for those who are curious about the time of this event, another thread says it happens at 16:30 local time (not sure if this is true or not - can anyone confirm this?). So to clarify:

Cologne, Germany = GMT +1
USA East Coast (New York - Eastern Daylight Time) = GMT -5
USA West Coast (San Francisco - Pacific Daylight Time) = GMT -8

so if this event is really happening at 16:30 in Cologne, then its at 10:30AM EDT and 7:30AM PDT.

Early on i thought the release was going to be a sure thing for Monday... but the more i think about it (and the closer it gets) the more skeptical i am. If Aperture 1.2 is the only thing released it would indeed be comical.

i think this is true for most people ONLY because none of the other rumor sites are reporting anything. that is OK. sometimes Apple does a very good job at keeping the information sealed pretty tightly. i'm still following macosxrumors like a dog in heat. they are usually SPOT ON and never post BS. if mbp's are not released tomorrow, oh well, macosxrumors was wrong for the second or third time...big deal. can't win everytime.

anyways, back on topic...who will be buying a new mbp tomorrow? :D

If they are updated to C2D tomorrow I'll be buying a 17" with the student discount.

If new MBP has x1800 or better, I will be buying.
If not, 24'' iMac.
If new MBP has x1600 still, but has new enclosure, and old MBP drops enough in price, I might bite on the old one.

Oh please, it is for the "cleanliness" of the design that we get these lousy overheating MBPs and no DL drives. More practicality please! Make a "clean" design and I will simply buy your cheaper model, Apple's call.

I'll be quite happy upgrading from my Dell, which *idles* at around 65 C (turn on a 3d app, and I can turn off my stove).

Also, correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't the reason why the 15's don't have the DL burner due to the DL drives being taller, and unable to fit without apple shrinking the touchpad (or moving it)?

I'd rather keep the same from factor, and feature that would get daily use (touchpad) - over a drive that I'd use maybe 5 times a year. But I guess that shows that the DL burner isn't a deal breaker for me anyway

I'll be buying one tomorrow/tuesday regardless of announcements

thanks for making another off topic post, iGary. you just motivated me to add you to my ignore list. greatness.

anyways, back on topic, again...i am going to buy a new mbp c2d as soon as they are released. luckily, i am in no rush to buy a laptop at the moment, i just want a c2d! unfortunately, i know some of you really do need a new laptop which sucks because the c2d's are right around the corner. but no matter what you buy, it will kick ass and you will be happy.

i think that if the MBP are not updated tomorrow i will buy a Mac Mini and a 23" ACD. Then wait for the MBP update and buy one then. This way i can continue to limp through my daily programming on the Mini until the MBP upgrade FINALLY does happen.

i think i'd wait... i hope they do upgrade it with C2D and (wishing) a black anodized aluminum... but if tommorow there's no announcements of an upgrade.. i'll suck it in & wait i guess.. :(

I am affraid this might be what is going to happen.

Then silent MBP C2D on Tues.?

It wouldn't make sense, however, to announce some software at a pre-release gathering before the main event where you are going to announce the same software. If that makes sense.

Something else than Aperture is going to be released tomorrow.

one thing i would like to point out is...

i have seen rumor sites in the past say something won't happen at such and such event. so far i have not see any of the rumor websites state mbp's will NOT be released tomorrow. the fact is i doubt they have any information whatsoever. all appleinsider said was new mbp's and mb's will be released from now until thanksgiving. that gives them plenty of space to save their asses from being wrong in the rumor world. i am still a bit surprised nothing has been posted all weekend. been pretty quiet. either apple is doing an extremely good job at keeping this all on the down-low or else we really won't be seeing new mbp's just yet.

again, macosxrumors is rarely ever wrong. :p

There should be one on my doorstep when I get home from work...if there's an announcement, it's headed back for a swap.

Considering a 17" as well but it'll just be too big to lug around.

btw, just as a reminder...macosxrumors was the first to report on the 24" imac. they said it would be a 23" imac and would be released on sept 12th. even though they were wrong on both the size and the date, so was appleinsider. but macosxrumors posted it first... ;)
