I could be wrong about the 25%. I know it's about that amount (maybe a bit more) in Slovenia, but each country is different. Yes, it's still cheaper in some cases, which is why people do it.

Maybe I could be totally wrong about this, but what do other Europeans think about buying in the UK? The pound is pretty weak against the euro, but Apples prices still refer to an exchange rate of 1:1.5
So the Macbook is
699 Pounds = 873 Euro (1:1.25)
and that is even cheaper as in the States (well, import wise)
1099$ = 747.62 + 25% taxes (vat + import) = 934 Euro
(all for the smallest configuration)

And while you travel back home from the UK you can stop for example at Dixons (in every major airport, e.g. Stanstedt, Ryanairs favorite) and buy a Macbook without VAT. The medium configuration goes for 705 Pounds, instead of 829, thats 881 Euro. But any other shop that sells tax free there would do anyway.
Do I get something wrong in this calculation?

It's looking good!

www.currys.co.uk

www.dixons.co.uk

Both out of stock of all Macbooks and MB Pro's.

Surely Apple won't wait too long, or they'll just be losing potential sales.

Also, if theres any students here after microsoft software - check out www.software4students.co.uk - Full MS Office for mac, 2008 edition for £35 instead of the £379 retail!

Wow, thanks! That's brilliant! I'm planning to switch from my almost-4-year-old Windows laptop to a Macbook as soon as the new ones come out and will be getting Office for it....you've just saved me around 50 quid! :)

Thank you!

Most europeans (other than the ones on the british isles) don't use a british keyboard :p

october 30th are u sure its not september 30th or october 14th?

Ops, I wanted to say September 30: it's Tuesday and they have enough time to invite press/bloggers for a dedicated event. With many shop out of stock, I don't think they'll wait mid-October (I still hope a silent surprise tomorrow, but it's just a hope).

Dixon's Tax Free is technically not the same as Dixon's, their offer differs and so do prices. They're on UK airports, true, but there's no duty free zone there anymore when you're going to another EU country. However, as far as I know, they sell for the same prices as if it was tax-free, but they still pay VAT referring to that lower price. So "any other shop" doesn't really work, since they're simply dropping the price - unless you're leaving EU. Also they offer very few models.

BTW there're no import taxes on notebooks, only VAT and that's 17.5% in UK.

That being said, my Mac will likely come from DTF at Gatwick, if they'll be selling it AND selling it with US keyboard :).

I hate it, but since Apple offers US keyboard in UK online store, I hope it's possible to get that one - you've to pre-order your notebook anyway.

I hope we see invites tomorrow or possibly another scenario I thought: They might be up in the Apple store tomorrow but wont ship until next week?

hopefully, at least let us know when the event is, so i dont have to check macrumors every hour =P

any one have any ideas for the specs of the new laptops

:apple:

That is pretty hard to tell. What HDD could it be? How much RAM could be put in to still have the balance between aggressive pricing and some margin. Will Apple have another port or two vanish? I really don't know but one thing is for sure. It will be a G5!

I still think they might just silently integrate into the Apple store (Hopefully tomorrow). One would have thought when macbooks were released that they would have been worthy of an event, but they weren't. Maybe it will just be something in the Apple store "Macbooks and Macbookpros redesigned" or something as such

I think that if the new MacBooks come tomorrow, there is going to be a new MacRumours rumour: "New MacBooks tomorrow?" or something like that later in time from now.

Thats true! I just didn't want it to sound like advertisement ;) Surprisingly the Apple store in the UK also offers french keyboards (besides UK + US ones) as a configuration option, though that might be not the best option...

But before we get too much offtopic, my main question was in this case, does anybody believe that they are going to adapt the UK prices with the new models? In that case getting an old one would make sense...

Hello everyone!

(my first post :D and i am checking this forums since the first rumors came out -> waiting to buy my first mac(book))

my thoughts which flashed across my mind
...maybe releasing it tomorrow makes sense...if the consider all the debates about the Google Android as an "iPhone killer" which should be released tomorrow (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/568035/)...so it would make sense to release the new macs tomorrow too and try to owershadow the GPhone releason...maybe apple did not want to announce the release date and event because they did not know exactly when Gphone would be released...

crossing my fingers;)

sorry, but i do not think they will do that (i can be sure that not here in Slovenia)

:apple:
Maybe...
  • Similar pricepoints
  • Case redesigns as rumored
  • 2.27/2.4 GHz MacBook, 2.53/2.8 GHz MacBook Pro
  • 16:9 displays (14" 1366*768 MacBook, 16" 1600*900 and 18" 1920*1080 MacBook Pro)
  • NVIDIA chipset, possible bus/RAM speed differences between the MacBook and MacBook Pro (1333/1067 MHz?)
  • Integrated GPU for the MacBook, low-end or lower-midrange (9300M/9500M?) GPU for low-end MacBook Pro, midrange GPU (9500M/96x0M?) for the other MacBook Pros), similar VRAM
  • HDD bump, not too big, but a bump nontheless
  • 2 GB RAM and SuperDrive standard across all models (except for a really cheap MacBook)
  • Two MacBook models (current MacBooks would be two except for the black version which is basically the midrange one with a bigger HD) at $1199/$1499, and a really cheap one for <$1000.
  • Three MacBook Pro models, two 15", one 17"
  • MacBook goes sub-1", MacBook Pro gets a little bit thinner
And what I think is on the unrealistic side:
  • Thick MacBook Pro, 20" MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro with *7**, *8** GPU, etc.
  • Blu-ray
  • Big price drops
  • Extreme CPU
  • Quad-core CPU
  • 13"/14" MacBook Pro
  • 15"/16" MacBook
  • MacBook with discrete GPU
  • MacBook Pro with integrated GPU :)p)

I think that if the new MacBooks come tomorrow, there is going to be a new MacRumours rumour: "New MacBooks tomorrow?" or something like that later in time from now.
Precisely.

Pa sej ne morem verjet :D Lp tut tebi!;)

and in EU we can expect the same 1:1 ($:€) rating as before...sadly

shouldnt u guys be getting stuff dirt cheap with the state the US economy is in?
or is there some type of tariffs in place?

Ill admit Im not strong on economics. (mayb i should run for president?:p)

Try ordering a german, swedish, french, norwegian, or danish keyboard on the UK store. :p

not really, bacause as i allready pointed out the prices are mostly converted 1:1 which is a big loss...and orders from outside EU get price+shipping+VAT(20%) and our keyboard is a lot different than the US is...
