So they should be held accountable for other company's apps that are poorly written? Let me know how that works out for you...
What "other company's apps" are you referring to? I'm using Safari and Mail, and can watch battery life tick down on my MBP w/ TB like a damn timer. 100% to 9% in a little over four hours of light browsing and emailing with the screen set at 70% brightness is NOT ok, especially when the keynote and the website said to expect 10 hours under those conditions.

I think for now I will keep with my 2013 rMBP, I really wanted to justify to myself that I could benefit from an upgrade... but with the battery issues and graphic glitches... it just doesn't seem to be worth it.
What app is that you're using, Lex?

This is the same problem, like when iOS users restore or upgrade from some ancient backup. Then complain about a buggy new device, or slow
The difference being on my iOS device I can reset the network settings, which usually fixes that issue. So far there is nothing similar to that on MacOS.

Don’t mischaracterize his argument to make it easier to attack. It’s one of the most common logical fallacies, and trivial to spot.

Also, “there” should be “their”.

The reason cameras still use flash cards is because they can transfer huge amounts of data many times faster than is currently possible wirelessly. If you’re a photographer who captures huge raw files, speed matters more than going wireless for the sake of convenience or defending Apple’s honor for the MacBook Pro’s lack of an SD card reader.

Uh, you're right except if you're on a 5D4 you can carry a simple usb - usb-c cable and connect it directly to transfer. which may even be faster. I could never use my SD slot for my Canon because it uses CF, anyway.

Jesus man, are you on LCD or something? Can you PLEASE have a realistic view on how Apple is changing into a different company with different products without calling everybody a troll? MR is not only to blow sunshine up Apple 's ass all day long. Even Apple makes good and bad decisions, somehow you only seem the see one side of this, grow up.

PS: why send a tank you card? For the fact that if I want to buy a MBP I have to either settle for a Touch bar with a fast CPU or a MBP without a touch bar but then with a slower CPU? Yes, thank you very much Phil for screwing me over.
Yes, classic upselling technique. To get the processor you want, you have to shell out for the touch bar. Because they know that if you could get an identical computer without touch Bar for $500 less, almost no one would spring for the touch bar as an option

Mine has been flawless. 12 hours of battery on average when I have automatic graphics turned on, the USB-C ports work great and haven't been a headache at all. If you're a professional you'll have many things plugged in anyway, doesn't matter how they're plugged in, if you ask me. I have the 2.9GHz Radeon Pro 460, which handles games much better than the Mid 2015 maxed out MBP hands down, and 1TB storage. This thing is awesome!
What sort of black magic are you using that nets you three times as much battery life as my unit? Seriously, I hope your soul was worth the trade.

And, of course, based on the above phenomenon, Phill's almost-Vulkan logic will conclude that the touch bar is hugely popular :)

Stop it! That's going to be at odds with the whiner/moaner group's Apple is doomed narrative.

As I said previously, a firmware/software update would be coming soon that will fix the problem.

Nah, the new emoji were designed, with extreme care for detail and profound precision, to kill the battery bug ;-)

I wish apple would make two pro laptop machines, an ultra portable, which is what they have now, and a "workhorse" edition. The workhorse could be thicker, with bigger battery, more powerful chip(s), two ssd slots, up to 32gb ram, FireWire, Ethernet, etc.

They could certainly still make an elegant solution, but this would truly be a portable desktop. I think this is what a lot of pros want. We'd spend the money as well. I'm still with my 2012 MacBook Pro since they haven't made a user friendly upgradable machine since then. I remember when Steve Jobs introduced laptops that were easier for the consumer to upgrade. Though his machines weren't cheap, he certainly felt that getting the Mac into more hands was more important than a giant margin. They are so rich now, you'd think they could do more with the Macs :(

You could put a 21" iMac in a briefcase with a un-interruptable power supply. ;O But that bigger laptop you are talking about is going to be unwanted junk in the next refresh [<1 year?] when Intel releases 7th gen notebook chips and everything you want fits in this chasis.

Cant believe that there are people who purchased these new notebook with that toolbar gimmick.......

There are still 2015 models out there to be bought. I think thats the way to go as of now
It isn't that simple really.

First if you put a smaller battery in a machine you have to expect that battery life will be impacted when the hardware is fully exploited. For many users this doesn't happen often. Beyond that the 2015 models aren't great for battery life anytime software that uses the processors intensely is in operation. My 2015 13" can get terrible battery life when running a re-encode of a youtube download. The problem of course is that when a real professional picks up a MBP they expect to run pro software which is often processor intensive. In this case a smaller battery is never a good option.

Like it or not the new machines are very innovative especially with respect to ports and future viability. The MBP can be a real power house when at aa desk connected to high performance gear. The I/O bandwidth and the fast internal SSD ensure very high overall performance.

The new GPU is a huge advancement over the old chips. One can't underestimate its importance to many users. In fact for some users the new GPU can justify the entire machine purchase.

Further don't fall into the trap of blaming Apple. People on this forum have been warning people for over a year that Intel didn't have a viable up grade chip for the MBP, yet these same people would argue constantly that they did. This isn't rocket science boys, Intel has failed miserably to move ahead processor performance, at least in a way that is noticeable to the majority of users. One can blame Apple all they want but nobody has yet to show me an Intel chip that actually has a noticeable improvement with respect to older CPU's. Depending upon the user sometimes you are lucky to see 3-5% in the better benchmarks.

It should be noted that this won't get better in the near future as Intel moves to support AI and other features in future processors. Your only avenue to improvement is more cores and that only really helps if you can maintain single thread performance.

Yes, too many made up posts here. Are we seeing Paid posters? Seems like it. Apple employees should identify themselves when posting.

I doubt anybody’s being paid. I’ve been using Macs since 1988, so I know all too well how emotionally attached people can get get to Apple stuff. Sometimes they make up stories in order to defend Apple’s honor, claiming to have never seen some common problem, or insisting that their own Mac has been flawless.

There are lots of good reasons to purchase these new MBP's. the much faster and far more capable GPU being one, the faster SSD being another and USBC/TB3 being a huge one. Dwelling on the processor performance is not doing anybody any good as a laptop is a whole package. This is something everyone needs to understand, there is good reason to go with one of these machines if you understand the technology embedded within.

Seriously, what's going on at Apple? I've been a devoted user for more than 15 years, but now I'm really pissed off by the direction this company has taken. :(
Why? More so what is this mystery direction?

I've been on this four for years, as well as many other, and I have stated for the last year or so that Intel really didn't have an upgrade chip for the MBP. Note the vendor with the problem is Intel not Apple. Beyond that if you put a smaller battery into a machine with a processor rated for the same wattage it si pretty obvious that runtimes will be shortened when that processor actually runs at full capacity. Lucky for Apple this is hardly ever the case for machines running common user apps.

Does anyone EVER get Apple's advertised battery life?

After 15 years' worth of Apple products I don't think I ever have.

I've been running a 2015 MBP 13" since they came out. Surf the net and even watch a few youtube video and the battery last longer than i can sit in one place. Load the machine down with a task that actually uses the CPUs to their full extent and you can watch battery life shrink literally minute by minute. For example try re-encoding a youtube download while using the machine for other activities.

The problem is this shouldn't surprise anybody. It is no different than running a pick up truck to wrk everyday and then using it on the weekend to tow a heavy trailer. You work the machine harder and it uses more energy. In the case of the new MBP you are pulling that energy from a smaller battery so your tank is effectively smaller thus requiring more refills.

I would've bought it without the "toolbar gimmick", believe me. It's cool, but it did not sell me on it. If the 15" had come in a non-touch model, I probably would've bought it.

Either way, I'm glad to hear that this issue is software related. That at least means it has a chance of being fixed. I'll just be looking forward to Sierra 10.12.2

Well, let's face it, at least here in the US there are very few consumer protections against outright lying (oops. "exaggerating") when it comes to advertising. I always assume 50% the claimed battery life on any product in real-world scenarios, which seems to be about accurate. I don't know, do we blame Apple for abusing a system tilted against the consumer? I suppose you have to fix the system before any company could honestly estimate battery life (or fuel economy, or actual aloe-vera content of an "aloe vera" lotion, or, or, or...) Any company being honest will instantly lose sales. Also, who the heck expects to get decent life while gaming? That one isn't on Apple, that's a major misunderstanding on the part of anyone expecting to game on battery...

The sheer vitriol from users regarding all of these issues with the new MBPs would have been so much less if they were priced fairly. $1799 for the 13" is such a goddamn disgrace.

Curious, how much should it have cost? While I do hear the usual news about Mac stuff every now and then, I've never used them, so I don't really have any reference point

"Apple is doomed" in long-form.

I've heard this crap every which way from Sunday since 1985.

It might be "crap" to you but can you honestly say that Apple has been heading in the right direction as of late? For a company with so many employees, cash, resources and a history of great products, the last few years have been anything but that. For the record, I would love to be wrong and have the next new product blow my mind.

On the other hand just look what has been happening. Apple is religiously bringing out a new iPhone at least once a year. Why not do the same for its computers? A simple refresh would go a long way to keep its user base happy and growing. What about the recent news that Apple is dumping the WiFi stations? Why abandon those Apple users, like me, who have been investing in those products? I can go on but I'm sure you get what I am saying.

I am in the same boat. I grew up in Bay Area and had family friends who worked at Apple and have been part of their ride when Jobbs left and then when he came back. I have personally purchased over 30 Apple Computers for myself over the years, towers, laptops, iMacs, I have had lots freelance businesses and lots of personal computers, I still have a few 3,1's and 5,1 towers in my house I can't bare to get rid off, nothing else Apple makes now is better!! When Apple made the G4, Grey and White, it was the first computer I actually felt could compete with the PC world. For speed and peripherals. It finally was using standard PC architecture and I was able to edit video with Final Cut using firewire. It was an amazing setup. Fast forward almost 20 years I feel like Apple is trying to convince us of their innovation, and not really innovating. This all started with Apple KILLING the post production market with the TRASHCAN tower. I remember TIM COOKE staying, "who said we can't innovate" when the curtain fell and they showed their darth vader trash can Mac Pro. My first thought was COOKE your an idiot. First off you just killed the Pro market on OS X, secondly you just designed your self into a hole. Everything on the MacPro Tower is proprietary, nothing is standard, every time they make a new release of that computer they will have to Redesign the whole thing, and thats R&D and money out the door. The D700 GPU wasn't the fastest thing in the world when it came out, and its sauntered on there.. Now the Thunderbolt2 is now passed up by the Thunderbolt3 USBC world. Where is the MacPro tower now??? ITS DEAD.. ITS in "INNOVATION PURGATORY"

They did the same thing with the Laptops, INNOVATE by any means necessary.. If you want a SUPER SUPER SUPER LIGHT AND THIN LAPTOP, buy a MACBOOK, don't take the PRO LINE and make it a MACBOOK. Don't INNOVATE the "PRO" away..

Anyway, I think their main concern at the moment is keeping their stock trading as high as possible and that means, INNOVATION for the SAKE of INNOVATION. Convince the NOVICE public and NOVICE shareholders(who own PC Laptops) that APPLE is dominating the creative and innovative computer and technology markets, without listening to those creatives that made Apple, Apple. Investors don't really know the difference.. so everyone seems to be fine. A market 80% of investors, admittedly, don't understand.

Right now Apple can burn cash, they could loose more money than they made during Jobb's reign as long as the current iOS customers upgrade even modestly. And its funny because TIM COOKE is the king of the bean counters, and he is totally fine not making money how money was made in the past. Tim Cooke is kinda gouging the current Mac Users, to make money, the ones who have stayed loyal all these years. GRANTED PC Companies have done this since Day 1. Don't even get into backend and database companies.. they will take your house away for an update cost.

BUT IM still IN.. I love OS X and Apple for all its faults. Im still pissed at how messed up iphoto to Photo is, and how messed up iTUNES is now.. WHAT A MESS... but OS X is clean and fast, and as horrible as Apple is these days, they still make way better products than anyone else.

I was about to buy a new MacBook pro for myself, my company actually passed on them.. LOL. but I am waiting to see where all this lands..

I am not sure who can lead this company anymore.. I guess my 5,1 will still last until LINUX gets better or someone from Apple goes ROGUE writes a new OS.

I feel your frustration!

This is so disappointing my Next Laptop is probably gonna be a Razer Blade Stealth with a Hackintosh, Since Apple has forgotten how to make Computers and has become exceedingly good on how to make a fool of us.

I have mine for a few days now and I think this is the best laptop I have ever owned. Bright and crisp screen. Great keyboard. Absolutely love the touch bar. Smaller footprint than my MacBook Air. Touchpad is great. So much better graphics than my MacBook Air from last year. Give it a chance.

Not saying much about the battery life, are you?
[doublepost=1480994903][/doublepost]These are the facts: this is not even the original thread posted on the MR MacBook Pro forums; this thread was started less than three days ago, on a Saturday morning. AND THIS THREAD NOW HAS OVER 1000 POSTS.

Those three facts, together, signify that BatteryGate is a Very Big Deal. As well as some of the other problems mentioned in the video review that has been posted several times in this thread (trackpad palm recognition failure and speakers blown out, for starters).

If Apple, Tim Cook, et al associated with the company aren't paying attention to this by now, they are seriously out to lunch.

I wanted very much to buy this new MBP—but instead I will be buying last year's model. It is a better machine all around, and a MUCH better value.

I bought a macbook pro 2016 touch bar and i must say I am not impressed at all! I had a macbook air 2014 and i could get around 7-8 hours usage, i bought it used and i thought that was impressive! So this year all I've been doing is saving for this macbook pro and all i can get out of it is 3-4hours with basic usage!
I dont use chrome, but Safari and all i basically do is use word, web browse and i might watch a tv show that goes for 30mins. I used low brightness levels and had to put the mac on charge 1-3 per day its worse then an iphone 5!. I had to take it back and get a refund. I am so lost now, i had my heart set on this mac... what a huge mistake, so glad i could get my 2.7k back!

So if your thinking about getting this macbook, think again!!! for the price i was expecting to be blown away, now im back to square one.

For the last decade+ of MB Pro (Powerbook prior to that) release cycles, I have been wait-and-buy. This whole MB Pro release has put me firmly into wait-and-see mode. This time instead of buying the most loaded 15" on offer, I'm buying an SSD upgrade kit from OWC for my otherwise maxed-out 2013 MB Pro Retina, and that's it for the next few years or perhaps...that's just it. Who knows what will be released by the Windows camp in the next few years? This is the risk Apple is taking by so solidly under-delivering on expectations.

Staunch Apple supporter since 1985, power user since the late 90's, and now gone from enthusiastic early adopter to....meh. Not saying that Apple is dead, not saying I'm giving up. Just that this cycle is different. Form over function, gimmickry over performance. Incremental improvements, more than incremental price increase. The value just isn't there.

A worrisome trend for myself. One that should also be, for Apple, but I'm sure, isn't. But if you can alienate me, you can alienate anyone.
