I’m keeping my expectations low, so I don’t end up disappointed.
We all know what happened with a re-design ⌚️7? I think Apple will surprise us all. Apple knows people are waiting so they will definitely bring their A+ game. Hope your wallet is ready ;)

I have a feeling the setup I want will be around $3K. I want the 14”, max out GPU, at least 16GB RAM and 1TB.

If the price is about the same as the equivalent Intel 13”, i.e. $3400 for 32GB/4TB I will not be entirely depressed. I’m almost hoping there will not be 64GB/8TB options so I do not need to consider them.

The credit card I need to use for this currently allows $5334, so that’s a hard limit, but I’m hoping to fit a new Thunderbolt Display too. (One can dream, right?)

Yay! I'm happy you are ordering your MacBook Pro! Be prepared for Monday. The storm is about to come. Can't wait!!!
Yeah, it’s been a crazy year! Started the year off with my 12PM and new MBAM1, and now I have neither! But I have some happy family members 🤠 Hopefully I’ll have a new 13PM and MBP14M1X by December! Getting ready for my road trips next year and ‘ghost town’ explorations (in the 4Runner overland camping setup you saw photos of earlier this year). Miss it after 2 years being on hold.

Over this downtime, I built a 14x14 studio and furnished it for audio/video podcasting…… 😬 But that’s another story and still in the works. If it doesn’t pan out, I’ll have an excellent man-cave with an old barn wood interior and rustic beams (scavenged from an old barn I tore down), and great tunable ambient lighting!

If Apple says the new Macbooks are available starting today, would that be straight after the event finishes?

Exactly. Who knows. If the design is iterative, I don't think that's going to matter all that much if they give us everything we've been asking for: speed, performance, battery life, ports, and improved display quality.
Oh, Apple will give us something such as speed, performance, battery life and so on but there is going to be a trade off. We won’t be getting everything.

Exciting things happening for you. Staying busy. I like it. Can’t wait till you get your new iPhone. You will love it. Battery life is insane. Are you ready for Monday? Will you be watching the event!

passing on this one

the M1 Pro I currently have is still a beast for normal usage. I don't do any renderings or other computational heavy stuff, so I don't really need extra RAM and CPU power. 😉

A few questions:

1. Assuming Apple has been manufacturing these for a while, will they still ship from China or would we expect Apple to have brought some to the U.S. already?

2. Since Monterey hasn’t gone GM yet, are we expecting these to ship immediately with Big Sur or after a delay so Monterey can be installed?

3. Will the EDU store go live at the same time? If so, what does a parent need to do/upload/etc. to qualify for EDU pricing?

Thanks.

1. They are probably shipping from China.

2. I'd expect a week or so lag time from announcement.

3. EDU store will be pretty much online at the same time - might be a very short delay from main store (from past experience).

From the hype going on right now, it feels like we're going to be getting everything. Including a 1080p web cam.

Seems like an absolute must. If working from home is the new normal, no doubt the vast majority of buyers would sacrifice a small amount of thickness/weight for a better camera.

Re: #3, are we talking minutes or maybe an hour? With the hype on these things, I’m afraid not ordering immediately will mean a long wait for delivery. Thanks again.
