A few days ago on a whim I checked out Amazon's Top 100 list for computing products. Apple laptops held the top 5 positions. Checked it yesterday, they still held the top 5 positions, so yeah, they sell more laptops these days.

Nothing doing on apple.com and store.apple.com. Me thinks we'll be waiting some more...

How exactly will Leopard and Vista on a 64-bit Merom chip be superior to the 32-bit versions running on Yonah chips? The only thing I understand as the main difference is ability to access more memory, but what is there beyond that?

When running in 64-bit mode, the c2d chips provide access to 8 more registers, making them significantly more efficient.

So, the merom is 10-20% more efficient than the yonah in 32-bit mode, it's the same price, and it's pin-for-pin compatible, making it a drop-in replacement with no redesign necessary. And, in the future when we make the switch over to 64-bit mode with Leopard, we should see a significant performance improvement as the full capacities of the chip are exploited by the OS.

So it is definitely worth waiting for a c2d-based machine if you can.

cheers

the apple store should still go down soon so it can update apeture 1.1 to 1.5

Nah, they update minor store products all the time without bringing the store down. They only seem to have to take the store down if they are changing the laptops or desktops. I've never seen the store down for JUST a software update.

Didn't the store go down a bit back when all they released was a new version of Remote Desktop?

States something along the lines of 'Welcome to Rob etc, VP APM, steps up on the stage and welcomes the visitors to Photokina. He speaks only about Aperture, RAW features the OS 10.4 integration'

Sure hopes he's not the only speaker.

I don't think so. Anyway, the Aperture update is only a minor version update. ARD was a major version update. It's less likely the store would go down for just a minor version update in a single software product.

I LOVE babelfish, ...lol,,,

how about, "verdammte axt wo ist mein tragbarer personal rechner?!"?

Any germans apart from me here either?

RELAX guys. The guy in charge of aperture just got on stage...

The Aperture Product manager Joe Schorr now the program comes on the stage and demonstrates. The surface sees in such a way from like those the old version. The different possibilities are shown of storing data. To select it leaves itself whether Aperture is to sort the pictures automatically. One simplified an adding of meta data, over Presets can mehren pictures same meta data substantial be assigned.

That gives us 30 or so minutes of talking before anything new might happen.

Yep. I would imagine the same would hold true for anything other than books (MB/MBP) or macs (pro, mini, i). They add new cameras, printers, etc. all the time without downtime.

Is it Tuesday yet?:(

Minor reassurance

FWIW, none of the changes associated with this event have gone up on Apple's stores (i.e. Aperture is still listed at v1.1), so there's still time to update the whole thing with laptops. Apologies for the frazzled logic, but it made me a little more optimistic again!
