Does the Apple logo on the back seems strange looking on the black Macbook. I guess it's from not seeing it in such a way.

They should install a black light in there....that'd be sweet....ok, maybe not.

Is they keyboard larger or significantly different from the MacBook line?

Yes, it's a different look and feel when compared to the MBP. I like the MBP, personally. I like the old USB Apple KB even better.

I personally love it and will be getting a rev B. They look great and I'm sure they'll perform well too. But I will have to see the screen first to make sure it's big enough for me.

I do that already with my G4/933MHz iBook. Use Internet Connect via Bluetooth to any Bluetooth capable mobile phone (I use an SE 750i) and Bob's yer uncle. So what's the problem?

[..]QUOTE]

I agree. That seems to be an option, especially since I have a SE W800i. Maybe I'll check one out and compare it directly to the Thinkpads that I was eying. Still scared of the magnets though. And not sure about the widescreen (I don't even want a TV with that format...). How does that help you with writing texts?

I use scripts from Ross Barkman with my SE V800. They're about half way down the page. Follow his instructions in the "Read me". Don't try to input stuff manually. You'll probably need some of the info here as well.

I need someone to verify for me, I can't get into Apple.com whatsoever right now (good sign I gather that A LOT of people are on there), but it appears that the MacBooks might need paired RAM like the PowerMacs??? I went looking for third party RAM and found a warning about how Apple recommends paired RAM for this product.

Is this true? If so, we just got pigeon holed into having either 512MB, 1GIG, or 2 GIGs of RAM in our new MacBooks. The base model with 512MB of RAM is actually two 256MB RAM Chips according to the Store when I was able to get up there earlier. I was looking to pop one of those out in favor of a single GIG stick to help out with the integrated graphics setup so I wouldn't notice a decline in power.

I expect it costs them less to sell them in pairs...so they are cutting costs taht way. The chipset does support single channel memory automatically when only one stick is installed.

All the options at the online shop show paired RAM ... This should mean something  Better throughput ? but, if you find that Apple Store RAM is expensive you'll have to sell some RAM to upgrade ... I put an extra 512 MB to my iBook (Java Junkie) for a fraction of the cost at Apple's
But my other RAM is soldered, the MacBook will not be?

Pairs Not Necessary - But Two 1GB Sticks Only Cost $144

Not true. No need for paired. Barefeats found only a 4% advantage in being pared. Although you can buy two 1 GB sticks from Omni via ramseeker for only $144. :)

That plus the magnet thing I can't get over.
What is up with your magnet fetish? Mechanical watches have been mostly immune to mag issues since the 50's "The German DIN 8309 defines a mechanical watch as “antimagnetic” when its daily rate isn't changed by more than ± 30 seconds per day after it has been exposed to a magnetic field of 4,800 A/m (Ampère per meter)."

That is way more than any magnet you are apt to come into contact with unless you are 1)operating/having a MRI, 2)Work in a power plant, 3)around other large, extremely powerful electro magnets. Almost no rare earth magnets can produce fields of that strength.

The likelihood that your spiral spring would be magnetized by any magnet you normally come into contact with is not even worth considering.

battery life is regrettable...there may be some cosmetic things about it that not everyone likes...but the rest of your complaints are silly. it's a consumer notebook, it's not going to have 1366x768 HD...it's smart of apple to make a single 13" instead of the two sizes...moreover, the 12" and 14" ibooks had the same resolution so they weren't going to produce two different resolutions anyway. "too damn microsoftish??!!" that's exactly what you'll be getting in a dell...get your dell and begone.

1280x800 is so damn old though, and I think 1366x768 is the perfect resolution for a 13.3" notebook. It doesn't cost a lot more, either. I doubt many would agree with you that one size is a good thing.

Anyone have experience with Kingston RAM? I managed to find (in the Netherlands) 1 GB 667 DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM for E131 each. (they apparently are for the MBP 2 GHz. These would fit the right specifications, correct?

Also, is it easy to install RAM? Because if it is, I may just be able to save myself some money, and buy two of these instead of going for the "measly" upgrade to 1 GB via Apple (that I can actually afford).

I just have to wait for this to show up at CompUSA. Got to cover my purchase in case there's a stuck Red/Green/Blue pixel on my new MacBook. I expect perfection  With CompUSA I can rest assured that I'll get it.

Honest question - are you for real? I've never had to get anything serviced by CompUSA, but the few times I've gone into one for a small purchase, I leave the store feeling totally depressed. My experience: limited merchandise and clueless sales staff.

Do they have some kind of low-cost extended service plan?

Now that is unbelievable. WHERE?

No Time To Put Them Out? What About Time To Just Sell Them?

I would definitely escalate that call to the management.

Yes... i just got out of a business lunch and i think i am going to swing in there and ask to see one...

if i get a "ehm... were a little busy come back tomorrow" HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL!

1280 x 800 Is The World's #1 Most Popular Resolution & Most Made Resolution

You are out of touch with reality. 1280 x 800 is the #1 most popular resolution and being made more than any other dimension. Last iBooks were 1024 x 768. This is a Giant Leap forward. HIGHER is BETTER. 1280 is wide enough. :D

After seeing it this morning, and being 1, amazed, 2, jaded, I look at it now...and go wow. The black iBook reminds me of my old dell laptop, but classier. I'm gonna wait until WWDC 07 and snag one when they update around that time...or something like that. I just hope my current machine lasts that long:eek:

P.S. Does anyone know how well this thing will handle Guild Wars under XP?

Pissed off!

Just been on the line to the Apple man

1. AppleCare is now again £15x whatever it was before, there is a technical glitch on the Apple site under H/E. Also the contract of cheaper AppleCare (which was around £60) has also been scrapped!

2. Interest free credit is available to those in full time work? Under a STUDENT page what a ridiculous thing to put? That is the most absurd offer from Apple I have ever seen. Why put 6 months int free credit under a section for H/E students? (Oh sorry apparently if you have a rich daddy, it works out okay:p so he takes the responsiblity of the H/E credit).. What a joke!

Score one to dr_lha, and your credibility has increased with the news of GMA 950 in the MacBook. I am looking forward to the 965, but I don't think this will be as bad as so many people made it out to be.
Cheers, but I was just taking an educated guess rather than having any inside info. ;)

Black Mighty Mouse

I'm wondering. Will Apple release a black version of the Mighty Mouse to match the top MacBook?

What about its Remote? Anyone knows if it's black?

Very Nice. I am a little dissapointed in apple's dicision to make the black 200 dollars more. Thats way to "Microsofty."

Microsoft releases laptops in two color schemes and charges more for the non-standard one that many people will like?

I must have forgot about that.

I just called them and they are selling MacBooks to anyone who enters. They just don't have time to put any display units out - probably because they can sell all they have. So just a lookie loo to see one might not happen. But if you're ready to buy one, no problem.

Scared of magnets.....Really.

Widescreen doesn't do much for typing. But it does give you more real estate to play with for spreadsheets or to have palettes be out of the way in Photoshop or Word. Why don't you want a TV with that format? You haven't said anything yet that makes sense.

So about how long before these are in CompUSA? I've already called the CompUSA in Tallahassee and they had no clue what I was talking about. They thought I was talking about the MBP, but I guess that's expected since this machine is so new. But does anyone know about how long it usually takes? I'm getting the White 2.0 one and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Well, my local CompUSA still has a single core 1.8GHz PowerMac on display and their iMacs were all G5s up to the middle of March.

They finally got MBPs on display about a month ago.
