Any possibility they are going to combine the lines (MB AND MBP) and leave the MBA as the new macbook and have a new line, not called pro which is the high end laptop?

I just want aluminum MacBooks with black Aluminum option. Then I would like to see Aluminum MacBook Pros with the same Aluminum case as MacBooks.

This is interesting. When I go to the MacBook page, and hit "Buy Now", it takes me to the UK store page. When I click Buy Now on any other product, it takes me to the normal US page.

EDIT: The same seems to happen with the MPB.

Thank God for that EDIT! I know that tomorrow morning I will be screaming, either in joy as I order my new MacBook Pro and listen to 'Into the West' or in frustration if no MBP is released.

The price change is consistent with other Apple product releases - pricing corrections to account for the strength of the Canadian Dollar ( or weakness of the u.s dollar - whichever way you want to look at it ).

I'd be highly disappointed if it were Macbook being updated only - they were only updated late last year. If this is the case Apple will surely be updating MBP very soon after: there isn't enough gap in ranges to justify the extra price.

Macbook updates: I'm betting slight speed bumps and multitouch touch pad.

There's no doubt they will eventually make the MacBook aluminum. After all, it's the only major Apple product that's still white. It hasn't been long since the last update. So, if it does get updated, it will probably come with a redesign.

wtf, macbooks on tuesday? where's the logic in this?

this would be the fastest macbook update in history.

not only does it make poor business sense to create such a technological gap between the two SKUs...

..but what about the hardware considerations for this? i mean from intel's current crop of processors, what is likely to happen here with speeds/features?

surely you must take that into consideration when passing around such a rumor. shouldn't MR be commenting on the the tech side of the update as well to better gauge the likeliness of this happening? (instead of just taking a shot in the dark)

from a processor/platform/hardware component/speeds perspective....IF this were true what would be the likely configuartion?

Hell All

I just purchased a mid range macbook from best buy. Do you think if it is a macbook update they will be able to honor me returning this and getting the updated version. I just bought this on Sunday! :-( I obviously was expecting a pro update not a macbook.

That's what's interesting about it. A short time between updates could mean that it's more than just an incremental update.

but returning it has a 15 percent restocking fee. Ill have to call them to find out tomorrow if they do end up updating.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I think this letter is where all the confusion is stemming from:

Hey there,
I work for the German Apple-Retail Chain ‘gravis’ (gravis.de)
and have just received new information about tomorrow’s product updates… I can tell you there will be NO new MacBook Pros!
But… the MacBook line will receive some updates. I don’t have precise information about this update, but afaik it’s only a minor one. Coming along with this upgrade, there is also a price-drop for the MacBooks (at least in Germany). The new low-end MacBook will be on sale for 999€. If this means any price-drops in the States is uncertain, as I have not received any information about it.

The MacBook Pro updates will also be delayed until (at least) April, due to Sony having some problems with their Blue-Ray SuperDrives. Afaik the Combo-Drives (reading Blue-Ray, but not writing them) are ready to be shipped, but Apple turned them down demanding SuperDrives, which -according to Sony- still suffer from some problems. (The blue laser does not seem to work correctly as does the slot-in mechanism… I have no idea why this mechanism works with the ComboDrives though… Big question-mark here!) It is also still uncertain whether the MBPs will receive a major upgrade e.g. new cases or not, but Blue-ray Drives will definitely come!!!

Well that’s all I can tell you right now, but if I receive any new information you’ll be the first to know.

Now, that's interesting... this is the source of all the confusion?

I call BS then :p - arn?

As the black kiss of death when it comes to buying new technology, i have a prediction that you will all enjoy..and i will accept thank you's tomorrow, but first the evidence

my apple history:

1. bought the iphone in september after a long thought process for$ 599.the next day it was dropped to $399

2. Sold that iphone to my sister, because is was all scratched up, and i had a bunch apple cards to get rid of, so i gave her my old and bought a new one with the gift cards.....next day the 16gb was released.

3. And thursday , i bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz off ebay, so i am willing to bet that mine will be delivered tomorrow around the same time the Updated version is released. i will almost guarantee it.

I have a feeling it will be a macbook update and a pro update, of course after just purchasing a new macbook. I didn't think they would update so fast!

Hopefully best buy will honor the update for me since i just bought it sunday

It's very unlikely that Steve Jobs will not do a keynote session if the updated MacBooks/Pros, that may be announced Tomorrow, will have a big design change.
I kind of agree that probably the MacBooks will be adopting the aesthetics of the MacBook Air sometime in the future, however the lack of some of the ports and bigger HDDs is impeding this to happen soon.

Does anyone know a rough ratio of Macbooks sold to MacBook Pros sold?

1:1?
1.5:1?
1:1.5?

I'm just wondering which has been a better seller for Apple, and by how much (if able).
