Well you know it's gonna be C2D way before December man.
I dunno... I still remember people waiting for the C2D MBP's to come out at WWDC. lol. Now look how far we've gotten without any upgrades. I wouldn't take anything for granted now.

BTW... I felt pretty shameful looking at Laptops with my computer nerd buddies at COMP USA. I'm the only Mac fan. All their laptops had C2D... :( Usually I am the one who gets to brag. lol.

I think the people who are waiting for Merom are resigning themselves to a long haul of waiting. Reading through this thread, it has changed from excitement, to outrage, to resignation :p

here's a radical concept...

unless you are going to squeeze every last clock cycle out of a system, get what fits your needs rather than your wants!

you really dont need something with a cray's processor to surf rumor sites and play around in a couple of apps. as an example, until it was recently stolen, i had a 1ghz 17" pb g4 and it still had heaps of useful life left in it - i just hope it dies now on the little git who stole it.

need it, buy it now...
want it, keep on dreaming...

For all of you that are saying that 'we should quit waiting on the c2d mbps and just go buy the current mbps because they are great and the 64-bit technology probably isn't necessary for most':

No. I won't go buy it. Its not a very good deal. Its way overpriced in fact. I am holding out only because I am hoping for more significant upgrades than just the processor. I am hoping for several things. If the processor gets dropped in and that's it than I'm done waiting and I'm off to PC land. I want a Mac because its a well built machine with great components and a wonderful OS. But if I can get the same great components in a okay built machine and even an inferior OS for $1000 LESS than why should I go apple?

I'm betting on the new release being a great value and I sure hope I'm right because I'd much rather get a mac than a pc.

At least with the current apple products, you aren't waste boatloads of CPU cycles running norton AV and firewall products. Just think, you are already on the same productivity level as all those PC users with their shiny C2Ds

Yes there's a very good chance tomorrow will be the day.
I don't think anyone can testify either way. The iMac was released on a Wednesday. Tuesdays no longer seem to be the norm with new product releases. Now, I am still hoping just as you are that tomorrow will be the day. However, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

PLEASE don't scream at me, kids. I have a question: is it safe to use those silicone thingy's that cover the keyboard on my MacBook? It keeps it clean, but is it safe in terms of the heat? (please don't yell at me.)

I'm with you on this... using my educational discount at Dell, i can get an E1505 laptop with a 2.00 GHz C2D, 2GB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM, 120 GB HD, ATI x1400 256MB, Draft-N Wireless and bluetooth, XP Pro, Office, 3-year warranty and accidental damage protection for ~$1700... i would be paying about $1000 more for my MBP

Well they atleast have to change the main screen on the site soon don't they? Are they going to put an Aperture thing up there...I doubt it...maybe one of the smaller boxes. Apple usually doesn't leave the main page up for long. 14 days or so? It was updated last time on the 12th right? Two weeks without an update to the page...I don't knowww sounds like some toasty (literally) MBP's are going to be coming out of the oven!!

Wednesday because Monday was a national holiday and Apple PR needs the day before the announcement to get all their ducks in a row.

Yeah.... you're right! Thats why I'm going mac.....

I just want to make sure I get the most for my money though. It seems kinda silly that on a 2500 notebook (base price) there isn't even a DL DVD drive.... (not that thats what I'm making my decision on, but ya gotta admit....)

LOL multimedia!!!!

The more of your posts that I read, the more I get the feeling that you work for apple as their pusherman or something....!:D !!..... Keeping us from giving up hope on the company that pays you so well!!!!

Just kidding.. but you're killng me here. I don't need to be expecting that tomorrow will be the day. How bout some healthy pessimism huh?

I think the reason theyre not updating is because it would be put up on the front page of their website, instead of the new iPods. They want as many people as possible to know about the iPods, which everyone buys, instead of some shiny new laptops that only 5% of the people will buy.

The iMac's release date was merely the Wednesday after a public holiday, so I wouldn't read too much into it ;)

Interesting theory, however I doubt that is the case. The iPod really doesn't get much advertising from the apple site, it is from other types of media, and word of mouth.

Apple may is most likely still in the late R&D stages, and or started silently building the new systems and are queueing up for a large rollout of C2D.

You gotta be kidding me, I bought a $550 pc laptop and apparently its got a DVD+R DL on it... I don't know if thats a DL burner as I have not even played a DVD on it never mind anything else. I bought it to match my needs for work (pc based office), after some rat stole my powerbook.

Isn't the 17" the laptop which gives best bang for the buck?

Awwwww, NO!!! My Pbook G4 just had a freak-out and did a funky white mottled screen with a brown stripe down the middle and nothing else. Had to force restart - in the middle of a huge paper.

Not sure how much longer I can hold out on buying the new machine. Drat.

Now thats gotta be a canny good excuse, "Sorry Professor, I couldn't do my paper/assignement/homework because I was waiting on Apple bringing out the new Merom CPU, can I have an extension? I hear on macrumors.com they are coming out next Tuesday"
