superdrive, godwilling.

bluray, i just cant see apple making much of an upgrade to a media that steve beleives is on its deathmarch.

I cant remember where I read this but apparantly some people are thinking optical media could be dead within 5 years. I don't know if this statement holds any merit, but i can see it happening as things such as file transfers become more of the norm. Mayb not 5 years, but it deffinatly will phase out in the next 10-15 years.

Optical media has a very long way before it can become extinct. IMO DVDs still have 5 more years of life left in them. Blurays will start seeing life only after 2 more years.

Different strokes for different folks i guess.

I just timed my HP dv6000t with Vista. 3-4 seconds from sleep to being able to use the desktop. Something's wrong with your laptop.

Well, I can achieve that too when I shut down all applications before putting my Vista notebook to sleep. The problem is that it then takes forever to load Outlook...

Actually, Picasa, Win DVD Maker, and Firefox were open when I closed the lid.

They might on a Tablet-Laptop MacBook Touch. :)

I for some reason think that the next MacBooks will be Laptop-Tablet hybrids (changes from laptop to tablet if you like).

New MacBooks this month is a very real possibility.

I found this thread over on TheiPhoneBlog.com started by a forum member who obviously has inside information...

http://forum.theiphoneblog.com/future-apple-devices/166573-september-new-ipods-macbooks.html

He was spot on about the iPods. I have no doubt he is also right about the new MacBooks.

Everyone get your credit cards ready.
You do know that both of those rumors were ran at blogs like Engadget & Gizmodo, and the picture is from Kevin Rose (Digg founder)...

Either new MacBooks tomorrow or September 23rd. I still believe we will see them this month.

lol i like how no matter what its always a matter of weeks between the hopeful release dates

Good for you! Now, let's assume something is wrong with my notebook and it has nothing to do with Vista: What should I do so that an expert can look at my hardware? Mail it to Sony? No thanks, I have work to do. Go to Geek Squad or another place? Yes! Actually no, I did that already and they had no clue why waking up from sleep takes that long even though their hardware tests found nothing wrong with the machine itself.

By the way, Geek Squad was very fair. Since they could not fix the problem, they did not charge for their time testing and trying.

It depends, it it on sleep or hibernate?

I predict that if they do consolidate the line, which makes sense, and eliminate the pro moniker while keeping the feature specs relatively the same... there will be endless complaining here about how "Apple has finally abandoned the film, graphic, photo, and music professionals that built their company" even though nothing will have really changed.

I also think this new "aggressive" pricing will simply be the elimination of the education discount, and taking everything down to that level anyways. Almost everybody I know manages to scam a student discount, they might as well reap the benefits of a perceived lower price point.

if your first statement does come true, it will only show that those users are more interested in a name or image than reality. Elitist?

I hope it's like a thick MacBook Air. With little speakers to the left and right of the keyboard! And the power button is not covering the speaker.

I hope it doesn't have an optical drive. What good are they anyway. I carry my optical drive everywhere ('cause I have to), and I think I've used it once in the past two years... to install Leopard.

i cant tell if that was dripping with sarcasm, but i believe the guy u quoted was talking about the looks/theme of the device...
