I'm posting from a G4 PowerBook I bought in March of 2004; it's my only (and primary) computer. I REALLY need a new laptop!

Ha! I got you beat - I'm posting from a 12" G4 Powerbook that I bought in May of 2003. :D

My Powerbook is my only and primary computer. So I really need a new laptop too. But on the other hand, as I've waited so long, I can wait a little longer (well atleast until October 14th) for a new MacBook that is not made of plastic and has a better integrated GPU.

it better not be tomorrow, I got sick of waiting and just bought a MBP,

Hasnt shipped yet so will cancel the order if one does come out tomorrow :p

The only dates I can see for new MBP's is October 14th and MWSF

September 23rd is to soon after the iPod event, I guess Apple will keep the new nano pics on there home page for a while.

I am waiting until October 14th, then I just may end up buying :( I however, for the life of me cannot see them waiting until Jan 09. It would be the worst business move in history

Well Oct 14 is by no means the last opportunity before MW. Macbooks were updated in November in 2007 and in 2006.

it doesnt make sense that their shippin out MB this early.....IMO i dont think they put much into it then, and aluminum wont help wifi connectivity....

Is there any indications or rumors regarding the new MBP suggesting that there will be higher screen resolution on the 15.4" (if they will keep 16:10 aspect ratio of course)?

Thinking about buying a MBP soon cause i can't stand the wait. I've been told since july that i should wait but the new ones never seem to arrive. I like the design of the current MBP and the spec. is fine with me, don't really need much more. The only thing that really keeps me from buying right now is the screen resolution on the 15.4". I want 1680 x 1050 and if there is a chance that the new one comes with a higher resolution than 1400 x 900 i will wait

so...does anyone know or have heard anything about this. Really don't care about blu-ray, speed bumps, design or anything else everyones talking about...

Well to be fair, this whole thread is off the assumption that they have actually started shipping them, or that they did when that rumor came out.

Unfortunatly that rumor only has one source, and it has spewed forth as the basis of many other rumors.

But it has been since Feb since the last MB update (I think). That would be nearly a year since an update, not a good move on Apples part. Plus stocks are running low in parts of the US and UK, so they would be losing $$$ too.

we are sulking.

That or we are retreating into that 6 day coma between tuesdays we call "the rest of the week";)

I was up late farting around here, that's for sure... And I'm tired and sad today. I'm one of those people who can't wait much longer to purchase (I have a trip coming up over Columbus Day weekend and a major deliverable on the 15th), and I'm going to be furious if something happens to be released right after I'm forced to buy. I'll also be pissed that I didn't just buy earlier if that ends up happening. But them's the breaks, I guess. Right? *sigh*

As a soon-to-be Mac switcher, I've been checking this thread daily. No big PC complaints, I'm just excited to have a laptop that doesn't have flashing LED indicators or random designs painted on it.

One thing I've heard a lot is to wait a while before buying a new mac model because of production issues with initial releases. Is this just hearsay? I've got to buy a laptop in the next few weeks, so I'm just hoping the new macbook won't have a loud fan or random shutdowns. Oh yeah, is the return process for macbooks fairly painless?

Well i think apple has a bit of a problem when releasing something radically new, a redesign really shouldnt have many problems.

I would be wary of buying the first version of any new hardware architecture, Mac or anything else. But the updated Macbooks we're likely to see sometime in the next few weeks probably won't rise to that level of new technology.

Depends on your tolerance for pain. ;) Within the first 14 days it should be merely paying a restocking fee if it has been opened (that is, if you buy direct from Apple; for other retailers you probably need to deal with their return policies). Beyond that you should check closely the terms of your warranty, and you probably should consider purchasing Applecare.

They let 1G iPhone stock dry up, too.

or fangirl? :D I am giving it until the 14th and thats it, I don't care! I know it is overpriced but the portability of taking it to uni is an attraction

lol my bad, i just found out last night u were a girl, cut me some slack:p
