Listening to Center traffic.

You're definitely going to hear a lot of cargo traffic here, because PANC is a huge stopping point for those flights. In fact, it is a major airport on the great circle route. Plus, it's one of the few airports in range of any ETOPS and non-ETOPS (Extended Twin operations) flights between Asia and North America.

Think about it. If flown directly over the Pacific, if a flight was in trouble/declared an emergency, the only real airports that have any services in the northern Pacific are Guam and Hawaii. Wake and Midway effectively have nothing, and it is more fuel efficient to fly over the polar region than straight across.

Anywho, your flight isn't there yet, as you should be able to see when it lands relative to your local time. From what I see, it's supposed to be around 9pm-9:30pm PST. Adjust that for your timezone, and have a listen.

Will do thanks for the excellent write up!

Well my MBP arrived at around 4 PM and the screen is gorgeous! But I really can't say much else because I made the mistake of doing my Time Machine backup onto a 5400 RPM portable HD. Unfortunately, Migration Assistant won't let me restore from the Carbon Copy Cloner clone I made to a fast SSD right before I traded in my old MBP. Soooooo... we are 3 + hours into the restore, with an hour yet to go.

Moral of the story, even if you don't routinely backup to Time Machine, do a Time Machine backup to the fastest SSD you have right before your new MBP arrives. Evidently, if you do that, then the restore goes quite quickly--or so I am told.

In any event, I'm super pumped to get to playing with my new toy... 48 minutes and counting... ?

Think my MBP just hopped on this flight - UPS My Choice showed departure from Incheon to Anchorage at 820 AM 11/20/2021:

Yep.. that should be your flight. Now, depending on where you are, you could actually stay up and listen to your flight coming in:

Start with Anchorage Center (Kenai), and work your way down to PANC Approach, then PANC Tower. You can hear it in the air all the way until it gets to the UPS ramp and shuts down. Reverse that order for the next flight out closest to your departure scan that is headed to KSDF.

Additionally, you could check to see if your nearest major airport has LiveATC coverage. More than likely a UPS flight should land there. Now, there may be some exceptions.. UPS uses Rockford for its base, not MDW or ORD.. here in Sacramento, they use MHR instead of SMF. OAK is the base for the Bay area, not SFO. So check to see which ones UPS has a history of flights for in your area, and then track your flight from SDF to that airport, and you should be set.

The problem I think I ran into while doing this was which frequencies to monitor for, there are several. It's easy as a pilot because of the specific handoffs but harder to find the frequency of a flight en-route. Do you know any tricks to this?

Yes, but no. You're limited to what frequencies the scanners at the airport in question are tuned to. If a scanner is on the frequency that the pilot is being told to contact, then you're good to switch to the next feed.

If the scanner is tuned to multiple frequencies and they include the frequency the pilot is being told to contact, you're good, but keep in mind that it will rotate through all of those frequencies until a transmission is heard.

If the frequency the pilot is being told to contact isn't being monitored by scanners at that airport, then we're out of luck. As far as PANC goes they are pretty well covered.

As these are done all by volunteers some airports may be lucky to have a single feed. Some major airports have super sites where every frequency is monitored.

Mine still says its been picked up still no scheduled Delivery date yet for me and looks like it it is still in China- Like I said before - I think Fedex has it but just waiting for clearance from customs or just waiting intil the get more to fill a pallet. Apple order status page says Nov. 26 - I say it dose not leave china soon then it won't get here by Friday November 26,- I also ordered a Keyboard cover from here https://gouppercase.com/products/premium-keyboard-protector - since they have them now for the 14 & 16 inch M1 Pro/ M1 Max MacBook pros now- this kind of the cover that I have been using on my 13 inch intel july 2019 MacBook Pro and it has really helped keeping all of the crud out between the keyboard keys since the July 2019 had the butterfly keyboard and I really had not had a issue with since I have been using the cover
Like yours, mine went FedEx, shipped quickly out of China, but it's been in Memphis for a week waiting on customs clearance. Talked to both Apple and FedEx, and they just have a cluster F of stuff there to clear out. So... not sure they'd ship more into Memphis until they can process them. On Apple site, mine says delivery 11/23 but it's been in the US since 11/13.

My card was charged about an hour ago.
14” silver M1 Pro 10/16/16, 32 GB ram, 1 TB ordered Nov. 5 and as of right now still processing with a delivery window of Dec. 9 - 16.
I’m coming from a 2013 mbp, the last few weeks of waiting haven’t really compared to the years of waiting. Really excited for this new machine.

Looks like mine is still in China- and no movement and I'm its expose to be delivered on Nov. 26- I know Fedex has it, but its probably sitting in China for clearance - then I think it might get cleared later today or tomorrow and I think once it reaches the US - it will move alot faster because when I chated with Apple they said its 5 day shipping and it should be here Nov. 26. so that means it should leave China soon

My 16” M1 Max 24c/64GB/2TB just got charged a few hours ago. Delivery window was Dec 9-16 but hasn’t updated yet. Ordered 10/25 after canceling a 10/18 order (16” M1 Max 32c/32gb/1tb).

Nice!

I have same anticipated delivery window as you (Dec 9-16), but a different machine in my case (16" M1 Pro 32GB 1TB) as well as a Nov 8 order date. No movement at all other than two changes (improvements) in anticipated delivery since placing my order. Seeing your report that a Nov 5 order has been charged is getting me excited.
