My BFF was also on the fence about a Ultrafine 5k. He found them at Best Buy with a three month holiday return policy. Got it the other day, he’s so happy. Not even that much of a techie. All the other monitors he was considering are already out of consideration.

Just received my LG 32" external monitor yesterday afternoon - LG 32UL950-W - 32" Class UltraFine 4K UHD LED Monitor with Thunderbolt 3. Hooked up to iMac M1 in lieu of my MBP 16" M1 Max not arriving till 11/29 to 12/6 timeline. External displays are great for photo & video editing, coding, browsing, etc. Funny to notice that Apple is drawing down stocks of their UltraFine 4K & 5K displays - think they will be offering new panels soon, other than the XDR.

The thing he missed is putting an Ethernet dongle on the monitor. So when I plug the single cable, I get charging, camera, sound, mic, Ethernet, three USB-A ports and my backup drive is velcroed to the monitor, so that comes on the one cable as well. Otherwise he hits it on all points.
Also, regarding the price, this is an investment that will last across many machines…
