Then perhaps you should buy the MB instead, if the MBP comes out with the same kind of kiddish keyboard I might as well just buy another Thinkpad instead.

Yeah, I've been saying how awesome it is that we have the choice, since the MB keyboard is definitely love-it-or-hate-it, and and boy do I HATE it! So people who really like the keyboard can live with the MB, and people who despise it can upgrade to the MBP and still feel comfortable typing. If they "upgrade" the MBP's keyboard to the new kind, I'm just gonna buy a refurbished Powerbook out of supreme disgust.

I don't know when it happened, but sometime within the past hour the Macbooks (not the Pros!) have increased to a 5-7 day lead time for a pre-configured system. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for the Macbook crowd? Let's hope the MBP gets the same treatment.

Eh, I don't know. My local Apple store told me the other day that Macbook supplies are just extremely low right now, and it seems to be the case everywhere. But I'll keep my fingers crossed - I'd like to see a C2D macbook too, after all. :D

Never thought I'd live to see the day when someone would call the PB (MBP) keyboard 'kiddish'. Wow.

Now that this day is upon on, maybe I should off myself?

He was talking about the MB, not the MBP.

Nothing Fell Hard At All

Well, ladies and gents, looks like today fell through pretty hard. Shall we start the new "next tuesday" rumors yet, or should we hold a moment of silence first?
Nothing fell hard at all. Today is Monday and Photokina doesn't start until tomorrow.

I have been very impressed with the MB's keyboard. My friend in my dorm has a white one and the keyboard is very solid and tactile. And as the keys are farther spaced apart its is extremely easy to type on. I relished the experience.

We know one thing for sure - the entire MacBook lineup will be updated before holiday season. So now we just have to figure out when. It's like roulette with the dates between Oct. 1 and Dec. 25.

Do you have ANY IDEA what time this might happen at?

Right now, I have lost ALL hope, if it's tomorrow, then I will have less then no hope.

dunno about you guys but I'm def done speculating (oh its gonna be..well guess not, well theres..., oh hey theres always...)

just gonna wait and see when it happens. its gettin to be the boy who cried wolf syndrome....

First, I'd like to apologize for being so gruff. Although my buddy Multimedia and I mix like oil and water, I shouldn't have atacked him the way I did, and I'm sorry. Probably best if we just ignore each other. :)

Secondly, while I do understand that folks waiting for a MBP or MB with the new processors are anxious, and I can't half blame them, it's just really getting tiring reading this stuff. And yeah, I know I don't have to read it, but the place is just littered with MBP and MB thread titles.

Remember when we had no idea what the roadmap was? I almost like it better. Now, with Intel, we know exactly when chips are released and people have been literally wetting their pants until it goes into an Apple product.

1. There are hardly an 64-bit apps that most people, even professionals use. The likelyhood of 64-bit apps being widespread during the life of your notebook is s-l-i-m, slim. I can however understand someone waiting for one if they have a specific 64-bit app to use.

2. We're not talking a massive speed bump here, and I'd say hardly noticeable for most people, even professionals. Maybe 20% at most. What's thi big deal? I mean Ars Technica or Gizmodo aren't jumping up[ and down over these chips as they are in PCs.

3. While I have no idea, I really don't see a major redesign coming. I'm sure there are some nice things and minor feature tweaks coming, but I just don't feel like we'll see these "extreme" form factor changes until January - just makes more sense. I dould be wrong, but oh well.

4. If you need a computer today to make a living, do schoolwork or, something critical, get it. I didn't do a bunch of rumour site wandering and running around when I bougt my last two machines - I needed them to do work. If you're not in that camp, fine, but good gracious, I've never seen this board so lathered up over a small chip enhancement.

The end. :D

What time this may happen ??? How about what month given how many rumors have come and gone on this one!!!

Germany is 6 - 9 hours ahead of us - so 0800 PDT will be 1700 in Germany. Their day is wrapping up as ours is just begining - would make for some interesting timing for the European market OR the US market.

I just want a Rev. B BlackBook so I'm safe from all the issues that have plagued Rev. A.

Don't forget Leopard :p

And Windows Vista.

ESPECIALLY Vista in fact, because there will come a time when *new fangled hardware* only comes with 64 bit Vista drivers. We all know how smallminded PC hardware manufacturers can be. Like now, hardware can come out with not only no Linux drivers, but no MacOS drivers, or even no Windows 9x/ME/2000 drivers as well!

Considering people actually pay upwards of 25% premium for a 5% increase in CPU speed this is hardly a valid point...

While I need one, but ironically I managed to get by, and as far as I am concerned Apple has missed the boat. Now I can afford to wait until MWSF if that's what it takes

If they just do what they normally do when they release new product, the apple store usually goes down in the mornings around 6am to 8am. I think if anything gets updated tomorrow, we'll see the "store down" splash, and after that, who knows what apple will present us with.

Wonderful voice of reason, iGary. Thanks. It's so easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget the great things we have in front of us (i.e., the current crop of Macs). Fact is, there will always (hopefully) be another update/upgrade just over the horizon, so: The time to drink is when you're thirsty. "Why wait any longer for the world to begin?"

All day at school I was anxiously awaiting coming home to a newly announced MBP, but I was somewhat stunned that all Apple announced was an update to Aperture. I haven't been able to read the 20 + new pages of posts that erupted while I was at school, but what is the general consensus about today's event?

For me, I am angry and disappointed that Apple didn't release any new hardware. Anybody else in the same position? I am quite surprised that Apple, being the attention hogs they are, didn't release something larger than a software update. (Well, I guess it does actually make sense that they would desire an event for this).

But anyway, fill me in guys, what are your thoughts? Are there any rumors or speculation that we will see updates tomorrow or in the near future? I am getting worried now...I don't know why they haven't been released, and am starting to drastically lose hope here...why aren't our MBP's here?

Gary,
I, for one, think it is a big deal since my portable is 6yrs old. I want as new as my money will buy, so that if another 6 years go by (Lord I hope not) I'll know that I did the best with my hard earned cash that I could. Who's knows what will support 32bit in 6 years from now? All I know is that my current machine is coming to an end when I can't even run the latest Toast on it as it doesn't support it, along with numerous other progs. I want and need every advancement that my money will buy me.

Edit in:
I think that Apple is simply soaking the crowd and taking all the cash that they can get on old[er] technology. It's all about money, when they see their sales dip they'll do something about it and release something new. Now is obviously not the time for the MBP Merom. It could also be that they're exausting their old stock, but who knows.

let's stay all calm and just wait for the german morning to come. as i am concerned i believe in the story andy2000 (or so?) told and so i am not really convinced that mbps are going to be announced tomorrow. but of course i'd be very happy if it happened.

and in germany the shipping dates for the mbps are all 24 hours so nothing points in the update-direction.

ooh, one more thing: is the systems exhibition in munich known to you guys? i read a rumor that apple would probably go to the systems this year after some years of absence ... or would it be their premiere? what do i know?
the point is: systems is a very large exhibition for, yepp, computers ... and there it goes again ;)

I hear you - totally, but it sounds like a few more months won't kill you. If it would, you'd hop out and get a well-equipped MBP today. Waiting sucks, believe me, I know - I'm the most imaptient person I know. ;)

I'd love to see a major form factor change and some kick ass processors, FWIW.

everyone, the ship times on the apple site mean nothing, IMO. i am 99% sure the iMacs had a 24 hour ship time the night before they were updated. again, the ship times mean nothing.

I don't know the german time, so what time do you guys think this will happen (if it does) in eastern time? Right now it's 6:13PM here. I wake up at 6:00AM for school, any chance it would be updated by then?
