see? it's thinking like that that makes me think, 'well, what if...' so, i ask you: what if they fooled us to the point to make us think they update it tomorrow and they don't? that's all i'm worried about :(

i just want my mbp, my first mac, and my first large expenditure!

no worries d00d! that's the beauty of apple! :p

Well I think I'm more delusional than any of you. I just bought my first Mac (MB) due to the iPod deal and now I'm holding out hope that since it's not shipping until the 26th, I'll get C2D.

You realize after reading all these threads, I'M more delusional than any of you waiting for the MBP C2D.

Oh, I think there are quite a few posters on here who are as delusional or more. :) A lot of people have recently bought MB's and MBP's that they haven't yet recieved through shipping, and most are hoping that they'll get upgraded C2D systems.

But hey! You got in on the iPod deal, and that's a great thing, not to mention the fact that you just bought yourself a damn good computer that'll last you for quite awhile. Go you! :D

This may put a damper here, but my MBP ordered last week arrived today (US). It's a week 37 build (September). If the C2D updates do arrive tomorrow, I'll be the first on the local Apple store doorstep.

What was the original shipping estimate?

Not the 26th I hope...

I was told a week. 15" 2.0, not a BTO. The factory in Shangahi (W8) seems to still be turning these out, or was week 37 (can't tell whether this was the first or second week of September, but it was about #150 production number from that week.

This is a bad sign indeed, if the production lines are still assembling the same cases it is not like we can expect to see any new case redesigns during Photokina... :(

I ordered the MacBook on Friday - part of the iPod education deal. I will be perfectly content if it ships with the Core Duo.

I do find it interesting that EVERYONE'S MacBook order is shipping on the 26th. Regardless when they ordered it (recently).

Perhaps, but I can't say whether the Sept indication at "Wat is dit serienummer?" is the first of the month or the tenth. If someone can say which week the 37th is (production week) it might indicate.

I will say this, I certainly hope--doubly so if unable to upgrade [if C2D comes along shortly]--that the MLB issues, RSS/RSD, etc, etc have been corrected in this edition.

How accurate have these "shipping dates" been in the past? Anybody know? Can they really be relied upon as accurate?

Imagine if they release Core 2's in the macbooks and not the pro machines tomorrow. The hysteria on these boards will be breathtaking...I'm looking forward to it.

Should have read "...about 1150 production number from that week." !snap!

Look At Apple Insider!!!!

Apple Insider states that the development of Macbooks and Macbook Pro C2D is complete, and they will be available anytime between NOW and END OF NOVEMBER! END OF NOVEMBER?!?!? That's way too long. The only other dissapointment from this article is that they claim it's a minor update, meaning just processor more likely. I was hoping for a nice new Graphics card :-/ Tomorrow may be very unlikely...

QUOTE FROM APPLE INSIDER:

Apple Computer plans to update both its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines of Intel notebook computers in time for the holiday shopping season, but may take some time before it does so, AppleInsider has learned.

People familiar with the matter say development of Core 2 Duo versions of all three models -- the 13-inch MacBook, 15-inch MacBook Pro and 17-inch MacBook Pro -- are now complete and all that's left is for Apple marketing to pull the trigger.

But those same people indicate that precise launch dates for the respective models remain fluid and Apple customers should expect the updates to arrive anytime between now and the time Thanksgiving rolls around in late November.

Similarly, it's unclear whether Apple will launch the new consumer MacBooks and professional MacBook Pro models simultaneously, or if it will space the releases to assure it maintains enough of Intel Corp.'s Core 2 Duo processors to properly facilitate each launch.

Similar specs expected

According to industry contacts, Intel began shipping the Cupertino, Calif.-based company mobile variants of its Core 2 Duo chips (Merom) during the last week of August. However, Apple opted to use those initial shipments in revamping its iMac all-in-one desktop systems earlier this month.

Upon their release, it's expected that the new MacBook and MacBook Pro lines will feature specifications very similar to existing offerings, mainly due to similarities in processor frequencies between Intel's Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processor lines. However, the Core 2 Duo line adds a 2.33GHz chip, which is expected to be available to buyers of higher-end MacBook Pro configurations. (A 2.33GHz Core Duo "Yonah" processor was recently released by Intel but not adopted by Apple.)

Notebooks: the latest music to Apple's ears

Notebook sales have been the fastest growing sector of Apple's computer business as of late, with the tandem of the MacBook and MacBook Pro combining for sales of nearly 800,000 units during its previous fiscal quarter -- a company best.

As would be expected, Apple's share of the US notebook market has also been on the rise, up from 6 percent in January to 12 percent in June (the last time such data was made available). And analysts on Wall Street remain bullish on the Mac maker's notebook prospects, with expectations that the company will continue to ride the mobile gravy train.

Last week, Credit Suisse analyst Robert Semple told clients that checks in Asia revealed MacBook shipments were tracking at approximately 200,000 units ahead of his initial 580,000 unit estimate for the company's September quarter. Despite these impressive figures, Apple is still struggling to to meet overall demand for the notebooks as a result of the recent the educational and back-to-school buying seasons.

Semple revised his estimates for the quarter to 775,000 MacBooks plus some 250,000 MacBook Pro systems, bringing his combined notebook estimate to over 1 million units.

When all's said and done, Apple will have sold nearly 3 million notebook systems during the 2006 fiscal year, and even more so during the calendar year. While the company isn't updating its notebooks at the absolute fastest pace possible, it's clear it plans to do so more frequently than in the past. And it has to, especially if it has ambitions of maintaining recent share gains.

mbp's tomorrow or next tuesday. macbook on or before thanksgiving. :D

plus, the source who has given appleinsider this information might not know much due to the fact that nothing else has been mentioned about additional features such as a case redesign, replacable hard drive, magnetic latch, DL drive in 15", etc., etc.

if the mbp's are ready, apple is going to release them very very very soon to stay competitive with the rest of the market. macbooks aren't as much of a priority as most people have been saying all along.

tomorrow could be the day...

Well.....I am using a faster than light FX60 AMD in a custom built super notebook, and was going to make the jump to Macbook Pro, but I will just stick with my present laptop until Apple decides to wake up and smell the coffee. BUT ... it could be that when they finally smell it, it will be over cooked and burned, and everyone else will have already bought PCs with the new C2D chips, and Apple will not win the converts because of taking so long.

Oh well .... :p

the argument of symmetry and "precedent" (once is hardly a precedent) with the iMac release is complete nonsense.

In the legal realm, one court decision can be considered a "precedent"

precedent - any act, decision, or case that serves as a guide or justification for subsequent situations.

Well, they did update the iMacs with C2D first, and I don't remember a lot of people predicting that (until the rumor first hit.) I think most people were expecting MBP's to get C2D before anyone else.

And yes, it will be interesting in the least, but I will be crying my little eyes out.:(

The next Tuesday? The Tuesday after? The Tuesday after that? The Tuesday after the next Tuesday after that? It's a horrible, HORRIBLE vicious cycle. If the Appleinsider article is true, I will not wait to Thanksgiving for chips that have been out since mid-september.

Exactly. Thank you for clarifying the use of the word. I was going to say the same, but you beat me to it. Right-O!

If you're going to school for programming type courses - you should see if you can get an ADC Student membership ($100 per year) over there.

At least in the US, I get roughly 20% off (the pre-configured MBP's go for $1,599 $1,999 and $2,239 respectively, as opposed to $1,999 $2,499 and $2,799).

Note that this is a one-time purchase... once you do it, you will never get this discount again (unless you upgrade your membership).

A couple of questions:

1.) What does everyone mean when they say buy via a campus network? Is this different from going to the Apple Store for Education and selecting your university from the list?

2.) Is there any way to see the hardware discounts ADC offers before purchasing a membership? I would seriously consider joining ADC for the discount if it made it worth it (there is a $200 discount as it is using the Apple Store for Education for my particular university) when the new MBPs come out. But it would need to be at least $100 more of a discount to be worth it. And I would need to know this before buying the ADC membership...

The other benefits would be nice, as well. I have never done any development in a Mac environment, so I wouldn't mind the introduction ADC may offer...

Just to throw a little more goop out there, my Macbook order, placed around the 8th and due to be shipped out today, has been delayed for shipping until the 27th. Unexpected shortages, they claimed.

Interesting,eh?

N......

I ordered mine Sep 11, with customization, and it's now sitting somewhere between China and Canada.

BUT I just went to log in to check order status and page won't load.

OMG OMG OMG OMG this is way bigger than just CD2 upgrades. My initial instinct is Jesus has returned to Earth. Brace for the rapture.
