australian store works fine. dont see how a low key (from an apple) point of view portables cpu upgrade ties in to a photo technology show anyway?

Professional photographers will often use MacBook Pros in the field, and a CPU upgrade would conceivably be of some interest, just since every second can be valuable to a professional.

The sound of Apple Events.... click, pause, click, pause, click, clickety-click, clickclickclickClickClickCLICKCLICK..... *argh*..... 'call 911, somebody, we've got another one'

Lump me in with those waiting for new MBPs. I don't think I've ever been so anxious to hear if I'll have the chance to give a company my money so willingly.

On another note, if there are no new MBPs today or tomorrow, what computer(s) are those who really need one now considering?

FEDEX Just delivered my 17" MBP.

It's sitting right there on my bed.

Come on... Upgrade announcement Damnit!!!! I don't want to open the box.

Because Apple took a whole frigging month longer than the needed too! All the other manufactures have been shipping Merom for that long, the only reason explaining why Apple is not doing that is there are bigger improvements than just swapping the processor.

Either that, or Apple just simply needs to build up lot more processor stock than other manufactures before they roll out Merom notebooks.... The iMacs are also eating up quite a bit of Apple's stock.

Also, I don't have any evidence to back up this theory, but I would think that Apple's product roll-out strategy needs a bigger build-up of stock versus manufacturers like Dell. While Dell can pretty much announce something then ship them as they are built, Apple has a huge retail base to try and have product as close to the announcement as possible, requiring a LOT more units ready.

Oh.... first post, by the way. I really can't believe how closely I've followed 50-something pages of rumour, speculation, theories, and zero facts :)

I'm a soon-to-be-switcher from Toronto, Canada.... if they announce a smaller form-factor MPB in the next two days, I'll be all over it. Otherwise, I'll be buying a Macbook on wednesday. I couldn't care less about C2D versus CD, and the most important thing to me is size and portability. The graphics chip and higher-quality display on a MPB would be a nice bonus, but aren't a deal-breaker for me.

Ugh, I don't care if the only upgrade is a slightly different font on the escape-key anymore. Just release the update, so I can get on with my life. Been waiting for this rev.B of the MBP since it first came out.

time?

Is everyone sure that the time is right? When they first announced the event I seen several places with 11:30am EST listed. Can someone confirm the time?

Also NAB, for example, was where this 1.33GHz Powerbook upgrade was announced (2 years ago last april).

There is a precident for these things.

I'm wondering the same, I won't buy the old even if that's obviously what Apple wants me to do..

If they aint out today i might have to hand Dell £1000 of my money instead and get a Core 2 Duo from them which is already in stock ready to go

If you need an Apple laptop though what can you do other than buy the current one?

I'd rather a CD mac than a C2D dell to be honest.

According to TUAW, who appear to have an ear on the event, they just discussed the Intel transition and how well it went, and are now talking Aperture, the "ultimate darkroom."

You'd like to think so, but you won't :)

I would rather wait and continue repeatedly resuscitating the Pbook than give any money to Dell ever again. I'll be waiting for Rev B, whenever it comes. O_O;;;

(Actually, I would also rather have my pinkies removed than ever operate another Windows machine. Bleh.)
