Wonderful voice of reason, iGary. Thanks. It's so easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget the great things we have in front of us (i.e., the current crop of Macs). Fact is, there will always (hopefully) be another update/upgrade just over the horizon, so: The time to drink is when you're thirsty. "Why wait any longer for the world to begin?"

What's so great about the current crop of Macs? That's fanboist thinking!

Let's start with the MBP.

1) ancient 3 year old design
2) Functionality over form... NOT.
-overheating.. why? Cos Ives didn't want to mar the clean look with a vent!
-ever thought of doing your own HD upgrade? Woah
-ding and scratch magnet
-see point above, hope you don't fly lest the TSA officers touch it
-probably nice in John Lennon's "white room", but 100% purely impractical in the real world.
3) For a bit over half the price, what can you get with PC laptops? C2D, discrete graphics (ok not great, but the MBP's is not GREAT either!), bigger hard drive, better case! What are you getting from a MBP that makes it stand out from the crowd? As in "stand out 100% price premium" from the crowd? Apart from the white Apple logo at the back of it, nothing.

Macbook?
-RSS, enough said.

Funny how Apple is so innovative yet they can't churn out problem-free hardware. This is not software we talking, it is hardware. Perhaps they are so innovative that even their hardware designs are... bugged? Oh hang on, that doesn't make sense, it is more like someone on their design teams fails math and can't even do simple calculations to ensure components get to disscipate heat properly.

the point is: systems is a very large exhibition for, yepp, computers ... and there it goes again ;)

Jeez, now any obscure expo is subject for speculation now? Just tell yourself it ain't coming till some marketoid gives the thumbs up, and leave it at that.

Systems... who cares? In Munich? Square that earlier who cares.

What's next?

Zomg! Compex in Singapore! Computerex in Jakarta! Apple releasing MBPs there! Please. Perhaps they should learn to do it the way others do it, and just release when it is done, without any need for funfare. This late in the game any media focus is going to be negative, if anything. "Apple releases new C2D Macbook Pros", if I am a journalist I will be sure to put in a comparison with a Dell C2D out long ago and how even that "new snazzy waste of column space" is so overpriced for what it offers.

I don't know the german time, so what time do you guys think this will happen (if it does) in eastern time? Right now it's 6:13PM here. I wake up at 6:00AM for school, any chance it would be updated by then?

Sorry, I meant to say the apple site store is usually down for me on Tuesdays anywhere from 6am to 8am, Pacific time.

Hi, I'm new in the forum. Today's event has been a big delusion for all of us but I want to report you what happened to a user of an italian forum.
He called the Italian Apple Store today, asking if it was better waiting or buying a MBP now. The operator told him to wait because MBP are being updated by the end of this week.

That's all.

Can you link us to this forum?

i liked the post where a guy meant that even on a medical conference where apple's gonna announce the new iheart everybody would say: "whoah, good sign for the new mbp"

oh, and i know it might hit you but the usa is not the world - just wanted to say that even if i know what you mean

i haven't posted for a few hours because i'm devestated... please please please come soon MBP... for the love of Apple!

Well, ladies and gents, looks like today fell through pretty hard. Shall we start the new "next tuesday" rumors yet, or should we hold a moment of silence first?

How can you start "Next Tuesday" when "This Tuesday" hasn't passed yet? :D

Like the original rumor said, "at Photokina". The fact Apple held a "special" deal today prior to that seemed to stir quite a hope of speculation.

What if it isn't Photokina, and the Intel even instead? You never know. Could be that has been the plan all along, and it was taken to mean Photokina by the date since that was the "big event" on that date.

Multimedia's been pretty sound throughout this, reminding of this fact pretty much. Even so, there isn't a guarantee of anything tomorrow either.

Gosh I hope Apple has "Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro" online and on the front page when I wake up tomorrow at 6:00AM EST.

Nonsense! America is the world! In fact in John Titor's writings when he predicted the world that we know it will end by 2030, he really meant "the world (America) as we know it!"

What's so special about 3rd Oct?

It's a Tuesday and a week before the Educause In Dallas

Apple usually likes to have their new stuff out in time for these higher education conventions.Which Apple is attending with a 40'X30' booth.Next to a storage room by the elevator as usual..hehe.

That and a wild guess/gut instinct :D

Nothing fell hard at all. Today is Monday and Photokina doesn't start until tomorrow.

Thanks for reminding all of us that. I live in Australia, which like, today's Tuesday :p, when I opened up Apple and MacRumors and couldn't see any MBP upgrade, I am kinda devastated. But I liven up reading your post, realising that today is Monday there. :D

Three cheers!!

Just a food for thought, but did anyone realised how Apple didn't update their front page even after they released the new Aperture? They're normally really quick with this, let's hope perhaps this means, "Why update the page for 1 day when it's going to be updated again with something even bigger?"

Fingers crossed, tomorrow the front page will be the new MB/MBP :)

Perhaps they knew that Aperture 1.5 really ins't a big enough deal to post on the front page.

Good point. Didn't Apple say that the update would be available by the end of the week. That could mean that they are just wainting to update it at a later time with more than just Aperture. If you combine that with the rumor from the Italian guy saying they would be updated by the end of the week, you could read into it that the new MBPs are coming this week.

But, it could also mean nothing. The Italian guy could be wrong and there could be any number of reasons to update the site later. I hope for tomorrow, but I let this site get my hopes up and have Apple crush them too many times. I still can't beleive how much of an attention whore Apple is. They put on a a fairly sizable media conference for Aperture 1.5? At this point, Apple is behind the competition selling an out dated, more expensive product. The new Merom MBPs better be good!

Tomorrow Morning When Photokina Opens. Is nobody reading any of our posts?

What's up with the defeatest attitude here? Nothing has happened yet to say it isn't happening tomorrow.

You have always been the voice of reason and intelligence here. thank you for that.
I choose to believe you about tomorrow morning. It's more fun being an optimist anyway. I'm buying a MBP for my daughter tomorrow morning.

week 37 (and 1,050th of that week's production--no telling just how many per week), September.

Does anyone want to explain why they are still building MacBook Pros at the factory?

was this a BTO or stock configuration?

i understand if it was BTO, but september for a stock configuration?
if they were announcing Core2Duo MBPs wouldnt they have to build them first?

This has been a lot of fun everyone, but duty calls - if they don't release the new MBPs tomorrow, I'm getting the current one.

Time is money and I'm running out of time.
