I'm disappointed like the rest of you...
The merom MBP will either be very soon (tomorrow?) or not until November.
My logic is that, in principle this is a drop-in replacement part that will improve the competitiveness of Apple's flagship laptop, so if it can be done quickly it will be. If Apple had announced the new C2D MBP today, or if they release it in the next few days (e.g. at the intel thing), that will position the MBP right along with current C2D machines from other OEMs, some of which haven't yet released C2D machines yet either (Lenovo). This scenario would be a simple chip replacement in the current MBP, and I'd buy one without hesitation.
However, as we're all well aware, if they don't update the MBP to merom very soon, it'll be anticlimactic to do as a simple chip upgrade. So if we don't see the C2D MBP within a week, I don't think we'll see it in the current design at all.
This would lead to my second scenario, which is a completely redesigned MBP with whatever the top of the line C2D CPUs are, to be released in time for the holiday season, sometime early in November.
I'm lucky that I can live with my current 1.67 GHz G4 Albook until then if I have to, so the second scenario isn't unbearable to me. That being said, I've had the cash in hand to buy a new laptop since July, and I've been waiting for a C2D-based machine since then, so this is getting tedious.
Cheers
