No. While superb for many tasks, the Macbook will play games like a dog that's been fed Novocaine soup. Someone posted some benchmarks earlier, and it struggles to get 20FPS in Half Life 2, which is a pretty well built engine, and I wouldnt expect much better from World OF Warcraft
Considering WoW has much lower spec requirements, I imaging it will run better than that.

What about those of us who have to log this brick around every day? The weight specs on this machine are a joke!

Stop whining. I bet you a great deal of the weight is because of the battery. If you didn't whine about the weight you would whine about it not having a long enough battery life. Jesus.

so for apple you are saying the cosmetics is what drives their pricing, not specs?

"Drives" may be too strong a word, but it does play into it, certainly. Anyone who has been familiar with Apple over the years knows that industrial design is a major selling point for Apple products. The design definitely "drives" some Mac users to be pompous--and that could play into the pricing, so maybe you're right! ;)

A company that employs someone like Jonathan Ive has to take its design seriously.

Well, these look pretty sexy to me, I think my roomie will be buying one, and maybe I can convince my mom to get one too (her iBook G3 needs an upgrade :) ) At least they're starting off with 512 ram, it'd be cool if they'd just put one 512 card in there though. And glossy? Is that what everyone's wondering about right now? Yeah, me too. I hate those laptops that are all shiny and fingerprinty like that, but we'll see I guess, they make it look pretty cool online.

But that wasn't for the Macbook, just the chipset. We don't know if the raw power of the Core Duo allows you to push through the limitation of the GPU.

Well it does do BootCamp. You can judge its ability based on how well we can run WoW.

jxwolf, I am offering a virtual cookie if you can give a readout of what graphics settings you manage to push on WoW and the frame rate it does it at :)

That might well settle all this stuff about the integrated graphics!

Ok.

Hmm I really want to have a MacBook, but the graphics, is it worth it is the question? I will probably play some games, but I think if you want to play more advanced games you have to have a MacBook Pro or iMac.

This is cool, the processor is great! Haha we thought it would get a 1.67 ghZ processor, ^^

The white one with bigger harddrive or the black one? Which is the best buy?

So whos in favor of the glossy screen? I like it, but i dont want to have a glare on my screen, its pretty sweet for games though, my friend's pc laptop has a glossy screen.

Question for the Forum... 1.83 vs 2.0

Within the next month, I'll buy some version of the new MacBook. I was hoping some of you could give your two cents on which you'd get between the 1.83 and 2.0 white versions.

I'm either between the 1.83 version, 1 GB ram, 80 HD for $1,249 or the 2.0 version, 1 GB ram, 60 GB drive for $1,399. (The SuperDrive is a non-factor for me, but I'm it could be very handy a year or two from now)

I like the idea of saving a few hundred dollars after taxes with the 1.83 (I really didn't want to spend more than $1,400) but the 2.0 is really tempting.

Any thoughts? Should I spring for the 2.0? Thanks in advance.

The biggest complaint is about the integrated graphics, and I don't play games. It should be perfect for me! Definately getting one. The local Apple Store should have them tomorrow morning, she said.

Finally.
But pretty nice. Soooo pleased on the Core Duo. :)
And the price is eh.... they better release a more low-end one in the near future w/ possibly a 12" screen?? A lot of people aren't willing to pay more that $1000 for a laptop.

The second one, but depending on your economy. You can always buy a bigger harddrive later and probably for a better price than from Apple.

Glossy screen gets a thumbs down here. Although I haven't seen it in person yet my inital reaction is not in favor.:(

Then they deserve to have a piece of crap. Send them over to Dell, I'm sure they'll writhe in agony when they realize that a $500 Laptop is not really so wonderful when you get down to it.

Black MacBook

I hope the exterior of the black Mac Book does not scratch as easily as the black Nano. Maintaining the black experior is difficult as it shows scratches more prominantly. Is that plastic same as the one current iBook sports?

Window to Mac File migration Issues

So i'm thinking about one of these. But if i use windows, on the MB for ADobe work, and migrate the files to my G5, will there be an issue? Does it work?

Does Boot Camp work on MacBook and which Windows games can we expect to play?
Since boot camp works on the Minis, that's a definite yes ... and anything released 2003 and earlier or not dependent on 3D graphics.

For instance, I would expect the Civ games, SimCity, MoH:AA and AoE to run ok (the only games I have).

It is supposed to be matte finish. Not as glossy as the iPods or the white iBook/Macbook.

True. But the reason I am whining is because I believe Apple could and should provide the same kind of choice that other manufacturers, like Lenovo and Sony provide. (i.e. you can buy a heavier battery and have 8-hours battery life, but you can leave your optical drive at home and hence get a notebook that weighs less than 4 pounds).

It doesn't struggle to get 20 FPS, it gets 20 FPS and that's on highest quality. It does much, much better on medium quality. So while I wouldn't recommend it to a gamer, it's not bad for someone who occasionally wants to play a game.

dude i can like see a reflection on that pic from the " glossy " screen .
im not too excited about this .

I dont know how i feel about the glossy screen either. Ive never had a laptop with a glossy screen. How does it perform outside? It may be a real headache in the sun. Any thoughts and opinions on the screen?
