Battery life is not important for me but good job with the inaccurate assumption. It just wasn't worth the asking price and if you read my post history I had serious graphical issues. Screen tearing and jittering. That shouldn't happen on a brand-new machine.

You prominently mentioned battery life, which I found funny because it was one of the main reasons for me to sell my SP4.

Don't interpret too much into a little sarcastic/funny comment.

The keyboard, touch bar and USBC only ports are not an issue but an improvement for most. No one cares about soldered components. They just want their products to work as advertised. Sorry.

I'm used to the soldered on 16GB ram ceiling, but I would liked to have had the ability to buy a cheaper aftermarket SSD, sadly that is no longer a possibility.

SP4 is a total POS. We had 2 at work and they were not usable. Constant freezing up. Pure junk.
Love the people on here just trashing Apple. I have the 13 MBP TB and it works flawless. Battery life has not been an issue. There are so many factors to battery life and everyone knows that.
Obviously everyone has different experiences. Many love the SP4. The new MBP is having issues for many users. Of course people will be upset about it. But they're just called "whiners" by some.

Do you have a source for that claim?

I'm forced to use Keynote 09 due to incompatibilities with the new version. Apparently this + VGA projector = sub four hour battery every time. Due to permanent discrete graphics use.

Thought I wouldn't have to buy £160 power supply to do a days work. Grumpy now.

A subset of users who purchased a new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar claim to be experiencing shorter than expected battery life.

2016_macbook_pro_lineup.jpg

In particular, some users claim to be getting as little as 3 to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge, or between 30% and 60% of the up to 10 hours advertised.

MacRumors forum member SRTM said:MacRumors forum member Aioriya said:Reddit user Azr-79 yesterday claimed his new base model 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar received only 3 hours and 45 minutes of battery life on a single charge, despite what he described as "normal usage" in the form of web browsing, watching YouTube videos, and software development.

mbp-battery-life-chart.jpg

MacRumors forum member Scott claimed he experienced a 5 percentage point drop in battery life, from 10% to 5%, in just 12 minutes. Google Chrome, a known battery hog, was listed as the only app drawing significant power. The discussion topic he posted in and others are littered with similar claims of sizeable percentage drops in mere minutes.

1-2-800x296.jpg

Other claims on Reddit include anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours to 6 hours -- sometimes more, and sometimes less.

Conversely, some users report battery life exactly in line with Apple's advertised figures. Reddit user Andrew J., for example, said he was working on non-intensive tasks on his new MacBook Pro for 90 straight minutes, and still had 92% battery life with an estimated 10 hours and 35 minutes of usage remaining.Estimates unsurprisingly vary widely based on screen brightness, background processes, and other factors, so user reports are only anecdotal evidence and your mileage may vary. It is also important to note battery life could be initially reduced until Spotlight finishes indexing your new MacBook Pro.

Battery life complaints are nothing new following the launch of a new Apple product. However, some users speculate battery life could be impacted by the new MacBook Pro switching from more efficient integrated Intel graphics to the power-hungrier dedicated AMD Radeon Pro GPU for unnecessary tasks.

Once again, however, there are always claims to suggest otherwise. Reddit user Lebron Hubbard claims he received 5 hours and 48 minutes of battery life on his high-end built-to-order 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar when forcing only the dedicated AMD Radeon Pro 460 graphics to run using gfxCardStatus:Apple's built-in Activity Monitor and third-party app coconutBattery are useful tools for tracking system processes and detailed battery information.

Apple officially says the new MacBook Pro is rated for up to 10 hours of battery life. Specifically, its tech specs page says all new 13-inch and 15-inch models are capable of up to 10 hours of wireless web browsing, up to 10 hours of iTunes movie playback, and up to 30 days of standby time on a single charge.

TechCrunch placed battery life at 9 hours and 35 minutes for the 13-inch model. Mashable said 10 hours is a fair estimate overall. The Wall Street Journal got 9.5 hours on the 13-inch model. Engadget gauged between 9 and 10 hours of video playback on the 15-inch model. Nilay Patel got 5.5 hours on the 13" in real-world use.

Apple explains how it performs its battery tests on its website:Apple's website also provides tips for maximizing battery life on the MacBook Pro, including updating to the latest version of macOS, optimizing Energy Saver settings in System Preferences, dimming the screen's brightness to the lowest comfortable level, and turning off Wi-Fi while not connected to a network.

Additional battery optimization advice provided by users includes performing a fresh install of macOS Sierra and resetting the SMC.

Stop using chrome. Fixed it for the users and Apple.

Have a great day.

Next thing we'll have for future mbp issue is powergate...it wouldn't even turn on because the battery size is bigger and wouldn't fit in the mbp.

My 13" / 512GB / 8GB with Touch Bar lasted 5 hours, 50 minutes under Apple's "Wireless Web" test conditions. My line of work has me on the go most of the time and while a full charge gets me through a day of on + off usage, the battery life is rather underwhelming compared to Apple's claims of 10 hours. Screen, speakers and keyboard however are the best I have ever used on a laptop.

It doesn't seem wrong, because the estimate right after a restart won't be accurate. For one thing, there's a whole lot of activity that happens with startup itself (loading the OS), and for a while after startup (loading all your extensions and processes, syncing cloud drives, indexing, and so forth).

I would wait 10-15 minutes while doing whatever you do on the computer before getting a more accurate estimate (and it's still just an estimate that will change depending on what you're doing).
You clearly don't understand how an Operating System or software works.

The issue with super efficient but powerful cpu and dgpus is that if you even barely crank them and even chrome can do that. You will rape and pillage the battery super quick. I wish apple would have taken moderate use of cpu into account when thinking about the size of the battery. I think most if not all Pros would have been happy with a larger Watt-hour battery at the expense of being the same size as the older models. If we could have gotten a solid 10 hours with heavy cpu use, that would have really made it a pro device!

My brand new 15" custom touch bar laptop got barely 3 and 1/2 hours after just 2 weeks of owning it. It finally stopped taking a charge at all and completely died. I couldn't even run it when plugged in. I took it back to the Apple store and exchanged it for a new one. I hope I have better luck this time.

My 2016 13" MBP 8/256 was showing 6:30 remaining on 99% charge, but I just reset the pram, and now it's showing 9:20. So, I would give that a try.

For those mentioning chrome and other ways of sucking the juice out of what they think is a normal piece of kit. You don't understand what is going on. I'm a dev, I know what's running on my machine. So no chrome, no migration assistant, photos agent done syncing, spotlight done indexing, reset smc and here's what I get while doing NOTHING. So please stop telling us how we should use our machines...

Man, so glad I bough my used MBP 2015 in July. AppleCare for more 2 years. Hopefully by then, Apple will get their act together and have a reliable and good MBP. 32GB RAM at least.
The sad part the new MBP is slower than the 2013/2015 MBPs. Apple is out their mind.

the new intel processors only save power when idle. as soon as you use them for actual computing, power consumption hasn't materially changed since 2012. apple cut the battery sizes in all the macbook pros based on intels bs power savings at idle, and end result is pro laptops that die super quickly when doing anything even remotely compute intensive.

I'd like to point out reinstalling Sierra has had huge success for many people, including myself. This was something I found and was pushing everyone to do on other threads. Boot up isn't recovery, simply step through to install (make sure wireless is connected so it downloads a new copy of Sierra). My theory is there is a buggy version of (Sierra) what they're putting on at the factory. This has even helped people that set it up fresh.

Look, you get 10 hours when you don't use the computer and leave it open! Hows that for service?
I can squeeze 20 if I don't touch it and leave it open!

In all reality guys, reinstalling Sierra alone, keeping every other app still installed and running the same pushed my battery from only getting 5 hours browsing the web only, to running 5-7 programs, brighter screen, my normal day to day stuff and getting 9-11 hours easy. I can't stress this out enough.

I think that it's Apple doing the crusade (with Tim riding at the front) and MacRumors is just reporting the destruction left behind.
The battery is a legit problem but I know for a fact that it's a software problem. A lot of people and Macrumors and spinning these macs to be terrible though! I love them. This is the same as a new model anything - the total model change has bugs. People will usually skip the first design changes of a car for this very problem. The laptops are fantastic but I can't imagine how fantastic (and I will sell mine to buy another one, as that's what I do) next year. I do usually sell my old Mac and buy a new once a year or once every 2 at most. After that, too much depreciation sets in.
