dude, sorry about your problems, but going to a PC's not going to be better...every company (even apple!) has QC issues...so some of us get hit with a stinker. i've had my logic board replaced on my ibook g4 and recently have had my battery quit...it's part of being a mechanical device...sometimes it's not going to work. as long as you have AC, they will fix it. no need for suicide...
Don't think he ever said he was going to a PC, though can anyone really blame him if he did? Chronic software issues (which I associate with PC's)may be a pain, but chronic hardware failures can be agony. My now 9-month peebook itself's on its third trip (in as many months) out to Apple service, and I've been told at the G-bar that while replacement/refund is and will always be out of the question, I'll at least have 2+ more years of Applecare to rely on--or 2+ more years of monthly downtimes.
Not that I've become some reformed devotee of the Cult of the White Apple--I still think Apple has a great OS and I'm really waiting for their next desktop--but I think Legacy's point is that one thing he didn't expect from his ibook (or me from my powerbook) were constant service interruptions well before the machine's first b-day, and that he's expecting the best and better in the upcoming Macbook. I too am pretty excited about the Macbook, believe it or not,
😱 if only to see what leaps forward Apple's engineers and designers have been able to make.
Though Legacy, if you're looking for something sturdier but just as portable, I have had several notebooks that have lasted me years (software issues notwithstanding, of course) from the PC realm. If I've ever sent one away for hardware service, I've never had to worry about it more than once every few years. But they'll also never have
😎 the same sort of mystique either.
Anyway, what I hope to see from tomorrow's (?) Macbook? On the higher end, at least, I don't see why the processor can't go up to 2.16 mhz. And if Sony can fit an nvidia 7400 in a 13.3" form factor, I'm sure Apple can do it with the same or the x1400--unless of course it's education market-specific. And it's just bound to look real cool. As for shooting over the moon, I'd say 7200rpm hard drives.
