makes sense that they upgrade the 15 and 17 and not the 13, the 13 inch is pretty good as it is, they just need to upgrade the hard drives to 250 and 320gb and the 15 and 17 inch should reach 1TB

I hope that graphic will improve VERY! Like 512mb was standard on 15 and 17 and opticial 1gb....yeah, I know I'm dreamin' :(

WHAT !?!? Are you kidding me ?!? Do you really consider increasing the hard disk capacity as an official "upgrade" ?

Core 2 Duo is an outdated technology !! Accept this fact already !!

Overall I think the most important upgrades would be the graphics and the cpu...they need to move on and away from the C2D and keep up with the pack.

As I've stated before, No Way does Apple realease the updated MBPs before the iPad is released!

Yes, I know that they are two different categories, but the MBPs would definitely steal a lot of the iPad's thunder...

If you're right, I might have to come and kill ya'!
I can't wait anymore.

And why do you think a silent MacBook Pro update would steal any of the "iPad thunder"? It's quite a boring update we're waiting for. A faster processor, a step up in HD sizes and maybe a faster (or slower) graphics card. That's all. No one - 'cept those of us waiting for the updated Book - cares / will notice.

i was checking most best buy stores in california and only found one store in the state that has 17 in stock...and some stores were out of stock for the high end 15in... pretty sure this can be said for most of the best buy chain

if the refresh doesnt happen this 16 dont see it happening till 2 weeks after the pad and thats a month of lost sales and i doubt apple wants that

I think you're staing a very good point, comrade :) The only people who are going to buy a MBP is the ones that cares and who know they're going to buy it despite of the iPad.

I dont think either that the iPad will loose customers because of a "minor" MBP update. Just look at the pre-order numbers. Haven't they passed over 50,000 now? And that in just days? I mean, it shows the interest for the iPad and people will not ask themself wether go get an iPad or the new Macbook Pro, they know they want that ****INGS iPad.

So in all, mr. Jobs have no reason to delay the launch of the new MBP. Because he know that the iPad will be a sucsess and it won't matter when the hell the MBP is released... Hmmm...that makes me wonder why he haven't released it before allready :S

I'm still very happy with my late 2008 MacBook but I am very ready for the next iMac revision...

And of course my iPads on order...

The bookstore at the University Campus I work on just received shipment of 300 MBP 13' 2.23 and are dropping the price $100.00 to $999.00 on top of the academic discount March 17th. I'm not sure if this is a precursor of a New MBP on the 16th, 26th or soon after but my fingers are crossed.

Best buy

I went to a best buy around Boston and asked for an MBP, kinda hoping they'd tell me it's out of stock for now.
The sales person told me they just got in a truckload of the current MBPs on Friday, and they have in stock whatever I want.
He told me in his experience with best buy inventories, he thinks it will take about two more months until the next refresh.

It has nothing to do with who buys what. It's all about marketing. And I assure you Mr. Jobs is considerably better at marketing than you (or anyone else on these boards).

I get the feeling this'll drag on for a very long time...

Even though I'm in the market for one, I don't mind this. The longer it stretches out, the higher the chances that we'll see a significant upgrade in some unforeseen dimension. I'd prefer waiting a bit and getting something awesome in the feature set than getting the incremental update we've all been expecting since the first of the year.

USB 3.0

Personally I don't see the point of buying the MBP when it's updated if it doesn't have USB 3. Why only go half way? Like Core2Duo, USB 2 is outdated and USB 3 has been out on the PC market for some time, and as a power user it'll mean a lot to me in the future. So I wouldn't buy into this new generation of CPUs if it doesn't have the new generation of portable storage controllers.

If Apple announce i7 with USB 3 next week I'll be the first in line. If not, I'll wait 6 months for the next refresh. Seems to make sense compared to being stuck with USB2 for years to come, just like C2D now.

It's not like there's a ton of USB 3 peripherals on the market yet. I could see Apple waiting till the next update on this one.

To call USB 2 "outdated" is kind of ridiculous. A few people have put it on a few computers and there are some peripherals out there. 98% of USB peripherals are still USB 2. Hardly outdated.

The sort of money you put down on a Mac you shouldn't expect anything less than USB 3.0 from here on out. Core 2 Duo in 2010 leaves a lot to be desired.

This is pretty academic, since you've always paid a premium for the Apple logo. Rarely does a Mac laptop have cutting edge hardware across the board (see the graphics cards in laptops for an example of something that seems always a generation or more behind). The sad reality is that even though you're right, they'll continue to sell those laptops at a prodigious rate. Most people don't care about technical specs as much as they do the overall user experience.

Indeed!

Instead of fretting over the wait, envision that they were already released and that they all have issues (I don't really believe that they will have these issues) such as bad screens, overheating, faulty graphics cards. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't get one of these. In a couple of months when they're released, think of them as being fixed mbps. Then, grab one and enjoy.

Please take this with a big grain of salt... I met an apple store employee when I went out to a bar on Friday night. I asked him, off the record, wink, wink, if he thought any new macs (pros, imacs, or mbps) would offer USB 3 soon. He said he highly doubted it and wouldn't be surprised if it was a year or two before USB 3 was offered in macs. He also said that apple store employee aren't usually told to a day or two before about new products coming in so he laughed and added "So what do I know?"

The wait is killing me and my MacBook. My poor machine is dying slowly and painfully. The palmrest has chipped again, the processor is burned out, the fans are loudly overturning to try and keep the processor from overheating only to fail when the processor gets to 87º and the computer shuts itself down to save itself from burning up. The battery "needs servicing". It's a mess. I have waited patiently for a new machine, and will wait patiently for a little while more, but I really hope they come soon.

I am waiting for the 13" Pro's. But if the 15" is enticing enough I might go for it instead. At this point I don't even care what updates we get. As long as it's something.

Also, who needs USB3 right now? I haven't even seen any peripherals that use it that I would buy. And I'm not ready to pay a premium for them right now either. I'm fine with USB2 for a while longer.

I have $1100 coming to me from the government. I want to give it to you, Apple. Just release them new machines!

It sounds like you are brutally hard on your MacBook ....

Also, that $1100 is actually your money that you let the government hold for you all year long and earn interest on it. If you were smart, you would adjust your withholding and keep that money in your pocket. =)
