 I really sucked in English class for both high school & College; and this last sentence got me thinking ... the words "was" and "is" in the same sentence talking about the same subject (hardware) is this a no-no?! I ask only because its something I do everyday, both written & verbally.

Just 2 months more from either the MacBook in Black or the MacBook Pro.
reason I'm waiting is for the July 1st (before I begin saving) because of working overtime & for the official engadgement of the GST to drop 1% for all sales that is taxed. (for a MacBook Black with 1GB RAM & AirPort Express & a nioce laptop bag I'll save anywhere from $199 (MacBook Alone) to $300 for the complete package. That 1% is a big deal for me.

PS> I searched high & low, via IE v7 Beta2 and I cannot find mention on Apple's site for Dual Boot for the MacBook.

PSS> I really hope I can do some movie editing (miniDV, non HD) and music composition on this puppy. This thing will seperate my WinXP computing needs from the Dell machine that my family uses more and more.

Off topic, but the sentence is fine--it's lacking some commas, but it's properly constructed. Switching tenses in clauses is a no-no, however, as is changing tenses from sentence to sentence when discussing the same subject.

You can knock yourself out with iMovie and GarageBand, right up until you run out of hard drive space. Of course, you should upgrade the stock RAM to whatever you can afford as soon as possible, but that's just a general rule of thumb for buying computers.

Bottom option. You unnecessarily ordered Priority Mail instead of just plain old first class with insurance which in Florida is the same speed since they are also in Florida.

So Cybergypsy, would you mind telling us how you're using your MacBook and how satisfying you find it to be - especially in light of your having just switched from the last iBook which you bought only a few months ago? I know you are a style queen. MacBook looks like it really fits in with your amazingly stylish life. Does it also perform superior computing functions? :)

I'm posting this from an iBook G3 500mhz with 384mb ram, 8mb vram,15gb hd running 10.3.9 which we've had for over 5 years and has been dropped a few times, closure catch broke, and it has never skipped a beat, my last powerbook was a 667mhz with just over a gig or ram and i used it for everything, including FCP and DVD creation but that was passed on to family member. Now i've ordered a Macbook 2ghz with 120gb hd, 3gb ram so this thing should be a flying machine compared to any other laptop i've ever had, heck, its faster than the G5 i use in work every day!, happy days ahead....

I never knew the macbook could handle more than 2GB RAM?

In regards to the Omni brand RAM, here are a couple of links folks might want to check out before they make a purchase with this company.

I don't work for Omni. I have ordered a number of different sticks from Omni for the past 3 years without ever experiencing any delays nor bad working ram. Too bad for that guy.

Thanks for the ramseeker's website it is indeed the cheapest ram I've found, but I wanted to ask, is there a difference between the Hyperformance and the Optival 1gb sticks??? is the difference worth the $30???

Many thanks...

I don't think so. The difference is mainly latency but I have read it is an imperceptable difference. :)

I've only had mine since friday and my trackpad button is worrying me. If I press it lightly on the top half of it (not actually activating the button), it drops about 1/2 a mm and feels as though it passes a ledge of somekind and makes an annoying click. If I use the bottom half of it it is fine.

The trackpad button on mine is a little strange too. If I press on the top center of it, it works great. It works ok if I press on the right side. It kind of "squeeks" if I press the bottom center and isn't very responsive. If I press the left side it's hard to get it to do anything... It may not be sitting in the case level either, but that could be my imagination as I never looked at it THAT closely to be sure.

I plan on bringing it in to an Apple store one of these days, but since I typically press on the top center anyway it hasn't been a big issue. I thought I'd put a few more hours on it first to see if anything else comes up...

Yeah, seems he's on his 3rd macbook. Of course he could be a troll. Then again, it did take him a week to notice problems!

Anyone else? Perhaps the "user" needs to press it, as in open a lot of programs and get that heat up up up...

They already do. What makes you think bottom of the line $1099 MacBook isn't more?

Here Here. If you tweak the Dell options to be as close as possible to the specs of the cheapest Macbook, it is $1831. And the Macbook has quite a lot more screen "real estate". But I am thinking ictiosapiens was asking if the same specs could be "fit" into a 12.1" package like the Dell - I'm thinking if Dell can do it there's no reason why Apple can't. And eventually they probably will, IMHO. But by base comparison of the hardware specs and inclusions alone, the 1.83 Macbook IS better value for only $1099! :D

And that's not taking into account the value of the OS - because that's relative and more personal...relatively (and of course personally) speaking, I wouldn't even wipe my a** with windows given the choice! :p Sadly I have to use it for work everyday. I far prefer OSX on my G4 at home...

That's exactly what I meant... I hadn't even looked at the price... lol...I just wished apple had given us a choice like this... Graphicswise, and DL dvd writer. This only proves that it can be done, albeit higher price, but I'm sure there's a market for it... Hell, I would buy one today...

ok , can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me, post pictures and explain.

Is it worth getting the Glossy screen for the 17inch? I will be doing prosumer editing, but mostly everyday things like web, itunes, and GAMES Quake, WoW, Civ 4, Fry Cry...

I could go to the compusa store and pick up a stock 17in 120 GB 5400, but i am debating on getting the glossy screen with 100GB 7200 hard drive.

I've seen the screen with no glossy and it looks stunning,

ALSO

I also plan to sell this 17inch come around the AUG/ SEPT Merom update. Would people buy the glossy screen off ebay? or should i wait until my Merom updated to get the glossy screen. I want to make sure I can sell my computer come AUG. I lot of professionals are dissin the glossy screen. Not really sure what to do

Advice anyone?

thanks

There aren't many people dissing the screen after having seen/used it, professionals included. There's a lot of fear and concern, true, but mostly before the fact. Getting the glossy screen is 100% personal preference, but it might help you sell it in a few months--not only is it more popular, but it will also be an obvious way to tell that you're not selling a PowerBook by the pictures.

so far everyone that has purchased a macbook has been delighted with the glossy screen. While it is incredibly reflective in photos and such it is meant for the user and every user so far has been happy with it..i havnt seen one person complain thus far...well maybe one...the dude that took back his macbook 80 times
