It seems like many of the people wanting the 13" MacBook Pro don't really need the Pro at all. A plain, old MacBook would do just fine.

You're forgetting that most of us want laptops that will last us all four years (ideally, at least), and for me into grad school. Solution? Aluminum unibody.

If you mean MBP product line though, last time I saw numbers they sell more 15" baseline models than any other MBP.

100 percent positive Apple had a banner on their website stating "13 inch MacBook Pro. Our most popular MacBook ever." Sorry pal.

And now without the out running low on power thing...

I really hope they do end up bringing out a new MBP this month. I really hope this rumour is true. Please please make it tre :)
I already have my credit card ready to buy this MBP. It would be my first ever MBP and I am already ready to sell my mac mini too. Once I buy this :)

This really screws me up as a first time Mac buyer.
I planned on getting the MBP 13" in June. Possibly the 15". But not now since it's more expensive.

Bad move, Apple.

If Apple doesn't have a new MBP 13", perhaps the introduction of new 15" and 17" models will result in a price drop on the 13".

I've thought of that. Although I love having the latest and greatest, I don't mind have a Core 2 Duo, as long as they crank up the speeds in the 13"...

I agree with all who want the 13" one. Thats the one I want :) I am so tempted to buy the current 13" one. But I dont want like last years model. I want a 2010 one :)

Apple did plan on releasing them in March, that's why the Best Buy numbers were there. But the chip shortages and possibly other problems meant it was pushed back to April.

We'll see them this Tuesday.

Chip shortages? Did they affect other manufacturers, too?

Not doubting you. Just didn't hear that this prevented other people from releasing their updates.

It seems like many of the people wanting the 13" MacBook Pro don't really need the Pro at all. A plain, old MacBook would do just fine. In fact, if you look at the specs for the current 13" MBP and the MB you'll see they are very similar machines. The new version will be more powerful but probably not amazingly so.

If you really need power, you need the Pro but I've been using a MacBook in my work as a programmer and have found it to be acceptable. The only reason I'm upgrading to the new MBP (when they come out) is that my screen died and I am doing enough demanding stuff like simultaneously running Photoshop, Netbeans, Terminal, Mail, Safari, Firefox, Virtual Box (where I'm running Windows XP, Outlook, IE6 and Firefox), a webserver and database, Macvim, iChat, Preview and a bunch of smaller utilities, that I can justify the need. But I'm currently running all of that on a 2 year old MacBook with 2GB of RAM and it works. Not super responsive but that is more of a RAM issue and a "multiple years of cruft on the hard drive" issue than anything else. I really suspect that most users could easily get away with a MacBook with a bunch of RAM. Certainly if you find yourself thinking "Do I need the MacBook or the MacBook Pro?" you will probably be just fine with the MacBook.

In that case, most computer users (not professional, I'm talking about the average Joe) probably only "need" a netbook or very basic computer. It's not just about what people "need." I know for a fact that I don't need a pro, but I want one and I can afford it so what's the problem with getting one and getting the most for what I want to spend?

Is it weird that we're all wishing and hoping that Apple use i5/i7 in laptops that cost almost two thousand dollars, when we already find that technology in PC laptops that cost $600-$700? I don't feel this is something we should really be "hoping" for... this is something we should absolutely be expecting IMO. Don't get me wrong, I loved my iMac and I love my MBP... But if I'm going to be paying almost $2K for an apple laptop, it better have just as good technology as the HP at walmart for half the price.

Actually, no...they sell more iMacs and cheapo white Macbooks than anything else in their Mac product line. Good assumption though. If you mean MBP product line though, last time I saw numbers they sell more 15" baseline models than any other MBP.

How do you know this? I'm not trying to question the validity of your statement, I'm just curious to know where to find this information. I don't know anything about this stuff.

Nm, someone answered it. Good Data! :D

Difference this time round, the same models have appeared on more than one retailer's systems. We have Microcenter from the screen, however an employee at Comet reported them a few hours before this story broke. Also we have MR stating that they have confirmed with other sources, so hopefully if it's not the Comet source we have a minimum of 3 retailers where these models have popped up.

Stock issues:

On resellers it becoming virtually impossible to buy the 15 and 17" MBPs from the bigger companies.

The 15" MBP has completely disappeared from the websites for the 2 biggest UK retailers.

Shipping times for some of the 15" models have increased on some of the Apple online stores.

We also have the Taiwanese leak from last weekend, the Aussie Mac World source and a French article where resellers from their are claiming the 13th is the day.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me if they don't get released Tuesday, but with all is going on I expect it will be before the end of the month. We didn't have anywhere near as much noise as this 2 months back.

That's great to hear that this time around there is so much more supporting info! Thanks for the info.

But, I am still not holding my breath. ;)

whats the difference between 1700 and 1800 dollars? especially if the specs improve?

I was looking to get the base 13" or 15". I would spend about $1100 for the 13". According to the picture from MicroCenter's SKU's, the cheapest model is $1800. Big difference.

agreed. If the price bump (assuming it's valid) is based on some good technology bumps...what is another 100 bucks or so. Yes, some say they are all overpriced as it is...but really, they are going to sell.

I thought the general consensus earlier was that the 13" wasn't included in these SKUs.

Just go buy a 13" right now and stop worrying about it. Chances are there won't be a 13" refresh right away anyway. Might be later this year or not at all! Who knows!

1. I don't need it yet.
2. I'm waiting until the Back to School deal comes around.
3. Possibly won't buy it until very early June.
