Well, I'm also on the waiting list for the new MBPs. Since I saw a lot of suggestions of what should/shouldn't be included in them, I decided to post mine too ( similar to the ones pointed in this thread ).
So I'm not a pro in hardware/software topics, but I have some thoughts on this very subject. This is my personal opinion.
First off, attaching USB 3.0 to the notebooks will not do me any good ( + I'm sure most of the people don't need it atm ), for the simple reason that I don't have a single device in my household that's supported by it.
BluRay ? Sure, let's hope they include it. But for me, I don't even see the use of this since most of the BluRay stuff I have is downloaded from the internet.
Yes, new tech is good to include. My point about these two up there is that I'll live without them, I think there are much more important things that they have to get in the body of the machine.
I'm also waiting to see i3/i5/i7 CPUs in the models, as follows - i3/i5 for 13" model, i5 for the lowest end 15" model, and i7 for top 15" model and 17" models. ( just a guess ). I'm almost 100% sure it will be something like that. It's inevitable. Of course everything can be offered as an upgrade for a given price. Anyway, that's for the CPUs.
Now, for the RAM I'm also considering 4 gigs to be default for all the models, with the option to upgrade up to 12 gigs maybe ? Could be easily implemented.
The thing that I'm most concerned about is the GPU. I really hope that they will include some cutting edge graphic cards like nVidia GeForce GTX 280M SLI ( well this might be kind of impossible, for the sake of a good looking and thin macbook pro, or maybe as an upgradable option ( heat - wise too ) ? ) maybe the 260M ? I don't know. I really hope at least to be a GPU from this class, 'cause these beasts are really boosting overall performance.
Hmm, for the HDDs I'd say 500GB default for all models, with options to upgrade to 750GB/1TB and up to 2TB ( I don't want to know what the price will be for this upgrade though ).
SSDs - Of course prefering them over the HDDs for the speed mostly and the lightness. 128/256 gig offerings maybe ? Not sure about that. Let's hope. Everything over 256 gigs SSD will be ridiculous cash.
Design wise - I don't think this update will be focusing on new visuals ( or at least not radically ). Personally I love how the current MBPs look and feel, and I don't want them to be changed ( not in my power to stop them do it, but still an opinion ! ). Matte/Glass screens SHOULD be free of choice, and not payable as an upgrade. You either choose the one or the other, no charge for it ( hoping ).
Weight - I think they're good in the current pounds.
What I saw somewhere in the topic was a discussion about the eventual removal of optical drives, which got me thinking if this is a good idea or not. Now as I see it might be really good to do this, if they plan on putting something else in that spot, instead of the drive. ( more powerful parts maybe ). Also if they do that eventually, they can include an external optical drive ( for free ! ) like the one that comes with the HP Envy - a very nice solution. After all a lot of us still rely on CDs/DVDs, etc.
Battery Life - I say it's stable at the moment. I will be more than happy if they extend it though !
So yeah, these are my visions for the new MBPs. And no, NO 3D bullcrap ! Please Apple !
