Yar! Double post.
Also, those bitching about potential WOW performance should talk to my friend, Nik. He plays on a G3 iBook. (3-8fps!)

I would be curious to know as well... Is WoW playable on your Macbook? By playable I dont mean the most stunning graphics, just not frustratingly skippy at a descent resolution and such. Thanks for the input jxwolf, as I really cant afford a MBP but i would like knowing that I have the option to play the occasional WoW game and not get frustrated.

Has anyone installed Final Cut Express on their Macbook yet? How about Aperature with the hack? Any reports?

In case some of you missed my post several pages back:

Upgrading the hard drive in the MacBook is as easy as installing the RAM.

When you remove the battery and the cover over the memory/HD, you simply pull the white tab attached to the drive caddy and the hard drive slides right out through the battery compartment (since it is SATA, no cables or nothing). Then you just remove the four T-8 screws of the drive caddy, put the drive caddy on your new HD, and then slide your new drive right in. Easy as pie...

I'm willing to bet every single person here knocking the glossy screen has never used one. Yes, the things will produce more glare when viewing from an angle and/or when the computer is off, but when you are using it, so far it appears to produce an excellent image. According to what I have read, the glossy screen makes images brighter and better looking. I don't see any problem with mine so far. So ... don't knock it until you have tried it!!!

And for everyone whining about integrated graphics, sure, a Radeon X1600 would have been nice, but know that you are getting longer battery life AND less heat with the integrated graphics. (and lower price) Just be sure to put 2GB in your computer and integrated graphics shouldn't be an issue (not from Apple, I got 2GB for $140 -- Apple wants $500 plus they keep your 2 x 256MB!)

Thanks! I have a dell 700m glossy screen, now problem at all! Much clear and brighter! Do you know the cpu is soldered or socketed?

That is why I'm bringing a crapload of cash.
>_>

cheers jxwolf, very helpful comments.

Just how bad does the glossy white ibook scratch? Never had one myself...

Is it just if you don't look after it, or unavoidable?

finally Apple has delivered the goods!

I will have to go and check one of these out. Black looks pretty sexy I reakon!! A little disappointed about the integrated graphics though..

I don't know why people want black ones. Is white Apple's classic color? Black should be dell and IBM's.

I just got back from the apple store and they let me play around with one of the new black macbooks. The keyboard feels 100 times better than my current ibook. Also the key holes are actually integrated into the case so theres no more quick removal of the keyboard. However it looks as though it will be harder for dirt and such to slip down through the keyboard. The new macbook is a lot thinner. More like a MBP as far as thickness goes. It looks very nice. The screen is glossy but it looks pretty good. It is much brighter. I was using it in doors so im still not sure how the gloss will effect the viewing outside. The latch is amazing! It works perfect and sits nicely. The internal magnets have a firm pull but the more i played with this new latch the more i loved it. It also didnt feel much heavier (if any at all) than my current ibook. ::walks back into cave::

Anyone noticed any whine or strange sound? Any screen problem? Any bug of any kind?
No bugs here. No whine. I'm installing software on a 7200rpm drive, so all I hear right now is the optical drive, and it is all very quiet. When the air conditioning runs in my building, I can't even hear it.

I posted previously it is soldered -- I didn't completely remove the keyboard but when I lifted the left side I didn't see a socket.

I have one question for you. How far back does the screen tilt? 125 or 135 degress? You can print out a protractor to find out if you dont have one.

It appears to be 135 degrees. (note: I am displaying a protractor pdf full-screen on my other laptop to compare!) It certainly is more than 125 deg. Whether it is 130 or 135 I can't quite tell, but it appears closer to 135.

Merom 64-Bit

I apologize if this was covered in the previous 50 pages of posts.

Does anyone think Apple will move quickly to the Merom processors when they are released or will Apple release new product lines for the 64-bit processors?

I'd like to wait for the 64-bit with Vista coming (someday) since I need dual-booting.

Any thoughts on that?

Exciting news about the MacBook - this is the laptop I've been waiting for to chunk my Dell.

Thanks guys;

That Link Don't Work. :(

Argh. What a day for zooomr to be down. And to think they want to be the next Flickr. Downtime is a real dagger for any website trying to make it.

I just picked up a white 2 GHz model at the Eastview Mall in Rochester, New York. I have not opened it yet (I'm waiting for someone to post World of Warcraft numbers before I do), but I'll give my impressions of the floor models that I messed with at the Apple Store:

BOTH THE BLACK AND THE WHITE MODELS I TESTED IN THE STORE HAVE THE "PROCESSOR WHINE", LIKE THE MACBOOK PROS -- BUT IT IS NOT NEARLY AS LOUD. I even convinced them to let me bring one into their back room with the doors closed, to get a better idea. The sound goes away when you open PhotoBooth and comes back as soon as you exit it. Again, it's NOT as loud as the Macbook Pro whine (My partner owns one, so I know exactly what it sounds like). Just thought I'd throw that out there since I hadn't seen it posted yet.

Other than that bit of nitpicking, it seems like a decent machine!

Now, when someone posts WoW benchmarks, I'll decide whether or not I want to keep it. :)

I kinda let out a moan about the integrated graphics, but it's not such a big deal to me since I'm not really a gamer. I just want a computer that's not rebellious and doesn't pick random (often inopportune) times to get lazy and tell me "hey, f**k off!" like my crappy Dell laptop.

I'm gonna get a white one. I never really liked the black iPods either, because white (to me, at least) just signifies "Apple". Besides, the white/aluminum is what sets Apple apart from PC laptops, and making a black one makes it look like a IBM unless you look closely and see the Apple logo. And what's up with paying extra for black anyways? The 2GHz white MacBook with an 80GB HD costs $1349, and the 2GHz black MacBook costs $1499. Is there something extra the black MacBook has (besides being black) that we don't know about? Or is it just that black coloring costs more than white?

Mine doesn't whine? It's practically silent! I wouldn't hold out much hope for WoW benchmarks. Playing it on my maxed out mini with 2gb of ram wasn't much to shout home about.

IMO the black one looks ALOT cleaner and crisper than the white
