Okay, so maybe you can help me understand. Everything that I can find online (and the RipIt website is about the least informative of any online resources) seems to say that RipIt only rips into ".dvdmedia" file format. In other words, RipIt only works with the DVD Player app, not, as the above tagline suggests, iTunes, iPod orTV. Even the RipIt site doesn't say anything about playing the movies on anything other than your computer, and the screenshot shows the ".dvdmedia" extension.
So, beyond the fact that the user interface is very, very simple, what is the advantage of RipIt over a free app like HandBrake that has easy to use presets for just about every type of use you could want?
I've never really liked macheist. In most cases, these little apps are not really that useful in my experience. For the one or two useful apps, I prefer to purchase directly from the source rather than from the macheist marketing machine. In the past I have noticed the apps are usually 'updated' with a non-free, major revision shortly after the macheist scheme ends.
Yes the latest version does not really need Handbreak any more, just got the update, love it. Now if they only made one for Windows 7 because the Windows ones tend to really suck and are really flaky.![]()
ok so use rip it to get the movie and download it, then use handbreak to compress it making it the same size files that you'd down load off itunes?
I'm getting my MBP back thursday how does this work does it download right then and there or can you go back and download at anytime want to buy it but not sure about the whole download process can anybody help?
i don't know if this is appropriate to ask, but, i already have a license for rapidweaver and ripit.
if it is allowed, i would love to sell it to somebody who would need it. PM me.
if it is not a good idea, i would love to hear from a MOD and i would edit my post appropriately.
thanks.
But it seems from two earlier posts that RIP-IT will not only RIP it to the HD BUT will ALSO COMPRESS the files? Anyone have experience doing both with Rip-it?
I would KILL for 20$ right now, I really want Tweetie in all honesty. I just don't have it ;( Why could this have happened in like a month *grumbles* Gotta keep using twitterific and tweetdeck ;(
Not to mention Monkey Island would have been cool and monkey solitaire.
The oncoming MacHeist 4 bundle might have a Macrumors link/advert. That is the way to do it and save the charities' cut for more noble causes - that's the spirit of the thing. Please, do not make a choice between supporting those in need and those in love with their Macs! I mean, you can support both soon, hopefully!
(Again, Pixelmator and PathFinder, please! If not in the next big one, put it in those covered bar-coded crates on the side! PLEASE!)
RIPIT is an EXCELLENT program... To the best of my knowledge the develop has never entertained transcoding within ripit
You do know that there's a free version of Tweetie for the Mac, right?
Okay people seem to get two very different functions confused or worse think they are the same task...
...
HandBrake, despite what people insist on stating is NOT A DVD RIPPER if a DVD is WITHOUT PROTECTION then HandBrake will generally transcode the movie files without incident. With the use of 3rd party applications that do their best to remove DVD copy protection behind the scenes FAIRMOUT comes to mind HandBrake will then be able to work directly from a DVD to transcode a movie (provided FAIRMOUT can circumvent the protections on the DVD). In short HandBrake is a FANTASTIC product once you fully comprehend what it does.. and that is convert video files from one format to another but ALMOST ALWAYS with a price, usually a loss of movie quality in exchange for a less CPU intensive movie format and almost always a smaller file size..
Right, but when Tweetie 2 comes out (which will be soon), are they going to have a free version of that? I've tried all flavors of twitter clients and Tweetie beats them all IMO.. Great user interface and everything is easy to find and nice on the eyes. I just wish it supported newer twitter functionality. Can't wait till version 2.
Actually, there is now an option under Preferences to "Use '.dvdmedia' Extension". If you uncheck this option, RipIt saves the DVD as a Video_TS folder. Also, there is a new Beta option for compression when the DVD is first inserted. This will allow you to copy a compressed version of the DVD, and it includes presets (in Preferences) for High Quality MP4, Apple TV, and iPhone/iPod Touch; however, you must download these components separately. You will be prompted to download these components when you select the Compression option.QUOTE]
Where does one locate beta downloads from?
