Silent update in mid-to-late November.

Another thing is that I doubt Apple will release substantial notebook revisions at the same time as Leopard, so these next updates will be it. That means 802.11n!
I kind of believe the same thing as you. Considering that it would be hard to believe that they would release a merom macbook pro near november and then a santa rosa macbook pro when leopard is released. Take this into consideration: The delay of the merom macbook pro release. How long do you think it would take for a santa rosa release after its actually announced. Intel still isn't sure about releasing it by even april. I think this will be the last revision until next fall. Also where are you getting information about 802.11n for the next macbook pro?

Case Re-Design

Does anyone think a case re-design will accompany the Merom chip in the Mac Book Pro or are we just getting new internals?

I hope that they are upgradeable to 4gb of ram when apple decides to release them because i will be getting a lot of extra money from some idiots insurance for my minor injuries from getting into a wreck with him. He totaled my car. What he did was turn right in front of me with no blinker while i was going 60 mph..could've killed me if i didn't swerve. I'm really looking forward to 4gb of ram in the new macbook pros

I do because it needs an easy access HD Bay and better ventilation which by definition means a new case design. I am hoping for black anodized aluminum as well.

I agree before Thanksgiving November 23 worst case. But I think it will probably be in October.I am 90% sure. I even think the mini will go C2D at the same current speeds by Thanksgiving so Apple can claim a full 64-bit line for Christmas and Steve can brag about it and give us some amazing sales figures January 9th when he will also unveil the 8-Core $2999 Dual Clovertown Mac Pro as well as the new 4- Core $1999 Kentsfield Mid-Tower Mac line - my guess-hope-timate.
for some reason i don't believe that mac will release a mid-tower line. I think apple provides the imac as a mid-tower choice(no tower at all). I see no reason for them to sell a midtower when they have the imac and the mac-mini for consumers. The only thing i object to in the imac is that you can't upgrade to 2.33ghz on the 17in. model or the nvidia gpu. I think there's a possibility for a kentsfield imac in the future. Unless you fill me in on why because i really haven't been keeping up with the clovertown/kentsfield news and the possibility of a midtower mac. And i also haven't heard the possibility of a kentsfield imac it's just what i think will happen.

Just a guess given the upcoming iTV that will likely include "n" and Apple's reputation as an early mover on wireless standards. Add to that the news from earlier this week that, in Vista, the wireless card in the latest iMac appears to be 802.11n, not g.

Thanks for caring.

I'd live with the Yonah if I bought it today and the Meroms came out tomorrow. But if they came with a brand new beautiful design.... I would certainly kick myself... hard.

Kentsfield iMac Needs A Redesigned iMac To Deal With More Heat

Heat. Apple's gonna have to open up the edges of the iMac to let in and out a lot more air that will allow the additional heat from Kentsfields to escape. I hope you're right that they will do so.

But I'm also thinking that Kentsfield needs a home without a screen that is in that price point above the mini and below the Mac Pro. I'm not the only one here who thinks this. But we are all skeptical Apple will plug that hole and mostly just hoping so.

so, what? we're not going to be seeing C2D MBPs anytime soon? say... in the next two weeks? i'm getting so frustrated, using a progressively (or should i say regressively?) failing computer due to all the "stress" (read: normal use) i'm putting on it, with no hope on the horizon. i'm a freaking student for goodness sake! have some pity!

I wager we'll see the entire MacBook lineup updated at the same time...

Do you think the iMac will eventually be updated with a 4-core processor if the Mac Pro goes 8-core?

wikipedia quote:
"Intel has stated that the first version of Merom is drop-in compatible with the current Core Duo platform, requiring at most a BIOS update. It has the same thermal envelope and the same 667 MT/s bus rate.[6]"

Apple... wtf

I hope you don't rebuy the same brand of computer as the one you are currently using

Sweet. I leave for India on the 13th of November. There goes my argument to mgmt to get Macs for us instead of PC's. Yay. Now I have to live with a Dell again for 2 years.

Well then be prepared for a big surprise because they will not stack up to $2500 at all. 2.33GHz Clovertowns are the same price as the 3GHz Woodies @$851 each or the same $1702 Apple pays less than for a pair of Woodies today. I'm plugging in a price cut January 1 assumption that could drop the price from $3,300 to the magic $2,999. But even worst case they will sell for no more than today's 3GHz 4-cores, $3,300 unless Apple decides to gouge it's customer base which I highly doubt.

I'm willing to pay $4,000 if I have to, but I doubt I will.

Ah, if you're going with 2.33's, yeah. I was thinking of the 2.66's. (tho I think I confused the price of the Xeon with the similar Core 2 Duo Extreme).

Yeah, yeah, I know, never assume... :)

Then again, I think I'd expect it to be more than the current machines. We shall see soon enough!

it's over 5 years old, has about a collective 2.5G of free space left and probably senses my eagerness to get rid of it ASAP. plus, it's a desktop, so it's not like i can carry that around from class to class.

Not unless there's a major redesign.

The iMac uses Merom, the mobile chip, rather than Conroe, the desktop chip. The only logical reason for this is that Conroe would be too hot, since Conroe is both cheaper and faster than Merom.

Given the 4-Core Conroe (or Xeon, tho I doubt they'd go with that for other reasons) is hotter than the dual core version and it's pretty unlikely...

why is it called black friday? Is it an african holiday?
I don't mean to sound ignorant:confused:

It's the day businesses go "into the black" (vs into the red).
