So true.
Do you people honestly think including firewire would require Apple to raise the price of this machine?

Infact, they could include a firewire, SD card slot and a largerd hard drive, and still sell it for the same price - AND profit from it.

I also love how Apple is calling their new machine greener:

So the screen is green... what about the plastic case? Not so green? lol

The polycarb enclosure is recyclable.

Its made out of Hemp Oil instead of Crude Oil. You know, the special kind of hemp.

One side of me is disappointed that Apple didn't lower the cost of the MB any and another side is glad. If they had lowered the price to $899 I might have bought one. If $799 I definitely would have bought one. But at $999, I won't be buying one right now. I will now wait to see if/when the Tablet comes out and what it's price will be. That is the device I really want anyway. I guess I can limp along without a portable device (other than my iPhone) for a few more months. Come on Tablet.

FireWire is gone! If you need FireWire, now only a MacBook Pro will do.
Also gone is an IR port for a remote. As far as we know, that makes the MacBook the only currently shipping Apple laptop that doesn't support a remote. There's also no external battery indicator, a feature borrowed from the MacBook Air. Apple has also replaced Mini-DVI with Mini DisplayPort, and replaced the two audio jacks with a single audio in/out port.

Really? No IR port? No battery indicator? The lack of battery indicators and FW are really frustrating from a repair standpoint, I have to say, since I started working as a mac reseller, the battery indicator is quite important :). And no firewire means no target disk mode. I also get at least one person a day asking for a firewire to USB adapter.

Is anybody worried that now since it is carved out of single piece of plastic, unlike before top side will be reflective now!! It will be super smooth and shiny as bottom used to be and it will be super scratchable, I didn't mind it on the bottom since I'm not looking at it. but at the top I have feeling it will start looking old very fast and reflective so you can see every scratch even better!!!

I'm actually hoping that the new smooth surface material that is used for the top case will be easier to clean and less likely to absorb all kinds of micro-dirt and oil from your hand, thus also making it easier to keep it in its original color .

I don't really think there is a high probability of something scratching the inside of the laptop, except for a wristwatch maybe.

I think they will drop the price on the MB around the time when they drop the price on the MBA. The MBA is destined to slide into the $999 slot.

It wouldn't be the stupidest. Is that ur point ?

No, my point is that it would be the stupidest and I was surprised to see you expecting such lawsuits. I wanted to make sure you weren't just kidding. It should be obvious that the surface will likely attract fingerprints. If someone can't handle that, he or she shouldn't buy the product, but why does this property qualify the owner to claim damages or anything of that sort ? I think it's a ridiculous reason for involving the courts...

Well, at least from the big picture the lineup makes more sense- Firewire and some extra features in the pro model, cheaper price and less features in the basic model.

For those who need Firewire, the refurb MBP 13" is the much better deal at the same price anyway...

lol hahah
"Carved out of a piece of plastic" hehehehe

doesnt sound as impressive as "carved out of a piece of aluminium" does it.

Anyone worried here that Apple is now releasing far more Macbooks than before? We've gotten four new Macbooks in a year now?

Why be worried?

The laptop market is the biggest market out there. It only makes business sense.

?

Where does it say they are carved out of plastic? (honest question)

I would assume they use some sort of injection molding for these computers.

why can't they make them in black?

I'm constantly having to clean my whitebook because every speck of dirt shows
