MBP Price drops and upgrades

Looks like the MBP have also benefitted today. Slight processor upgrades and price reductions (in Canada anyway).

I just went to Apple.com before coming here, and when the page loaded, my heart missed one beat... Damn I´m happy, too bad that you wont get it in black in cheaper models... I love it already.

I was hoping the Magsafe would be compatible with both MacBook (wife's getting one) and my MBP. But they have different power ratings so I guess that's out, bummer. :( But 6 hour battery life! She's going to love it. :)

that is my thing, it only has an 80GB HDD as extra on it from what i can tell.

Why isn 't the black iPods more if the black macbook is more

Because you can go to college and show your roomies the "special" MacBook and get all the chicks ;)

is that 200 $ for 20 GB more ???

Nope... it's disguised as that, but its really for getting it in black. And you know what? People who really want their Macbook in black will pay up the extra money no matter how much we complain in these forums. Apple created a huge sex appeal with that black notebook, and sex pays.

I'm not whining nor complaining (I've got plenty of greenbacks, thank you) -- but I think the $150 difference for a paint job is a little much. And if it's not a "little much", you have to ask WHY? It only cost $50 to upgrade a white one to the same specs so why the extra flow for a black one? I think it would've been a great gesture to offer it without a price hike. They don't hike up the iPod for a black one..

It's not just $200 extra for the black. I wanted the lower end $1099 one in black. If I want to get a black one that means I have to pay $400 extra. Ok, so I get a higher spec, but it's a higher spec I don't need!

I'm in shock!

Very unusual, considering integrated graphics and the glossy screens.

6 Hours

In the comparision chart the MB is sporting a 6 hour battery life, no backlit keyboard though, and a little thicker than the MBPs

I am so excited by this announcement a replacement for the ibooks and 12" powerbooks

educational discount

$1,049.00
$1,199.00
1,399.00

i like how i went from post #20 to 70 in a couple minutes... it's only 6am... gee wiz east coasters....

Well I was planning on going downtown to Chicago tomorrow so hopefully they have these in the stores. I really like the new design but I'm not thrilled on the black by any means....maybe my opinion will change once I see one in person.

The Macbook looks sweet.

I also noticed that in the Finnish applestore the prices of the MBP's have dropped and the 15" models start with a 2.0Ghz core duo.

I'm so not happy with the Intel GMA, it's a stupid Intel curse! It's a downgrade from the previous iBook, in almost every manner.

Very Nice

Very Nice. I am a little dissapointed in apple's dicision to make the black 200 dollars more. Thats way to "Microsofty."

This makes me very, very happy.

Oh, the MacBook is nice and everything, but now we can FINALLY shut up about the "Rumored" MacBook. It's out, it's for sale. Now either buy it or don't, but please, NO MORE RUMORS!

A lot of computer for the money. It's like a mini-intel-powerbook. The new 12" powerbook.

The 12" powerbook was like an aluminium ibook. Now they don't call it pro anymore, and it's black instead of aluminum.
.

I agree, it's obvious to me that the black model is aimed at 12" powerbook users who want to upgrade, but don't want the consumer model. The black is a bit more 'grown up' than white you might say.

I love my 12" PB but am not interested in either of these new notebooks unless I see just what material they are made of. A £1000 laptop that scratches everytime you touch it isn't very appealing.

Will these show up in stores immediately or are they just going to be available direct for a while?

Anyone know about Ram upgrades? I just say on dealsea, a 1gig notebook chip for $88. That'd give you 1.25gigs for less than the price of 1gig on the apple site.

I guess my Thinkpad does have sex appeal after all, who knew?!

super cool!

I love the new look!

Aperture will run fine on these, I tested it on the mac mini and it works just fine with the version check removal.

I hope the glossy screen is good for photo editing.
gigiabit ethernet is nice
optical audio is just perfect!

overal not dissapointed at all

Extended Desktop and Video Mirroring Included

Is that what you're looking for?

Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 x 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
Yes sir. Thank you very much. Thus endeth the era of Macs without Spanning or Extended Desktop capability.

This is way more like a Junior PowerBook than it is a Senior iBook. It has all the features of the 15" Powerbook less Expresscard/34, Dual DVI 30" Monitor Support and of course a lower resolution screen but 800 pixels high which I was advocating here. It represents a tremendous value for the sub $2k market and the 13" size.

I know I have been advocating waiting for Merom. But meanwhile, this is a great new Mac for those who need one right away and/or don't want to wait any longer. I do think the premium price for Black is unwarranted. Does it really cost $150 more to make it that color?   :(
