Lots of eBay sellers will.

Probably, but most stores won't. It's not impossible, but it's too inconvenient for them - dealing with all those different taxes would raise their costs for a relatively few new customers. And maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm not buying over $1k laptop on eBay or similar site.

Edit:

Didn't notice your other post, sorry.

If you're talking about buying it directly from the Apple store, then no, you can't get it shipped to Croatia. But eBay sellers always have the latest thing up as soon as the store does, and lots of them will ship internationally. However, this is simply not worthwhile. The inherent risks of eBay aside, you'll still end up paying about 25% on top of the US price because of VAT and customs duties.

25% is still far better than over 65% (high-end MacBook Air's price difference between US and the lowest I've seen it for in Poland).

Patientily awaiting the new releases....however, I really don't need one seeing as I just got a new one a week ago (and for a steal!) ;)

I agree about the scroll, I used my friend's MacBook for a while and next day caught myself trying to do this on some PC laptop. Incredibly addictive ;).

Yesterday I was reading an actual paper newspaper (how quaint!) and caught myself glancing at the upper-right corner to see what time is was.

I've also frequently tried to press command-F on a book or even on a single piece of paper.

Maybe Apple planned a formal MacBook and MacBook Pro launch event on October 14th with new form factors, new colors and improved specifications and then did the same thing with the iPod where everybody not only yawned, but told Apple to not waste their time with such fluff.

So they scrapped those plans and will just toss it into the channel tomorrow, unannounced. :p
Serves you right, you whiners. That's what you get.

:D

Oct 1 is a Wednesday, that's not happening.
There have been Wednesday updates, but they're rare.

The shipper doesn't pay the taxes, so it's no different to them. The recipient in the foreign country receives a notice in their mailbox that a package is waiting for them, and they then have to pay the VAT and duty when they go to pick it up.

I could be wrong about the 25%. I know it's about that amount (maybe a bit more) in Slovenia, but each country is different. Yes, it's still cheaper in some cases, which is why people do it.

They'd have to release them very soon, they would be losing out on sales if there is not much stock available.

My mom is traveling to the US the October 1st and I have no chances at all to buy the "new" MacBook´s. Will the current ones handle Snow Leopard well? What I sacrifice with not buying the new ones? Can you recommend a good config?

Thank you very much.

( I am waiting for make the switch from already 3 years and this is my chance to get a :apple:Mac )

Both the new and old will handle Snow Leopard. We can't be sure what you would be missing but the old models are still good but it might be worth the wait? Ok that wasn't much help. But either way you go, you will get a good deal but it might be worth it to wait till tomorrow or a week?

supposedly snow leopard will be less taxing on system specs. Hopefully apple wont use this as an excuse not to do updates that are worth it.

You have help me a lot indeed. I just want to switch now from this god**** Windows Vista s**t PC and get a Mac for iWork, iLife, browsing the web and stuff.

I was changing the covers of my iTunes library and apparently it was too much for my PC to handle that rebooted itself without any questions. Do you get my frustration?

Oh no. Oh no. I can see it coming now.

September/October 2008: MacBook Pro (2.53/2.8 GHz) and MacBook (2.27/2.4 GHz) redesign and spec bump.
April 2009: 133 MHz speed bump only.
February 2010: Nehalem update, spec bump.

:mad::rolleyes:

Ok, so if there were updates tomorrow, In how many hours from now would it be. When does the Apple store update? I still can't work out the time conversion :(

They would be updated on the Apple website in approximately 16 hours.

the thing that worries me is that deal (someone has to fill it in for me cuz i cant remember) that ends sept 30 or oct 30 (again i cant remember specifics)

It just seems like bad business sense to release things in the middle of a sale, but then again it doesnt make sense to NOT have stock at any time.

Yet for some reason they don't want to deliver electronics to most countries. Also many if not all European countries have value limits below which you can order items tax-free (very low limits). I don't know if some products are excluded from this rule, either that or they don't really care about them - for example they don't seem to tax books, no matter their value.

There's no import duty on laptops. There's only VAT, depending on the country it's being shipped to. It's usually around 20% (22% in Poland). EU has already regulations about which items are subject to higher and which to lower VAT, maybe they'll regulate the VAT itself as well. That'd certainly help in their quest for "free circulation of goods within EU". My next computer will likely come from UK (no taxation within EU).

Real problem with way too high prices of Apple products in some countries is not VAT - UK prices minus VAT (17.5%) are similar to those in US, for example. It's that since there's no way to buy directly from Apple in some countries - as in Apple Store or Apple Online Store - resellers can easily drive up the price another 30% or so there (as long as all of them keep similar prices, and they do).

In the UK PC World have run out of certain Macbook models, and John Lewis' stock is either out, or very low (they have a stock counter on their website), with most models having only 3-5 models in stock.
