What size screen MacBook Pro (2021) did you order?

Yeah, I mean one of the standard models without adding optional extra RAM/SSD.

When I ordered my first mac, the late 2013 13", there were only 2 base models. I ordered the top one (8/256) and it worked great for 6 years. I did a lot on it that I hadn't anticipated (lots of development, including web, video processing and basic AI) and it kept on going. That gives me a lot of confidence that the same config in a new machine should do fine. My current 16" is pimped almost to the max because I thought I needed it (RAM for VMs etc) but I find that I actually don't use it at all. I started using Logic but it's never taking more than 3-4GB RAM. So 16/1TB should take me a long way.

As the other poster said, yes, they should all be available at once. But I order a BE keyboard and type US International on it blind. I want the ISO layout (tall enter, extra key next to the left shift) and don't care what's written on the keys.
Thanks for your reply :) Also I have another question,I saw someone earlier today talking about cards which can extend your warranty on purchases, does that Apply to any Apple products if so which cards are they?

You need to know that in the EU, you get 2 years warranty immediately. Apple needs to offer it, because it's EU law. In the US, it's only one year.

Aside from that, there's AppleCare. I never bought it, but when I simulate it with a standard M1 13" MBP, it costs €249. You get 3 years repair instead of 2. It's up to you if that's worth it. Honestly, I wouldn't bother. I bought my 16" as a refurb and it started crashing. I spammed Apple phone support with log files and the like. In the end, they swapped it for a brand new one. All without AppleCare.

I'm thinking 16" MBP, 16GB RAM and 512 GB SSD but am considering buying X-Plane 11 or 12 and wonder if I would be needing the 32GB GPU option rather than bump to 32GB of RAM? I don't intend to run anything else that is 'heavy' (at the same time). Although both options would be nice, but $400 (even $800) in my pocket might be nicer IF I don't need to spend to get decent performance. Can/should I stay basic to run X-Plane?

But if you spend the extra and go 32gb. if that's possible for you, are you not future proofing your mac for that much longer till you are ready to but a m3x down the road?

what if there are new apps that you would love to run down the road and they run much better with more ram?

Thanks but you perhaps missed the point - " ... am considering buying X-Plane 11 or 12 and wonder if I would be needing the 32GB GPU option rather than bump to 32GB of RAM?" In other words, do I add 16GB to RAM or add 16GB to GPU to run X-Plane?

BIG UPFRONT WARNING: All specifications of next weeks MBPs are RUMOURS. They might not be true. Even the release of MBPs at this next event is a RUMOUR, for all we know Apple might be releasing a new line of pet collars designed for AirTags. ..."unleashed"... :p

Now for some clarification: If you buy the Apple Silicon MBP with 32GB RAM, you are buying the MBP with 32GB GPU. Apple Silicon RAM is shared with the GPU, and there is no distinction between the two.

If you are asking if a 32 CORE GPU and 16GB of RAM would be better or worse than a 16 CORE GPU and 32GB of RAM, I don't know. I suspect more GPU cores would be of more benefit than more RAM, as 16GB is generally plenty. X-Plane 11 recommends 16GB, with 8GB 'minimum'.

The caveat here is that some of the RAM will be eaten up by the GPU, but as a 4GB GPU is 'recommended', 16GB should still be plenty to have it run just fine.

Getting the 32 core GPU with 32GB of RAM would be safest, especially for the future X-Plane 12 with unknown system requirements, but obviously more expensive.

Any recommendations or thoughts on just a base model?

As far as I can tell, M1 is similar to a 1050 or 1050ti, before we start throwing Rosetta 2 into the mix.

I've run X-Plane 11 on a mobile 1050 or 1050ti (can't remember which) years ago for work, it ran just fine, at 1080p.

I don't know how the M1 runs it now, but I would be surprised if it caused too may problems, assuming you're not trying to run it at native resolution and the highest quality settings.

I don't want to make predictions this close to the event, however I would assume that if all the rumours are true and we are getting a 16-core GPU in the next MBP as the base model, then it should logically be able to run X-Plane 11 just fine, but again probably not at native res. But if it runs at 1080p, or maybe even 1440p, is that really so bad?

Getting down into the weeds, I don't know what the performance penalty is with Rosetta 2. I don't know that the base model will come with 16-core GPU, it might be binned at 12, or even just 8. Who knows? Alternatively, this also depends on the use of any mods for X-Plane, which may significantly decrease the performance, or use more RAM than expected, wiping out performance with the very likely base 16GB.

Why is nobody talking about SCALPERS?

Paul

Because either everyone is going to get their Macs either from the store directly themselves, or delivered directly to them. Long gone now are the scalpers standing in line overnight at an Apple Store to buy up all of the stock to sell them for 4x the price. Spending nearly $9000 to possibly get 4 topline Macs to sell them for $4000 each is a lot of upfront cost to put together to buy.

BL.

This is roughly the same pricing that scalpers are dealing with flipping Nvidia RTX 3090's. Flipping a $2000 MBP for $2500-3000 isn't unreasonable to be concerned about if the stock dries up quickly and the reviews show more than 2x performance increases. :(

The difference though is that while they can manipulate the stock online, it would be harder to manipulate the stock at a given store, so the legit buyer still has an advantage, as they would have more than one way to get the model they want.

Can't wait to see the battery life on these new pros, if my little guy still has 34% left with this usage, these new machines with their bigger batteries are going to be insane. 😳

Still not sold on the base model? 😂

I’m using my base model M1 MacBook Pro the same way you do, safari & YouTube, even the 8gb ram I’ve got is overkill for what I use it for. 👇 No slowdowns or beach balls.

If I decide to get the base model 16” that is going to come with a even more powerful chip, a extra 8gb ram, more powerful GPU, it’s going to be even more overkill than my current M1 Pro. 😂

Even if you do upgrade the ram, you won’t even notice the difference when using the machine the way you do.

You’ll be throwing that extra money down the drain.

Your call in the end, I wouldn’t get the extra ram, you’ll never use it, that money is better off in your pocket than apple.

All depends on that launch day delivery at this point. If launch day delivery is promised base model it is. I’m going to see how much extra RAM will cost.

You are right. The base model just does it all. So I may get the base model just like you :) we shall see.

Thanks!!!

Looking to grab a base 14 inch to replace my 2020 13 inch. Hopefully pricing will pretty much be the same and there won’t be a delay with delivery times.

Never purchased a apple product straight after a event, if they do go up for preorder straight after the apple event, does it happen as soon as the event it over? Or do we wait a hour or two for the store to come back up?
It normally starts right away. Right after when the event is over. I hope Apple opens it on Friday. It’s just fair for everyone 😂
