Out of curiosity what are y'all using your new computers for? I am using mine for software development.
Safari and YouTube. That's about it. Must be nice to actually use it for software development. Unleashing the beast to its full capacity 😎

So the M1 Pro Macs do heat up! But heated up at a very odd use-case. I was on https://www.gather.town/ for an online socializing session for a conference. The bottom plate actually heated up similar to the intel Macs when there is a FCP project and had to keep the Mac away from the lap. This thing doesn't even heat up for FCP but for this site.

Did you actually hear the fans running? They perform very well. The airflow system is just fascinating.

When an old Mac is traded in, Apple does not ask for the power cord or the brick. They’re cool like that. 😎😁
What if it's a new Mac? Or what if you are returning it. The reason why I'm asking... I wonder if @LasersGoPewPew will keep the power bricks, 😂

and there is thread :p
As mentioned earlier in this thread, the Apple Store employee suggested I do this. I was bemoaning the long wait times in the face of needing a new Mac _now_, and they said well you could just get this one we have in stock while yours is on order and just return it without damage before Jan 8.

So no, I don't feel bad about this at all.

14" M1 Max, 32core GPU, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD

I got the 14" because I travel quite often. During travel and planes I didn't like anything bigger than a 15" because it's too cramped for me to use while flying and I don't like lugging around a big laptop. I used to travel 30-35 weeks out of the year. On road trips and motorcycle rides I can more easily pack a 14" with my gear and in saddlebags. Much easier for me to wrangle with overall. Plus, I just prefer a smaller laptop. I connect to dual 27" 4K monitors while working at home.

I got the M1 Max because I wanted the higher SoC bandwidth with maxed out cores, then chose the 32GB since I'm not performing intensive CPU tasks. I probably could have gotten away with a M1 Pro, but I plan on keeping this for a few years and wanted to make it somewhat future proof since Apple is advancing so darned fast! The internal SSD is incredibly fast so I wanted it big enough to do my work from the internal SSD, but I keep the laptop pretty well maintained so the 2TB works for me. I use a fast portable 4TB external SSD (takes advantage of the USB4 speeds) to offload my completed projects and keep reference files. At home, I now have a 10TB Raid LAN storage system.

I break my use down as follows:

Photo editing of full-frame DSLR raw images (10-20%)
Video editing from iPhone 13PM and and learning ProRes (5%)
Audio mixing for Podcasting with some video (10-20%)
Entertainment, movies & music (10-20%)
Internet, research, blogging, etc (25-30%)

Mine order is still stuck in processing and Delivery dates are still Nov. 18 to 26, and so far no email from apple saying its going to be delayed I hope I see movement later today, Northern, Virginia, is where I'm at

My very first apple order, macbook pro 14 inch base model, says delivery between Nov 24th to dec 2nd, so far still says like it did from the beginning "Processing order" no charge on my apple card, (Used both apple card and gift card) hope yours ships out soon..your gif of your pup looks adorable, husky right? he looks like our simmie :)

Video:FCP, Motion, After Effects, Compressor. Really can’t wait to see render times and shorter exports. Heck even if there are fewer spinning beach balls, that’s worth it for me.

Didn't here the fan at all on my M1 MacBook Pro. 👂
I’m so used to the quiet, that it’s a little startling to hear the fans going on my mother’s 2020 mba just running safari. I’m definitely spoiled now with how quietly the M1 MBP Pros run now. Even my 2020 Mac Mini fans would get loud if I had too many browsers open or was on a Teams/Webex meeting.
