Then, for my needs, expresscard/34 is more than optimal :)

I do agree that reading macrumors leads to insanity :)

Found an offer here, in Italy, on a 15"4 MBP with 1G RAM, 100G HD, X1600 256MB for as low as 1990 euros VAT included. Considering 89 euros for a 3yrs warranty extension (which includes accidental damage, send and return...).

Pretty hard to wait!

Erm by the way Applecare does not include cover from accidental damage.

Way Too Much Enphasis Is Being Made About The C2D • New Design Is My Priority

You know iv been thinking.....

after reading this forum for a while now and waiting for a new MBP, i have come across many many a post from fellow 'waiters' giving up and buying MBPs now.

All i can say is this has got to be a good thing because apple are wanting to get rid of any unsold Yonah MBPs and these people are doing everyone a favour.

I just feel sorry for those who would benefit from C2D MBPs who have now succombed to purchasing Yonah.

Apple - the master of the waiting game!
While I admit to wanting the C2D inside as much as the next bloke, I really must insist on only being interested in this computer when it gets a design change that includes an easy access HD Bay and a more efficient cooling system. Otherwise I will turn to the 2GHz C2D MacBook instead which already has said Bay as well as the 4MB L2 shared cache.

While I really want the 17" MBP with all the bells and whistles, I won't support it in the current 3.67 year design. Too old. I don't agree with those here who say it's a new design since January. I dont' see it that way at all. The HD has been inaccessable for 3.67 years now.

That nice big 4MB L2 cache is, of course, a primary reason the FSB speedbump will not make a huge difference... :)

It is not Apple Care, it's warranty from the store!
They take care of everything happens (including fire!) from day 1 to 36 months after. They cover damages for up to 2000 euros for only 89 euros!
That's a bargain! :)

But what if the store goes bust?

I totally agree with what your saying.

I just dont want to buy a MBP and then have it updated in form factor fairly soon after. Its a lot of money to be spent only to have it made obsolete.

pleeeeeeaaaase i neeeeeed my MBP now lol

seriously its so frustrating not having a computer about (just moved to uni). if someone had told me i was going to have to wait this long back in early july when i saved up the money then i would just have bought one of the yonahs there and then. now im just waiting on principle, my course starts fully next week...

maybe i should just get an iMac

Exactly i would have felt as if i had a MBP long enough to not be saddened by an update if i had bought back in june/july.

Now it just seems stupid to buy one so late in the day.

My final year studying animation starts monday, so i know i wont be doing much substantial work for a few weeks, but i just cannot afford to wait til November without a decent portable for film editing testing etc.

My poor ibook just cant hack the workload now....:(

Why not get a Mac Mini? Only 20% the price of a MBP!

Buy A Cheap MacBook On The SAVE Page for $949 If You Need Something Now

If push comes to shove and it still doesn't show by the time you must pull the trigger, just go to the SAVE page and buy a 1.83GHz MacBook for $949. Add one 1GB stick for only + $119 from here, total 1.25GB, and it will get you through the rest of the time 'til MBP shows up and you can then sell it for no less than $800, maybe even what you paid for it.

Keep all the packing materials and documentation and reciept in the original box so when you go to sell it, it will be as good as new and still qualifiy for Applecare your buyer can pay for. Don't even open any of the included literature packages. Use as little of what comes with it as you must. Keep the rest virgin including the box. That will maximize your resale value.

Desktops are much better bang for the buck anyway. Unless you really need notebook portability. Probably last longer too (not as exposed to the big, bad world).

Hi Carmine,

I'm in Italy too (Roma). Heard anything interesting about the coming Roma Est Apple store? Feb 07 it looks like. I had to send my PowerMac to Milano to update the GFX card, which was a bit of a pain. I was wondering what the support options are in your area. Any good?

All this being true... but in my experience there is not a great market where i am from for second hand macs....

...also too much hassle for what its worth.

Thanks for your input tho, your opinions are always valued highly here.

Yeah plus i would need to buy a monitor, keyboard, etc. and then lug all that about from home to uni and back. Things seem to go 'walkies' in colleges and universities you know.

Also why would i want a macmini when the macbook would suffice in those stakes!!!! I need portablility as well as processing power for film editing!

I agree. High time to update the enclosure. Something that bothers me with Macbook though is lack of dedicated gfx. I'm not a heavy gfx user in terms of raw power, but max resolution for external display is very important to me. Any idea what the external max resolution is with Macbook?

Hello paisà :)

I'm nearby Naples, and I'm a total Mac-newbie.
For what I can see, there are a lot of people turning to FNAC which has pretty good customer care.
If I'm not wrong, there should be a FNAC store in Rome too. You could check
on www.fnac.it.

Bye

It's all but Dual Link up to 1920 x 1200 24" which I think is excellent. The MacBook IG is no slouch. Only extreeme 3D game fanatics have a problem with it. The whole Final Cut Studio runs great on it including Motion 2.

Sorry. Didn't read ahead. It's 3 frikin' 39 in the morning here.

Market Is Much Brighter For Pre-Owned MacIntels That Also Run Windows XP & Vista

Yes but that was before they also run Windows XP & Vista. I think you may find the market is changing for Pre-Owned MacIntels for the better. You can even make your Mac have a higher resale value by installing Parallels Desktop & XP or Vista on it before you sell it - or at least Bootcamp.

And they are not second-hand. They are Pre-Owned. What hassle? Are you lazy?

Hey don't know if this has been pointed out yet but the uk store has now gone down to 2 days shipping for 15" MBP. It was at 5, went to 4 then 3 and now 2. I guess these times were just a supply problem. Doesn't seem like they are slowing down on selling. Where have our merom MBPs gone!?

I'm a wannabe countryman at this point - I'm English, but living in wonderful Italy for a year & a half so far. I'm lucky enough to be able to take my work (J2EE & RoR web apps) wherever I wanted to live. Thanks for the advice! I'll check them out :)

Argh, sorry, you're right. I'd read it before, but mis-remembered that I'd only seen panel resolution specs  That's pretty good actually! Thanks Reflex & Multimedia

You're welcome!

RoR really is a great thing, isn't it? :)
I also am fond of ruby (and Rails), which I try to use whenever I can.
