We Have All Been Waiting For Tomorrow Not Today • Why Did You Quit Today?

Would you say the same thing for the MB as well? Actually, I'm buying for my sons ... one is a movie editor who really wants (and needs) the MBP. The other will be fine with the MB. I have a new MacBook myself and love it, but I'm not using it for professional reasons. I was ready to order for each one of my sons, but after reading this forum for the past week, I absolutely can't decide. Of course, my boys and I are VERY impetuous. We want it NOW, but we're trying to be wise here.
Well the editor definitely needs C2D MacBook if not MBPro because the editing software is one that will early on be tweaked for 64-bit parts. Tomorrow is not that far away. Why did anyone here not wait until tomorrow? I am shocked some ordered CD MBPs today knowing we're all waiting for tomorrow NOT today.

Out of curiousity, if the MBP's were released tomorrow, what do you think the price points would be set at?

Value per dollar went up considerably with the refreshed iMacs.
Prices will remain the same.

I am shocked as well, but I think quite a few people were holding out as long as they could, and just couldnt do it anymore. I will be waiting a little longer to see what happens- at least by next week windows machines with C2D will actually be shipping.

I am a Newbie to this forum but I am not a newbie to macs. I have a quick question. I am a graphic / interactive designer. I do some light video editing but nothing very extensive. I mostly use Adobe suite along with Dreamwear/flash. How much would it benifit me to have a C2D versus what they have out now. I have one of the first 1Ghz PB 17" but my hdd is on it's way out, so I am on a unknown timeline.
the hdd could last for a while or it could die tonight lol I don't know if the 64bit would really benefit me.

For the long run you want the C2D Merom MBP. Could be useful for many many years - perhaps even the rest of your life.

:eek:

Either you have a very short life... or you have a very short life :D

Well, being that I'm a 60-year-old grandmother, he's probably right! Sucks to be me!!!

Sorry to be a jackass and no offense intended, but I don't think "infallible" is the word you wanted to use here. Unless you believe we're all perfect and incapable of error.

I've been obsessively following these threads for awhile now, and I have to say that I threw in the towel and ordered a new MBP today (15'' high end stock model). It wasn't my decision to make; my computer (a trusty G4 800 MHz, and my first Mac) died 3 hours ago ::moment of silence:: and given my need for a computer for school, I really couldn't hang around waiting for the new models.

wow, this is the first sane post i've seen on this thread. good decision - enjoy it.

i can't believe the nerve of some of these people on here telling others that they were silly to order anytime in the past week and that they should not open their laptop when it gets to them and even send it back. this is ridiculous - none of you have any 'inside track' - you're just working off a 'gut feeling' - and, if new mbp's get released tomorrow, it will be because you got *lucky*, not because you had insight...

to anyone on the fence - order your computer or just be patient - just don't listen to any of these people on here as to 'when' it will be released. it will be released when apple releases it, not any sooner and not any later. and no one on here knows when that will be...

4 in a row?

That was my ironic point. Sorry you didn't think I meant it that way.

I'm only 3.5 months behind you. And it's great to be me!

You can replace the HD in your Mac for $200. Why buy a CD MBP because your HD fails?

Hey! We're not barking orders here Glitch. These are suggestions and recommendations that one can take under advisement. Nothing cut and dry insistent. Friendly advice. And we are not precdicting when the C2Ds will ship either. We hope it will be tomorrow. None of us know nor claim to know when it will happen.

"Silly "is not a word I've seen anyone use - your word. Short Sighted is more like it. Unwise. But certainly it depends of the individual's unique circumstances as to wiether or not buying before the C2Ds ship is the right thing to do.

We're not getting paid like a consultant here. One SHOULD hire a consultant to go over your unique situation to determine exactly what one should do. But most Mac buyers are TOO CHEAP to do so.

been reading this forum for almost a year.
The macbook pro update to merom is of great importance to me.
if there are no merom macbookpros within the next 3 weeks i will get me an
alienware beast. Seems to me a very good option if apple waits to long.
The software I want to run on the macbook pro is also available for XP.....
I will never buy a macbookpro core duo. Especially not now knowing there will be an update in the next quarter for sure.

Turning 60 was the WORST. BUT I'm still buying for these kids. When I bought my new MacBook I didn't care. I offered to buy new Mac laptops for my boys and then I began reading this forum. The editor son doesn't really use his old Mac for editing ... does it in an editing suite, but would like something to work on when he's not there, and he definitely wants an MBP. I just don't want to buy either of them something that will be out of date when they take it out of the box. After reading the posts here, I think we should wait for the C2D. Just makes sense.

Apple doesn't abandon their legacy customers for many years.

Not quite sure how true this really is! According to the specifications, at least, Aperture will not run on my not yet 3.5 year old 17" PowerBook G4. (Requires 1.25 Ghz G4 and the PB has only a 1.0 Ghz). I find it hard to believe that the speed difference between the 1.0 and the 1.25 Ghz processor is the controling factor so there must be some microcode differences as well. And, yes, it does run Tiger perfectly well

Why buy a MacBook Pro just because your HD fails in your old PowerBook?

Because it provides a "reason" to get a new toy? :D
You still have to fix it to sell it.

You can change the boot code so it will run on that slower Mac.

I still can't get over the fact that the event only announced one lousy Aperture update, and I really meant lousy. I looked at the Lightroom demo and it was like "Wow" in comparison, without the bloat of aperture either! Apparently it runs off slower systems as well.

The digital photography workflow wars are over, Adobe won, ok release our MBPs now please :D

Just wondering...what's the longest macrumors thread? Are we gonna go down in history or something? Maybe MR's will award us all with a complimentary C2D Macbook Pro for our long lived dedication to this thread? ;)

Does anyone want to explain why they are still building MacBook Pros at the factory?

was this a BTO or stock configuration?

i understand if it was BTO, but september for a stock configuration?
if they were announcing Core2Duo MBPs wouldnt they have to build them first?
It was bto.

Because I am graduating in Dec. and I would like to get the student discount and I don't think I will have any money with student loans and everything.

Just Edit The Prefs File To Look For 1GHz Instead of 1.25GHz As Minimum To Launch

Deputy-Dawg said:
How? Please point me to a tech note or some such.
Just edit the prefs file to 1GHz and it will work. You will have to Google around to figure out the details. There are clues at Macintouch.com that came up when I Googled "Aperture Less Than 1.25GHz".

Caveat: It will be running DOG SLOW big time.

Just change that line that says 1250 to 1000 and you're good to go.

You can extract the requirements directly from the Aperture Checker application. Here's the property list:
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>MinCPUSpeedG4PowerBook</key>
<integer>1250</integer>
<key>MinCPUSpeedG5PowerMac</key>
<integer>1800</integer>
<key>MinOSXVersionString</key>
<string>10.4.3</string>
<key>MinRAM</key>
<integer>1073741824</integer>
<key>UnsupportedGraphicsCards</key>
<array>
<string>NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra OpenGL Engine</string>
<string>NVIDIA NV34MAP OpenGL Engine</string>
</array>
</dict>
</plist>

While MR may make some coin with the affililates links I really don't think they are that rich :D

Tomorrow

Who knows anything about the schedule for tomorrow?

Is there any chance that C2D MBP's will be released tomorrow?
