MBP: before, during or after iPad?

With all the hype & speculation concerning the MBPs release being in conflict with the iPad release date, aren't they really targeting two different markets? Since it is now so close to the product's release date, Apple probably wouldn't want to muddy the waters with dual releases. But if someone needs a MBP, they are not going to fill the gap with an iPad, and if they want an iPad, they are probably not going to be in conflict over spending more money to get a MBP. I have a MBP and my iPhone. I was not in conflict over getting both because they are used differently. I will get an iPad for different reasons than what I need the new MBP for. Let them come out with the MBP to cover my most pressing needs and I will be glad to add the iPad afterwards. If I choose to wait for the 3G version, are they going to make me wait till May to release the MBP? In practical terms, I don't think the one should have anything to do with the other. If there are people trying to decide between an iPad or MBP, they don't need the newer version of MBP to decide that. I don't think most people are going to run out to buy an iPad just to fill a need for buying something new from Apple while waiting for the MBP. In my opinion, releasing both will only boost the sales of both without diminishing the other. If both items are in the Apple store, I think it will only enhance their credibility with the public as the technological-cutting-edge place to be. If however it just can't come out till after iPad, then releasing the MBPs the following week (4/6 or 4/10) would provide a great one-two punch!

With Passover fast approaching, I say to Apple, "Let M-B-P Go!" And release us from the bondage of rumor threads (at least until the next highly anticipated must-know-now stirrings). :)

Unfortunately I don't think it's as simple as that.
I'm sure there are MANY other things they need to consider before releasing the product.

-Is the product ready?
-Is there room for improvement? (Apple is very picky about this one)
-Is there enough resources available to market the product? (While they are busy with the iPad)
-How much stock of the old units is still available?
-Is capacity there to produce the large numbers they plan on selling? (Or is the capacity being taken by the iPad production?)

These are just SOME of the questions that need to be answered.
There are PLENTY more which might be specific apple based or have to do with internal design and operations.

If you play the next ad called turbo boost it shows an i5 graphic alongside the mac office icons and an iphoto graphic

Which isn't really news, as we've had the i5 in the iMac for a while now.

You are trying to read into everything too much. Give it a rest, let it come to you :)

The very last laptop. You can only see the screen via reflection. It's clearly OSX.

Hahaha... That is clearly not OSX. Look in the top right corner, there is clearly the Windows symbols for close window, maxmize and minimize... not OSX Red, Green and Yellow orbs... It's a stretch to think they'd "reveal" upcoming information like that.

The second ad does clearly point to OSX icons, but the iMac does use an i7 chip...

Then you are either looking at the wrong ad, or the wrong part of the ad, because I quite clearly see these, as well as the top OSX bar.

Seriously? Look closely at the top right corner; it clearly has an X. Even the bottom of the screen is slightly darker, probably a semi-transparent bar like the task bar on Windows...nothing across the top. The red and green orbs you seem to notice are what looks like the "Stop" and "Refresh" symbols in a browser... It could honestly be either, but i definitely see more Windows elements than OSX.

Hmmm. too busy to go back and look, but your snapshot looks like windows to me also.

Well, it looks like they're using a web browser. If it's Windows, the content doesn't look anything like opera, chrome, safari, firefox, IE - the stop and refresh buttons don't look anything like what I've seen on Windows. It doesn't look like a Mac either. It's probably a mockup page.

some more hot of the press trash can realdom

Just got this info: this is messy mumble jumble but still legible. run with it, gotta go think I'm being followed....... RS

Extremely Low stock levels on: All Macbook Pro Lines (no sh*t) Macbook Air stock levels good to go for 2 months, shift to refurb store, reseller discounts/rebates, updates live April10.
We will not see another MBA refresh EVER it's the end of this laptop :(

AppleTV - still promoting but contrary to what people may think stock levels are extremely low, promo necessary to push the ATV awareness - keep promoting, stock will deplete within 2 months, new form factor announced soon "Okay this wasn't just our hobby" announce new partners.
Appletv will return, 4.0 software good for an install on earlier models of ATV play angle we won't abandon early adopters.

iPod Classic - stock low, not the end of this classic by a long-shot - size remains screen enhance with size shift, smaller capacity but FLASH 128gb ! yup smaller ! has tricks up it's sleeve that not even an app can add to an iphone, the NANO sees price drop, capacity increase and another color addition (still no still camera functionality and no HD :(

the push this quarter is:
17" MBP we're not selling enough lets make it so we do (i7 only / "iJust tilt" ***NEW(patent)) iPad + 17"MBP = small screen / big screen - who wants an inbetween screen our 13+15 sell like hotcakes, convert the current 13,15 base to 17, newcomers always go 13/15, all good.

iPad (no brainer)
iPod Classic "half touch, half classic" semi-touch gestures ((same price, smaller capacity 128 FLASH DRIVE) vid/stillcam(classic only) FM

breaking breaking but i broke first

had to cut that short yeah I was being followed, if two suited shaded men in black dudes look dodgy and are following you in a Toyota Prius they are dodgy and are really following you in a Toyota Prius and they can't stop.

I've pulled over, they've pulled over ----- okay First person to do this mockup wins, here's the brief:

Ipod Classic (same size, larger screen, replace jogwheel with "square" trackpad not rec as screen is rec - trackpad Macbook pro style)

"a touch of classic"

sorry should be "the touch of classic" now someone get on that mock be the first it's the real deal coming 2 months before breaking.

remember jog wheel becomes square trackpad, screen becomes rectangular.

I'm on the move again,........ did I mention the silver keyboard first on the new MBP yeah I did.

No MBP

I can't see any way that there's an update until at least the iPad release and most likely a week or two after. Nothing sooner makes sense. It's been too long for a "small page 2" update so he'll want to profile it and as everyone has already piped in, he doesn't want anything to take away from the iPad.

...and let me add that I don't mean that it'll be out two weeks after the iPad release, I mean to say that's the earliest it'll be out.

If we ever find out, my wild guess is that it came down to a heat problem which in turn caused a battery life issue.

Just my opinion.

this is such BS...you need to quit while you're ahead

I think you grossly misunderestimate how many people there are out there sitting on money itching to buy something. Putting the iPad on the market first gives those spendthrifts something more impulsive to drop some cash on than an $x,000 device they've already set their mind on buying regardless of its release date. I have to give Apple their props here for that.

Give the iPad hubbub a week or four to die down, and we'll see new MBPs. Called it

is that you iknowstuff?

Do independant resellers have any idea when the refresh is coming? Are they in the same boat as us? Since they know it's due anytime soon-ish are they just trying to lower stock levels so they don't end up with a lot of old ones?

It's getting dull around here. Someone photoshop a nice mockup so we can all have a w**k over it or something... ;)

It's Steve Jobs. "not to worry" could mean "it'll be out in 6 months, stop whining"

Yeah, could easily be seen as a...

Emailing customer: "where's my new macbook, I'll have a tantrum, and might stop converting people to Apples?"

SJ: "Not to worry, I don't give f**k what you think, people are still buying the old ones and we're making more money from it. It'll come when it's ready, get over yourself/I'm not bothered!"
