Ok, almost if it wasn't for dial up. But seriously, I sold my macbook and am struggling to wait for my new :apple:. The library is no fun.

I already know the reply:

"We do not discuss future product roll-outs outside of Apple, Inc."

I think this is really lame.

I don't care about their consumer-lifestyle product lines. For professional computing equipment this policy is going to haunt them as soon all the current hype is settling and people realise what the Mac really is - a tool.

Edit: I am wishing these Psystar guys 'Good Luck' in their law-suite, if only to keep the Apple arrogance at bay.

Sounds like apple needs to address is loyal customers or they are looking at a growing hackintosh community.

but really,
apple is doing poor business right now with its "secrecy".

It would be against the law for Apple to do so, as it might give some an advantage on dealing with shares in AAPL. Afaik, this is the primary reason. They run a tight ship.

I second this. the overheating issue of macbook pros bugged me for a long time. it's hard to get the work done so I have to use hackintosh instead.

To be honest, I imagine at least 95% of all iminent MB/MBP purchasers have no idea that Apple is about to update the lines, so I hardly imagine Apple is doing "poor business".

You have a point there. But apple community has some peculiar interest on apple products and is a lot more aware of things than the PC community.

Well its easier to be interested in the products of one company than keeping up with all the different computers sold in the Windows / Linux market.

Please state some exact reference for this statement.

If that would be true Intel could not openly discuss their further processor roadmap (which they very openly do), Cisco could have no development roadmap, MS should not be able to talk about Windows 7 and SnowLeopard should not be known. So clearly there is a lot of evidence to the contrary....

No freaking kidding! I agree 100%, this is the conclusion that I've come to. Apple fans are well...fanatics. Not necessarily the "switchers" but rather true Mac people who have been here since the beginning of binary code on a screen. Why is it that other companies will at least keep their customers semi-informed on release dates and specs...yet we sit here in the freaking dark typing on rumour pages?!? Its actually starting to piss me off to tell you the truth, and its ALWAYS been this way since I bought my first Mac in '96. I remember the price of those things would fluctuate like the price of oil. As loyal customers, I think we all at least DESERVE to know the release date of the product and general specs (that won't compromise their competitive edge). I mean c'mon, common sense dictates what most of the components will be....we don't need to know ANYTHING about the case, that can be a surprise....if there's new groundbreaking technology that none of their competitors knows about (hard w/ all the patent applications flying around) then keep that a secret. I'm totally ok w/ that and love a good surprise at MacWorld like the next guy. HOWEVER, if I'm going to plunk down $3,000 on a brand new machine I would like to at least make an informed decision with my money. I'd like to know when its coming out so I can make a sane decision of whether to buy now or in one month...."oh, its coming out in October? Fine I'll buy now cause its FREAKING JUNE!" ..."Is it really going to be all glossy and have ONE firewire 800 port? Fine, I'll buy now because I need matte and TWO firewire ports for my work." ...or how about "I'll wait for a month because they'll have 320 gb drives AND expandable to 8gb or RAM which I need so no problem, you can have my money then."

Is this so unreasonable?

...its still not giving anything away. This whole thing is rather childish if you ask me....oooh the KGB and their spies, we can't let the microfilm fall into their hands. Sheesh. Just give us the date & the 'basic' specs. I'd even pay for this information AND sign a NDA, it would cause me less grief. Call it iWellness.

took the words from my....

LoL, ok I will...what his email again? I know its been on here b4.

can't wait , but like the other guy said I know their response " we do not discuss ........blah blah blah

Was ok for a while this secrecy thing but c'mon it's getting a little bit boring now , how on earth anyone who rely's on Mac's for business purposes manages to foresee what machines they need I'll never know , never mind the average Joe who just doesn't want to get burned 'cos they updated the machine he just bought weeks ago ...thus losing hard earned $£$£ overnight ....give us the specs , hell join in with what everyone else does & make a frikken road map already

No NEW MacBooks on Oktober 14th!!!

Having just read that Apple is reporting quarterly results on October 21st. I now firmly believe that we will see

No NEW MacBooks on Oktober 14th!!!

Either they release it before or well after, since a release a week before earnings are reported will confuse analysts...

Ok,
now this is getting silly. I have no idea if new systems will be announced on the 14th - but there is absolutely no correllation with the quarterly report. That makes no sense, and has no foundation in history.
There is nothing 'confusing' about it, IF it happened.

Well, they could still announce them the 14th of October. And make them available starting November.

Another reason why I think that might be the case is the following: http://www.apple.com/benl/backtoschool/index.html?CID=WWW-EUBL-BTS20080916-AL9XV

Our European student rebate ends 31 October. If one buys a current MB(P) one gets a refund of €125 on an iPod Nano or iPod Touch. So maybe after the 31st we see new stuff...

ahh , this is just getting silly now ...I needed a new machine waaay back in spring but waited ,and waited ...and I'm still waiting :( , see I just dont want to see my new purchase depreciate a massive amount just after I buy it(which it will if the thing gets updated the month or so after)

...Hang on though ..do you think that apple are deliberately doing this to pi*s everyone off who's waiting & trying to get 'us' to buy now ....won't work Apple ..I'm waitin , that's it now

Somehow I doubt Apple cares so much about analysts' peace of mind. I suppose it's better to have analysts confused than to have them all downgrading their recommendation to "sell"... If those results aren't as pretty as expected, they may want to publish them after the release of new MacBooks, so the expectation is that the next quarter will bring better results. Also notice that the only reason we can suspect correlation between the supposed release and results publication is because the latter has been put off.

The quarter ended yesterday it takes a few weeks to prepare the reports so it will not confuse analysts.

Has the policy been hurting them at all in many years theyve been offering notebooks?

exactly. I can vaguely recall someone posting on this site once with a quote from jobs saying he doesnt give a damn about the speculators.

Frankly I wouldn't care about those scumbags either (no offense to any speculators, i just really hate the idea that so much money depends on peoples expectations and opinions)

no , but it's been(is) hurting us consumers :(

it hasnt been hurting us either, it just frustrates us, so much so to the point that the whiney ones among us condemn a company for the practices that gave it such a special place in our hearts in the first place.
