new MBP Update Vigils." Now I am hanging on to hopefully see the new MBPs come out before my AppleCare expires sometime after the first week of April.

At this point, any replacement machine will be a lot better than my current limping-along-unit, but if the release of the new version comes in time, that will make it that much sweeter. We'll have to just wait and see what happens. Keep the faith!

I was thinking, if the possible release of a Mac version of the computer system used by Tom Cruise in "Minority Report" was potentially coming out soon (just a rumor), maybe I would wait for that update instead. After all, how long could it be? The movie came out years ago! Virtual holographic touch screen (without a screen) sounds like fun, and a memory system that not only goes back in time but forward too. The only drawback would be printing to a carved wooden ball :apple:, which might be considered a backward step for such a hi-tech system. :)

As i said before, i ordered a 15' MBP on the 10th March, and it hasnt arrived yet. The only information i have is 'delivery on the 26th March'.
I bought it through store.Apple.com, and its not usual to take so long

I may not have learned very much from four years studying as a mechanical engineer, but I did learn this: There are two ways to color aluminum: the first is to anodize it (you used to see this on Canon consumer cameras - this way you can still see the brush of the metal) or powdercoat it (this obscures the metal - I believe this is what www.colorwarepc.com does).

I agree with the comment about the aluminum being a hallmark of their pro line, but it seems like an anodized coat could keep the metal feel, while allowing Apple to update their looks. However, I don't see them embargoing the plain aluminum completely, and keeping too different colors must be a pain. Perhaps they'll use it to distinguish high and low end MBP's, as they did with the MB's. Interesting because a lot of 'non-pros' are now buying the MBPs... Also keep in mind that the iPhones come in black and white, too. Though, the iPad wasn't anodized or even colored as such...

Also, stop gawking at those 3d images guys, they're totally fake and I'm pretty sure someone posted the image around here being like, "my friend made this for fun"

Eventhough black aluminum or next gen MacBook 3D are very exciting threads, I wouldn't count on any of that. Let alone the Minority Reports computers which are just out of the subject here - don't take it the wrong way.
We can fairly expect some design refresh and also more black on the MBP's (maybe something like a black apple like on the iMacs), we can count on upgraded specs that are just at the same level as medium-range comuters. We may can hope for something like Blu-ray or USB 3 but i personally doubt it.

What I am looking forward to seeing is iCore5/7, Optimus with reasonable Nvidia Chips, consistent RAM and "almost" affordable SSD. And at last, updates soon because Apple MBP are really starting to look very very lame on the market.

Btw I also helped 3 firends of mine to convert, two of them have been yelling at me for the past 4 months because I keep on saying "only buy if you need it, updates soon".

another day...

oh well, another day, no update... i guess its gonna be a lil longer till i get my new toy. starting to get monday insomnia >.<.

still gonna hold out though. the pain of having to use my old macbook is a lot less than that of finding updates a week after i buy my MBP. though i guess ill have to wait a lil while for them to cross the atlantic anyway :(

Lame? I think not. No other manufacturer provides the same build quality imho. Or the same type of user friendly innovations. Expensive, yes. Value for money, no. But, you pays for whats you gets...

Dave

I was indeed refering to the specs/price and the last refresh date. Only people who desperately need a computer right now, or who don't need high specs or who don't even know about the oldness of those MBP would actually buy these. And that's how Apple switched from caring about the little few who cares to the big crowd who doesn't.

As I said earlier in the thread, Apple isn't going to reduce prices. It has a responsibility to shareholders, etc to maximise its products. And, in a free market, if people are still prepared to pay top dollar, then so be it. I don't really personally agree with this motto, but then I'm not a lover of capitalism. That said, I live in a world where capitalism is the prevalent method of business. Apple will milk what it can from the current range of MBPs. If a few people won't buy, that's OK. Apple knows that it's popularity has never been so high. Devices like the iPod and iPhone are bringing people to the Mac platform in droves. And that's without OS X or the Apple computer hardware doing any 'selling'.

I personally dislike Apple as a company, but I admit that they make excellent products. Apple's current MBP range is a bit overpriced, granted. You can get similar performance elsewhere for less. Even when the current MBP range was new, it was overpriced compared to the Windows based laptop competition. That said, the current MBP aren't really expensive. Anyone who says that obviously has a very limited memory when it comes to laptop. I remember my first one - a Compaq Armada 1750 p.o.s - 12" screen, 4gb hard drive, Intel P2 333 mobile CPU, 256mb RAM. How much was this? AU $4200. It was large, ugly and heavy. And, only 10 years ago. Current machinery is a godsend imho.

Hi guys, just waiting like you, and, in the meantime, studying some astrology.

I wonder: can anyone here help me to find the exact birthdate of Apple Inc. It should be Januari 9 2007, when Apple Computer, Inc. became Apple Inc. At what time in the US does a 'new' company become valid? At 00:00, at opening time or some other predestined hour?

Thanks for bothering!

Next week go ahead and get a good nights rest on Monday because they would be foolish to release the MBP the same week as the iPad. They want the iPad release to be their big news and for all of the Apple rags/forums to be talking about the iPad not a newly updated MBP.

I am waiting too but a couple of weeks ago when the iPad street date was announced I knew there would be no MBP before the iPad.

Give me a "T" ... Give me a "U" ... Give me a "E" ... Give me a "S" ... Give me a "D" ... Give me a "A" ... Give me a "Y" ... And what do we get???

No new MBP!!! ;(

So again... Waiting for next Tuesday...
(Sorry, but I'm just so sick of waiting)

Hrhr, I share your feelings about that, but also I'm starting to enjoy that "tuesday"-game... I check macrumors.com every 60 minutes and there is always something entertaining, somewhere between hope, sarcasm and despair... :)
