OMG! All bow down to the holiness macbook pro!

the styrofoam is so cool, though. the little cutouts to save weight (presumably)
SO NEAT!

The cutouts are not actually to save weight but to protect the MBP for any impact. Air will definitely stay on these cutouts thus protecting the machine better for any bumps. Remember how eggs are packed and how the law of thermodymics is used to described the new MBP in apple site? The designer of the box knows a lot about laws of Physics.:) Just my thought!

the MacBook Pros are shipping, and all anybody can talk about are the power adapters and the frikkin' styrofoam?

I'll calm down. just hurry up and ship so I can get mine. (see signature.)

Hmm, why are people complaining about the huge power brick?

This is kind of amazing me too. Of all the gripes that people could aim at this machine, I can't see that the larger power brick is a big issue.

Then again, I've never purchased anything based on the look of the power adaptor or charger so maybe I'm just odd. ;)

I'm interested to hear how the battery life fairs in "real life" application, considering the final PowerBooks weren't much for overall performance (you know the screen, battery, etc issues).

Same here. I'd get about 4 hours out of my 12" Powerbook with brightness turned down to two bars and just mainly doing web browsing and dealing with email.

3.5 hours on one of these machines isn't pant wettingly exciting but it's not terrible and with brightness turned down, I'm sure we could see better battery life than that.

I think for a lot of people the gripe is the fact that if they need to travel with their adaptor its guna take up more space, thus making they're new portable, a bit less portable. Maybe!

It doesnt really bother me either way, i did wonder though. is it possible to use the old powerbrick, with it just charging the macbook slower than the new powerbrick?

I'm sure that this won't be possible; the old connectors are different than the new MagSafe connectors.

It's not like you're going to have to carry an elephant with you. If the previous adapter did fit in your bag, this one probably will too. I'd prefer it to be smaller, but you cannot have a way more powerful computer, a brighter screen, and expect the old 65W charger to charge it at the same speed.

I can appreciate what you mean but it just doesn't look all the much bigger. Not enough to make a big difference in a bag anyway. Maybe just me.

Don't think the old powerbricks won't work as the Macbook has the new magnetic adaptor which looks totally different.

Ok, i've never owned a powerbook before, i just assumed that to be one of the only feasible negatives that so many people seem to have about the new powerbrick.

that powerbrick still looks better than any other laptop powerbricks you can find in this world. just look at Dell's.

I'm not sure what you and the rest of the people bitching are talking about, this bigger "brick" thing, the new Macbook's power brick is the size of an Airport Express, which you can easily take with you, I have two of them, I know.

I own an iBook (will be getting a Macbook) and my yoyo adapter is the same size but round, I've traveled everywhere with my iBook and never once thought "damn, this yoyo is too damn big!" It fits very easily in my bag. As my old Pismo adapter fit in my bag. I guess if someone bought only a tiny little Macbook sleeve they may gripe (but their stupid), most of us with super pocketed carrying cases (like my Kensington) I could put about 20 of the new power bricks in there with room to spare.

Hmm, why are people complaining about the huge power brick? Its honestly not THAT big. its by no means HUGE. I swear people are dying for something to complain about. Your bag now has room for one less roll of lifesavers. Is it that hard to deal with?

THANK YOU!!!

"I'm not sure what you and the rest of the people bitching are talking about, this bigger "brick" thing"

There's no arguing, it is bigger. I don't personally mind, was just answering the post before me which enquired what the problem that people have with the powerbrick is. The size effecting the portability is the only problem i could think of.

Thanks for being disingenuous, or a troll, considering there's a Dull unInspiron 7000 adapter five feet to my left, more narrow perhaps but much longer and just as thick as the new Macbook power adapter you're off-based. Sorry your glass is half empty there bro but you're whining is unjustified and uncalled for... as is anyone trying to come up with seemingly random reasons to complain over minutiae.

I think you've just agreed with the OP.

Wasn't he saying that the Macbook powerbrick was better than Dells?

hehe,

you would need a pair of sun glasses to work in front of the MBP :D

but i wonder if anyone else noticed, the trackpad on the MBP is much wider than the PB G4.

I happened to read

I read on another thread that one possible reason for the bigger power brick is because the 85W bricks in the smaller casing (similar in size to the old 65W ones) are more expesive and get significantly hotter.

So its... More expensive, hotter, smaller brick vs. Less expensive, cooler, slightly larger brick....

You do the math...

cutting price expenses down is a big task by apple to ensure their own profit, and not break your wallet in half in the process... and I'm sure a brick 1" longer is an excellent place to to save on both ends. c'mon people.. really

Can we atctually get someone on here that has a MacBook Pro and let us know how it is doing in the real world?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!? :)

First post from me new macbook stock 2.0. FedEx suprised me, I had to jump out of bed and get dressed really quick. So nice compared to the ibook i had been using for the last month after selling my pbg4. If you want to ask questions im rick98761 on aim
