Downside Is They Need ALL 2.33GHz Meroms For MacBook Pros. Much lower yield of that speed in the production ramp up. Thus the delay. If the expo doesn't start until Tuesday, then yes Tuesday. But if the expo starts tomorrow, Monday, then they will get the go tomorrow morning. I've lost track of which day the Photokina expo opens in Germany. Remeber they didn't announce the 17" MBP at NAB until the morning the expo opened.
It opens Tuesday, September 26, but the Apple press event is on Monday, September 25, so I suspect that any new hardware will be announced on Monday.

i would think it would be wise for apple to announce the mbp's with c2d and then put the current mbp's on the sale page to get rid of them quicker. seems like it would help push both products; people who want to save money would buy the mbp cd and people who want the new mbp c2d would eagerly pre-order.
That makes sense and is consistent with what Apple has done in the past. After the first Intel systems went on sale, Apple discounted G4s to deplete inventory.

I think if Apple announces the MacBook Pro tomorrow, some models may have a 2-3 week wait. This might explain why the high-end models have higher build times; because the production has ceased on them, while older models can be liquidated after the new models are released.
I'm still not convinced that the shipping times quoted on the Apple site convey anything about a new model. Ideally, Apple would want to wind down their inventory ahead of a new model. But demand for certain systems may also have been overestimated, resulting in excess inventory and therefore short lead times on orders. If a new model is released, Apple will just discount the older systems until they've sold out.

when the iMacs received the silent update on the 5th of this month, i am 99% sure they had 24 hour shipping times the day before. i can't confirm this but again, i am 99% sure.

does that post even make sense? not trying to be mean or anything, but I don't get it...

makes sense to me... the higher end MBP's are being phased out because Apple doesn't want to lose a lot of money on these models when they introduce the new Merom MBP's.

I do hope that uesday brings up hope and joy in the form of new MBP's cause frankly I am tired of waiting as many of us are for the merom chip in a notebook.

if we do not see a revised MBP line I guess I will have no choice but to buy a 15" CD MBP since I can not wait any longer.

not much longer to go til we find out...
Has Apple even done that lately (in the U.S.)?? I'm betting any excess inventory will be sold as refurbished or kept in inventory for repairs / replacements. I could see discounts at non-Apple retail stores, though.

"Apple Special Event Presentation: September 25th 16:30~18:00h
Gürzenich Köln,
Martinstraße 29-37
50667 Koln
Cologne, Germany

Registration: 15:30h and reception to follow presentation."

there we go :)
So, a 90 minute press event, starting at 10:30 a.m. for those of you on Eastern Daylight Time.

I smell more that just an incremental upgrade of Aperture and iSight. Either another new concept in Photo editing software, a radical upgrade of Cinema Displays, or Merom MBPs, take your pick...

Weren't the cinema displays just updated not too long ago? Or was it just the price drops? I really really really hope the MBP upgrades come then... i'm not sure i could handle the letdown again.

not disagreeing, but its also possible that the 90 minutes mentioned in the invite could be 30 minutes of presentation followed by 1 hour of "play around with what we just announced" time in the next room.

just speculation. all i know is i am good and ready to buy a C2D lapzilla, and i am tired of speculating about it :(

SO ... how will we know about the upgrade. Seriously, folks. Somebody help me here.

It'll be annoying yet funny if Aperture 1.2 is the only thing released tomorrow.

What will be even funnier is come the following Tuesday we see refreshed Macbooks and no Macbook Pros...

Sigh, I'm only going to get home at around 5:30PM! The event starts at 10:30AM! The suspense is going to kill. Any chance the update will be up on the apple site by 12:15PM if the event is at 10:30AM?

I find this hard to belive.

What time will the event be in Australian time?

Photokina List of New Products

Photokina site has a database of new products to be on display at the Expo. Link

So far, Apple's products are conspicuously absent. What is it with this company? No leaks at all! Ugh!

7:30 - 9 AM Pacific Monday Morning

I would fully expect Apple to spend a good length of time demonstrating any newly announced features to Aperture, but in the post describing the Apple Event, it was mentioned that a reception was to follow the event. It isn't a stretch to imagine that any playing around with the product will be done by journalists during the reception and not the announcements. If so, that leaves a 1.5 hour announcement with only Aperture as a lock for release.

Other announcements would appear to be coming. Whether it be new iSights & ACDs, or new MBPs, we'll find out tomorrow!
