See how everyone still has something to complain about when nothing happened yet. When new MBPs come out possibly with arrandale, everyone is gonna **** on jobs for not doing something with the 13'' MBP. There is a 13'' MB if that meets your needs. You think you need a pro but you don't. If you insist, then you're a damn amateur.

I'm glad you know what's best for everyone. Are you related to Steve Jobs by any chance?

It sounds like debt and more debt to be honest. It's strange to me.

Sadly I think you are correct, which is the reason the economy is in the state that it's in now. People so preoccupied with whether they "could" get something they didn't stop to think if they should or if they could really afford it. Whether we're talking about crappy housing deals, bad debt on credit cards, etc. -- just boils down to people biting off more than they can chew. People have lost the "self discipline" we all learned about, well most of us, learned about as children... you want something, looks like you need to work and save your money to get it. Now when people want something, they want it now and don't really care what they have to do to get it and then realize when it's too late and they might be out of work, leveraged, etc. and that maybe they should have been more disciplined with their financial situation.

So, as a fellow AAPL shareholder :), I would like to say that I fully support Apple doing whatever is necessary to make sure that not only are we making money today, that we haven't alienated the people we are going to be selling to tomorrow. Indoctrinate them all, now!

Take a look at the tobacco industry, who do you think they are really marketing to... children or adults? And yes, I own PM stock too...
Like you, I voted my AAPL shares in February, or whenever it was. (I think it was February, I deleted the e-mail after I voted my shares).

And it's not PM anymore. I'm an Altria shareholder too. If you want to walk the walk, you better talk the talk.

The only reason the 13" mbp was ever made because the aluminum macbook didn't work out because it had no fire wire port and people got very upset and disappointed. They made it to replace the 13" macbook, and decided to call it a macbook pro because they also added the sd card reader along the firewire 800 port. And in the past macbook pro models have been starting from 15" models. So this is it for the 13" macbook pro.

Most people don't want to buy this stuff.

Apple sells premium products to a clientele that has far more disposable income than Joe Average. That's one reason why AAPL is through the roof.

Since you don't seem to understand, Apple's ongoing business model is to dominate the premium price point of any category that they participate in. They own something like 90% of premium home computing category (i.e., computers over $1000).
My interest was the $100 off to entice a new Mac users that are going to be many thousands (tens/hundreds) in debt to buy more "expensive" computer hardware.

If you want to buy this stuff and you can't, you should buy AAPL and wait a while.

If you had invested $1200 into AAPL the last time the MacBook Pro was updated (June 2009), you would have nearly $2500, enough for a 17" MacBook Pro tomorrow.

I'm sure that AAPL isn't the best investment on the market, so don't follow my advice. Go do your own research and find where the best place for your money is, but be aware that many of us know that Mac ownership doesn't require winning that g-ddamn lottery.
Sound advice.

Regretfully I really believe I should have invested in Apple and AMD back in early 2009. I'm fresh out of college, with no debt thankfully but I was unemployed for some time, I didn't have the resources to make any significant investment at the time. (A few bonds here and there beyond my savings.) What hits even worse is that I bring this fact about AAPL and AMD stock up while conversing with my mother in late 2009 and she told me that she would have offered several thousand to invest.

Lesson learned, communication is key.

This is a forum. People are free to share their own opinions. Posts like this piss me off. We KNOW (most) people don't care what we are going to buy or not buy. But since this is a community, that's why we SHARE what we're thinking.

Many forum readers are entertained by those who are easily pissed off. :D

I'm holding out for a 13".

But seriously, I don't see Apple ever integrating Blu-ray. It would be nice, but I forecast the whole market moving towards cloud based operations and losing the optical drive.

My wish-list:
1) Blu-ray dies a painful death*
2) Movies/Music/etc. moves to cloud/flash only
3) Optical drives die a painful death*

*painful death does not necessarily indicate pain

It sounds like debt and more debt to be honest. It's strange to me.

Ok, I'll put it in numbers:

I bought my white MB C2D 2,2GHz for $1,299, used (and abused) if for 26 months now, still in one pice and doing a great job, and it's ready to be sell to a friend for $600.

That means that in case those prices are right, I'll just have to expend $1200 to upgrade to a brand new 15" MBP.

This is what "premium" means to me, reselling price and the oportunity to upgrade without the need of selling a kidney.

Now, just to be honest, can you do the same with a Lenovo?

There better be Core i5/i3 Dual Core Processors.. I mean Core 2 Duo is ages old =/, was introduced in 2006.. Its a bout time Apple upgraded to the new processors..

lol i3 i5? They better all be i7s at that price. Even though youcan get a decked out i7 quad laptop for less than 1k. Prob not the greatest bat life though. But 9cells are pretty good 4+ hours.

i3s are not much, and sometimes slower than core 2 duos.

Example system
"Core i5 2.2Ghz lenovo

14″ 1366×768 LED-backlit LCD display $659, or $699
4GB memory
320GB hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 310M 512MB video
802.11n Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 1000
Dual layer DVD burner
Webcam,
Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit."

Its not a mac but its light weight, thin, powerful, and can run flash with no problems lol. I dunno how apple makes any sales, osx is good, but linux is a fine sub, and really windows is better. How often to you hear a windows user complain that he has to dual boot osx to do everything he needs? I would say between slim to none.

Perceived value is a very awkward tool. I've been trying to sell my Macbook but I keep getting low balled.

Not that I need a replacement for it. I've been tinkering in a gaming notebook (once again and laugh all you want). I'm almost tempted to buy a M11x once it goes Arrandale and gets nVidia Optimus. Then again I can just wait for a refurbished MacBook Early 2010.

I have the time and the money. I need to start tinkering with investing to be honest now that I have a reasonable amount of savings in case of an emergency. (Maybe I can even invest the money I get from a Macbook sale.)

I can invest my money, that makes me rather fortunate. We're on MacRumors too.

developer discount

can you still buy the developer thing and get a discount on the upcoming mbp's

iMac ;-(

Let's not forget that the iMac line as of today has C2Ds for the cheaper ones, and i5s/i7s for the more expensive ones, so it's possible that Apple could do this for the MBP line with 13" models having so-called "lower-end" C2D chips and only the 15"/17" getting the heavy hitters.

honestly, at this point, i think if the 13" just got the top-of-the-line 25W C2D (the SP9600), I would be happy enough to bite the bullet. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the SP9600 would be roughly as fast as any of the i3s (NOT i5s)?

Heh... even after a few jack/cokes you make me laugh. PM is Philip Morris International, not Philip Morris USA.

But hey, I see that putting others down is your MO, so keep going bud. If it makes you feel good to ridicule others and treat everyone like dummies, then go for it. But, I'd come up with some new put-downs and not try and recycle old lines in a failed zinger.

Have a great evening, tell your mom good-night for me when she tucks you in.

Be careful, kiddo. 75% of mutual funds don't even beat the S&P 500.

Buy ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) rather than mutual funds. The Russell 2000 index beats the S&P 500 hands down, so stick a bunch of dollars in IWM and forget about it. You can shove a bunch of bucks into the S&P 500 by buying SPY.

If you want to gamble, feel free. Do your research, but it's a lot better than wasting your bucks at Atlantic City, Vegas, or some random Indian casino in your neck of the woods.

Based on your comments before, I assume you're under 25. Be aggressive. You have time to recover if the market tanks like it did over the past couple of years.

I'm going to go out and buy a C2D on the 12th just so I can create a thread asking if it was the right decision! :p

You aren't Apple's target market.

Your parents are.

As an AAPL shareholder, I don't want their margins eroded by catering to broke college kids. Sorry, I realize that's brutal truth, but that's the way it is.

When you're all growed up and have some bucks, buy some shares of AAPL. Or ask your parents now for a sh*tty netbook and three shares of AAPL.

Wow, you're kind of a big deal.

My sister was looking to buy a laptop and really wanted to get a Mac, but the prices stopped her, she was able to get an I5 processor in a PC Laptop for around less than half the price. It's getting tough to be pro macs with the increasing prices of the Computer side of the business.

I just bought my 13 Macbook Pro in February:(... would I be able to go to an Apple store and swap it and pay an extra fee of w/e? I bought it out of country but it was from an Apple reseller though.

Nah, February was months ago.

I'd love to trade in my 2005 Toyota RAV4 for a new one. Ain't gonna happen.
