They should install a black light in there....that'd be sweet....ok, maybe not.

I agree. That seems to be an option, especially since I have a SE W800i. Maybe I'll check one out and compare it directly to the Thinkpads that I was eying. Still scared of the magnets though. And not sure about the widescreen (I don't even want a TV with that format...). How does that help you with writing texts?
I use scripts from Ross Barkman with my SE V800. They're about half way down the page. Follow his instructions in the "Read me". Don't try to input stuff manually. You'll probably need some of the info here as well.

I went looking for third party RAM and found a warning about how Apple recommends paired RAM for this product.
Is this true? If so, we just got pigeon holed into having either 512MB, 1GIG, or 2 GIGs of RAM in our new MacBooks. The base model with 512MB of RAM is actually two 256MB RAM Chips according to the Store when I was able to get up there earlier. I was looking to pop one of those out in favor of a single GIG stick to help out with the integrated graphics setup so I wouldn't notice a decline in power.

Not true. No need for paired. Barefeats found only a 4% advantage in being pared. Although you can buy two 1 GB sticks from Omni via ramseeker for only $144.KindredMAC said:I need someone to verify for me, I can't get into Apple.com whatsoever right now (good sign I gather that A LOT of people are on there), but it appears that the MacBooks might need paired RAM like the PowerMacs??? What is up with your magnet fetish? Mechanical watches have been mostly immune to mag issues since the 50's "The German DIN 8309 defines a mechanical watch as antimagnetic when its daily rate isn't changed by more than ± 30 seconds per day after it has been exposed to a magnetic field of 4,800 A/m (Ampère per meter)."wannabeconvert said:That plus the magnet thing I can't get over.
kugino said:battery life is regrettable...there may be some cosmetic things about it that not everyone likes...but the rest of your complaints are silly. it's a consumer notebook, it's not going to have 1366x768 HD...it's smart of apple to make a single 13" instead of the two sizes...moreover, the 12" and 14" ibooks had the same resolution so they weren't going to produce two different resolutions anyway. "too damn microsoftish??!!" that's exactly what you'll be getting in a dell...get your dell and begone.

I would definitely escalate that call to the management.![]()
You are out of touch with reality. 1280 x 800 is the #1 most popular resolution and being made more than any other dimension. Last iBooks were 1024 x 768. This is a Giant Leap forward. HIGHER is BETTER. 1280 is wide enough.Central2 said:1280x800 is so damn old though, and I think 1366x768 is the perfect resolution for a 13.3" notebook. It doesn't cost a lot more, either. I doubt many would agree with you that one size is a good thing.

I just called them and they are selling MacBooks to anyone who enters. They just don't have time to put any display units out - probably because they can sell all they have. So just a lookie loo to see one might not happen. But if you're ready to buy one, no problem.Electro Funk said:Yes... i just got out of a business lunch and i think i am going to swing in there and ask to see one...

Well, my local CompUSA still has a single core 1.8GHz PowerMac on display and their iMacs were all G5s up to the middle of March.Frozone said:So about how long before these are in CompUSA? I've already called the CompUSA in Tallahassee and they had no clue what I was talking about. They thought I was talking about the MBP, but I guess that's expected since this machine is so new. But does anyone know about how long it usually takes? I'm getting the White 2.0 one and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
