The main advantage of the Merom over the Yonah is that they are 64-bit processors. Right now the machines on the market are all using either a pure 32-bit OS (Most versions of Windows and some versions of Linux) or a 32-bit/64-bit Hybrid OS (Tiger and a few Linux distros). Currently the only pure 64-bit desktop OSes are bleading Edge Linux distros -- but Leopard and Vista will both run in pure 64-bit mode (as well as pure 32-bit for older machines) -- that's when the superiority of Merrom would become apparent.

How exactly will Leopard and Vista on a 64-bit Merom chip be superior to the 32-bit versions running on Yonah chips? The only thing I understand as the main difference is ability to access more memory, but what is there beyond that? I am wondering how relevant the difference even is going to be for notebooks over the next few years.

My anticipation is just for the fact that i'm going to order a MBP... not that i think the C2D is going to make that much of a difference. I just refuse to order before the eminent update happens.

It doesn't make that much of a difference... true. I'm waiting more for the hope that the next update to the MBP fixes some of the complaints we've heard about with heat & noise & etc.

You should be banned for life for heart-attack inducing posts like that! :D

australian store works fine. dont see how a low key (from an apple) point of view portables cpu upgrade ties in to a photo technology show anyway?
