Number 1, I still don't understand the need for an entry level macbook pro...

Number 2, if they'll release the first M2 in March but not the mac mini M1 Max, that'll be a real joke...

M2 would not be more powerful than an M1 pro/max in terms of GPU and multicore. ALso, I mean if you have more than one macbook pro then by definition ONE of them would be the entry level pro, so not sure what the problem is. You can argue a road warrior focused pro laptop is not a pro workload but... some think so.

Apple will have to still make M1 chips at the same time as M2. Otherwise they would have to update the MBP, MBA, mini and iPad Pro at the same time.

Their is actually a lower level Audible Plan. It’s not marked you have to ask for it or is offered to you when trying yo cancel the Premium Plus. This level do not offer access to the Plus catalog and you only get one credit every other month instead of monthly.

Well how about that. It’s absolutely asinine how hard it is to shop around on Audible and get a sense of things before picking a plan, including trying to get a sense of which titles need a credit vs. which are in the Plus catalog. I consider myself “street smart” for online/digital shopping compared to the average joe but now I’m more confused than I was yesterday. If not for me, my mother would never consider trying Audible since she has no sense of the library tiers and the value of paying up for credits. She was unclear after I tried to weed things out after believing I got a sense of things, only to find out today that I’m now unclear.

If only Audible was owned by a world-class parent company with decades of e-commerce experience who‘s learned how to market/explain things clearly to customers having a wide array of “street smarts” when navigating an online/digital marketplace…

Trailing back to the subject of this thread, it’s so funny to realize there are still areas of disappointment with Apple (who was once the “it just works” company) marketing/segmentation/interfaces still, even for some of us “street smart” folk. Deciding between pro and non-pro phones, iPads, and macbooks is rarely a 30-second slam dunk decision but instead requires way too much thought than should be required. And I don’t think it results in just bucking up to the next-up expensive option like Apple might think. Apple’s refurbished online store was dumbed down years ago to where it’s hard to differentiate various offerings w/o first opening up each and taking notes.

More and more offerings/options as time passes…coupled with less and less clear marketing/segmentation/interfaces…not a good combo that it would seem even a non-genius would recognize has some potentially negative impacts to their prospective buyers…

What about a 12” Macbook Pro based on an M2? It could have all the connectivity from its larger brothers in a smaller and more power efficient package, replacing the 13” Pro?

Was a commercial photographer (chemical) for over 30 years. Hate the title "Professional" would make my arm hairs stand up when people would address me as a "Pro."
My new 14 inch does not have MacBook Pro in my face, it is beautifully on the bottom - out of site! And there are eight screws, which is interesting to me.

"Entry level Pro Model" a sentence that should not even exist. Either something is a "Pro" or it is not.
In all honesty, because the MacBook Air exists with the same performance (minus thermal throttling) as the entry-level MacBook Pro, for a few hundreds less, Apple should scratch the latter. It's just not worth it.

Connect the dots: A10X was based on A10, A12X was based on A12, A14X ... eh .. I mean M1 is based on A14. Now think about what M2 aka A16X will be based on. So, no, no M2 before after the A16 actually launches. M-Series chips are on a 2 year update cycle. 100% sure.

why MR reports on DigiTimes is beyond me. I’ve been on this site for over 15 years. DigiTimes is ridiculously unreliable and just annoying at this point. Bet my left whatever that there’s no M2 MBP next month. ?
Because MacRumors is making money off of others content. Easy to copy and paste, rephrase a sentence or 2 and toss over some credit to the original story. PROFIT! They could care less about accuracy and source.

This is a idiotic, patently false rumor. Macrumors shows it colors regurgitating stuff like this--clearning just wants the page views and engagement numbers.

What are the chances the Macbook Pro will be 15" or 16"?

I would say near none, but there is some hope.

For one, Apple has always considered the larger screen size to mean "Pro". For a long time, only the "Pro" phone was available in the "Max" size and the 15-16" laptop has always been the highest-end "Pro" laptop, with the entry-level never going beyond 13". The larger screen size is something enthusiasts are willing to pay more for. Most consumers value portability over every factor and thus prefer the smaller screen size.

That said, I say "hope" because the rumors of the iPhone 14 indicate for the first time ever, a non-Pro phone will be available in a larger size, i.e. "iPhone 14 Max". If that's indicative of anything, we might see a non-high-end MacBook with a larger screen size.

An M2? I just bought my M1 Pro lol.

I can’t think of any feature that would make me upgrade. The laptop is already fast enough. I’d love to ditch my gaming computer and just use my laptop but of course, Apple wont have the RTX raytracing and the selection of games remains the same so … meh.

“Pro Mini” ?
It should be MacBook (13” and 15”) and MacBook Pro (14” and 16”). Scrap the MacBook Air name and entry Pro model, with the redesign away from the wedge form it may mean that its time Apple is looking to bring back the MacBook name.

M2 not Pro or Max version will probably enable dual monitor support and focus more on GPU advancements. Some WiFi 6E and MagSafe 3.0. It’s performance on single core may match the M1 Pro but it’s multi core score will not. Pro models will focus more on multi core performance and graphics enhancements.
