I didn't think I had the energy left to get excited over Tuesday morning after the past several Tuesdays, but this is getting interesting.

Anybody else saw that ?

Product type: Brown goods ??
wtf ??

Lol ur right i saw that too! wtf? That, along with the fact that it says Macintosh Powerbook, makes me believe that it's not gonna be a MacBook upgrade tomorrow. I mean seriously folks! The rumor of a MacBook update was started by some reader who claimed to work at an apple reseller! Don't we get at least 5 of those posts everyday here? While there's a possibility that he's telling the truth about working at the store, if its an apple reseller probably the only people who would know about any apple computer or product upgrade would be the people who were high up in the company. way high up. So what makes this person's "inside information" more credible than the next?

I am more than satisfied witt my 2.4 SR MBP, their is nothing exciting till mid year/09 then we will be rocking:D

So plan on being disappointed real fast if something appears tomorrow, you have been warned!!!

New MBs insted of MBPs would be like a swift kick in the crotch.

I need a new computer before I start med school and decided to go with a MBP to replace my rapidly dying Toshiba, but after waiting and waiting I'm not so sure switching over to the Apple side would be the healthiest thing to do, judging by all the stress and self-destructive behavior that Apple creates in its customers (though perhaps this affliction is limited to the MR population). I've even deprived myself of sleep by waking up early these past Tuesdays to check the store updates. I feel like this kind of thing could lead to other compulsions and destructive habits. Before I know it I'll be chain-smoking in front of my computer each Tuesday morning waiting for the store to go down in one Firefox tab while playing online poker and posting "OMG...store's been down for 41.235 minutes!" in other tabs.

Damn you Apple! At least with Big Tobacco you know exactly what's coming.

I registered just to say that's the most insightful post I've seen on MacRumors in 3 years of lurking.

I just purchased a mid range macbook from best buy. Do you think if it is a macbook update they will be able to honor me returning this and getting the updated version. I just bought this on Sunday! :-( I obviously was expecting a pro update not a macbook.

I believe Best Buy charges a 15% restocking fee on open items. If you're OK with that, they will take it back. :)

Edit: Here we go again. Missed similar response. Should finish reading thread before responding. Sorry. Grrrr. That's what I get for not keeping MR on 24/7. LOL

Replacement Hint?!?

I ordered a replacement for my iBook G4 from the store using AppleCare a couple of weeks ago. They finally ordered my upgrades and charged my credit card on February 21st... with an estimated delivery of around... you guessed it... February 26th! *That's this Tuesday*

This is a Black "MacBook" and not a MBP... I want and would love the current gen MBP processor in a current or new Black MacBook...

If anyone works for Apple and/or has seen this before, I swear I have read about similar scenarios with waiting to deliver until after an update.

Thanks!

Brown Goods is industry jargon for the category of home electronics - TV's, DVD Players, stereos, home theatres, speakers, etc., etc.

There is also White Goods (fridges, washers, dryers), Small Appliances (electric toothbrushes, blenders, vacuum cleaners) and Kitchen Appliances (ovens, cooktops, range hoods).

It's how the industry divides up the different parts of a retail electrical store product range for their own convenience. It's been that way since the 50's - when your TV was brown (bakelite), your washer was white (and had a mangle) and your 50 pound hoover was "Small" !

I just bought a black MacBook on Sunday after finally giving up on the MBP update.

It's a great little machine and I figured I'd now have to watch the MBP model change from the sidelines, but at least I'd have an up to date MB to do it from. But if the MB gets updated tomorrow!!!!!!

Blood curdling screams will resound across my part of Sydney. I might just drive out to the airport, buy a ticket, sit on a United/Qantas plane for 14 hours to get to LA, rent a car, drive up to Cupertino and personally join the rampaging mob.

Do international participants have to bring their own pitchforks? ;)

Does Qantas allow those as carry-on?

My prediction is that there will be just two laptop ranges. One for the consumer that is light, stylish, short on features but ideal to use in conjuction with iTunes movie downloads and connecting to their iPods (Macbook Air). One for users who need more power with 13", 15" and 17" screens (all aluminium, with graphic chips, faster processors, etc). A clean, clear and simple range. Would Apple not go in this marketing direction?

I understand where you're going, but the Air is a bit too expensive at the moment to be the current consumer notebook. Plus, with the stripped down features, expensive components and lack of gigabytes, it's not a laptop for consumers... well, not yet anyway. Maybe give it a few years for custom-made, larger capacity HDD's and then we're talking. I see the Air as a step in that direction, as well as Apple testing the waters for that kind of thing, but it's certainly not there as a consumer notebook yet. Too expensive and too few features for most entry-level consumers. Plus, you'd need a larger HDD to go with the iTunes downloads. Remember, not everyone rents them.

Without a cheap consumer notebook, the "halo effect" from the iPods, iPhone and the like would be far less effective. Much fewer people would be happy to spend A$2500 on a consumer laptop without an optical drive and small hard drive in the current market. Maybe in a couple of years.

I haven't read through most of the thread but, has anyone thought that maybe Apple was changing the MBP model numbers from MA, to MB to avoid any confusing with it's recently introduced MacbookAir? (MA?), and iMac's using the MA?

Thus, you would then have two products starting with MA, and two with MB, as apposed to three MA's, and one MB?

Give me a completely upgraded macbook tomorrow and I will buy
tomorrow with no doubt....

although it would not be perfect without centrino 2 but as long as is a brand new macbook I will buy it ASAP

I see many people who just bought a new Macbook or blackbook crying crazily
out there.

C'mon, rumors are yet to be proven..... and if yes Apple rolled out a brand new macbook.... you either tell yourself you're happy with your decision you made at that point of time OR just pay the restocking fee and get the new MB

the rest of us who is waiting for new MB, load your wallet

bought a 2g ram last week

i don't know if it's just me being a newbie but i did buy a 2.2 ghz 2g ram macbook last week. i surprised to see it in the store coz i know that in the online store, macbooks were all 1gb ram.

sorry if i'm wrong but either way, i'm a very contented switcher.

Powerbook G5's this Tuesday!
That's strange...

Oh yes, they have a 'Rampaging Mob' clause. As long as you don't light up your flaming torches on the plane and promise not to lynch any of the flight attendants they're fine with it.

In fact, I believe that the air marshals are going to be re-armed with a 9mm pitchfork any day now. ;)

Powerbook G5's this Tuesday!

you know, i've been a mac head since early 90s, and if there's one thing i wish i hadn't missed -- it's following the rumor forums during the g5 powerbook threads!!! :D

while i read MOSR, i didn't think of reading through the forums. would've been hilarious. :D:)

It will always come up in a thread about new MBP's, someone will always say it.

It's just funny that the class of the product is "Macintosh Powerbook".
Finally some proof. ;)

A different upgrade scenario

I am in the camp that says a MacBook update tomorrow seems very UNLIKELY. I believe they have been updated in May and November for the last couple years.

If someone convinced me there was going to be a MacBook upgrade tomorrow, the only update that makes sense to me (but I don't think has been mentioned so far) is...

No changes of significance except moving to an LED backlight. Eco friendly and slight battery life bump. No processor bump yet - look how long it took the MacBook to get the Santa Rosa.

A speed bump or video card would put it too close to the MBP. And the plastic case helps keep the price down to provide a student/home entry level priced notebook.

I would LOVE an aluminum case on the MacBook and REALLY wish there was a backlit keyboard. But I think Apple will use these types of features to differentiate between the two product lines.

At some point the fingerprint attracting black matte finish will be revised and maybe go aluminum, but it seems very hard to believe the MacBook will get a case revision before the MBP gets an update.

Either no MB update tomorrow - or maybe just a backlight update... ?

It's a theory....
