whats the time frame for the next CPU that is coming out? March? If Apple waits long enough it'll be a few months before the next chip is out. maybe C2D macbook pro's will become the new G5 PBs

 NOT again!

However, that is a valid point to some extent. However, I personally don't see it as being that long of a wait. Not with how they've been pushing their "love" of Intel since they said they were making the switch. It would probably be much more reasonable to expect updates for both. Now that all the G series processor "problems" are history and they have the "solid" backing of chips from Intel, a more frequent update cycle is far from being out of the question.

They just couldn't overcome the power and heat issues in time, and by the time it was coming around it was too late.

From the inside of what, your imagination? I hate when people claim to be insiders and quote stuff like this. YOU KNOW NOTHING.

Well that was not friendly.I am using a false name(of course) and all I am telling you is the truth. If you can't take it,sorry for that, but of course go ahead buy a c2d chip get your tools and create your own merom macbook. So you can tell everyone you have one.

The reason I've been visiting Macrumors for many years now is the number of people, like yourself, that have inside information into Apple's plans! Just by reading posts like these, I can vicariously have my fingers on Apple's corporate pulse! Oh, how I wish I were one of the seemingly endless parade of people who are pivy to Apple's most secret plans.

Hi, I'm new in the forum. Today's event has been a big delusion for all of us but I want to report you what happened to a user of an italian forum.
He called the Italian Apple Store today, asking if it was better waiting or buying a MBP now. The operator told him to wait because MBP are being updated by the end of this week.

That's all.

Wicked. Cold hard facts.

Where's that dude who's convinced they'll be released tomorrow. He'll be well chuffed now.

Too bad Apple Store reps have no clue when products are being updated...while I believe this is the case, I wouldn't consider this a cold hard fact.

Good to know, but the problem is that the apple store rep probably just has had access to the same rumors that we have been and is advising you accordingly.

I am remaining optimistic, but we shouldn't allow ourselves to be easily dillusioned.

I've been dillusioned far before I ever came here and please leave me be, I'm rather enjoying myself. :D

You're totally right. But I hope it will happen. I need a laptop and I can wait till the first week of October. I'd like the updated one, like everybody here...

precedents... one might think we're talking about supreme court rulings here

the bottom line is that if Apple wants to stay competitive it can not longer merely "update" the tech specs of its computers at certain pre-set events. They have to update them along with the rest of the market. Not all PC makers have updated to C2D yet. I'd hope for tomorrow, but October is most likely.

I think it had a link to the U.S. ipod edcuation discounts, plus we really want them to ship, and, well, 26th is a nice day all round :)

Is there a precedent for saying Tuesday? Or do you guys just like saying it?

In most cases in the past, Apple tends to announce new things on Tuesday's as part of their overall "magical" strategy. Not that they always do it on a Tuesday, but it's been more the case than not to make Tuesday's headlines and garner more attention.

Either way, from your previous post, you're still getting a spectacular machine.

An official explanation: Guide

My explanation: It gives us hope. It works well in taking away the burn of constant disappointment... oh, sweet anticipation!

Yes, when is the next likely time for these to be updated? Silent update in 1-3 weeks (makes me sick thinking about waiting more...) or an upcoming event?
Tomorrow Morning When Photokina Opens. Is nobody reading any of our posts?

What's up with the defeatest attitude here? Nothing has happened yet to say it isn't happening tomorrow.

I agree, nearly bought a MB for that very reason. The MBP keyboard almost looks cheap by comparison (imo).

Then perhaps you should buy the MB instead, if the MBP comes out with the same kind of kiddish keyboard I might as well just buy another Thinkpad instead. Boy do the chinese know what real pros need, we need to erm, type fast!

I can't understand what's wrong with the current MBP keyboard: I think it's perfect. The only regret could be just a stylish one, maybe its design is old (but I don't agree). I think it's better than the MB one, and it's backlit.

Ditto. It's the closest thing to a Thinkpad I've ever used, and for people who swear by their keyboards, the Thinkpad's pretty darned good. The Macbook's keyboard almost looks unprofessional, and stupid, and it really feels clunky.

I don't know when it happened, but sometime within the past hour the Macbooks (not the Pros!) have increased to a 5-7 day lead time for a pre-configured system. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for the Macbook crowd? Let's hope the MBP gets the same treatment.

Edit: Sorry, made a mistake. That was supposed to read 2-4 day lead time.
