this is cool and all but does this mean no big macheist?

No, I think this is the "PR" leading up to the Heist. They have always given away s/w before a Heist, but usually its via Missions. Maybe they won't be doing Missions this time or maybe they have so much developer interest they have more apps than they need for Missions + Heist.

BTW DropBox and Twitterific have been give-a-ways before, making them useless to previous Heisters... but not new ones, so perhaps a clue that this is a pre-Mission, pre-Heist promo.

What's the catch?

looks like 500,000 people need to download the apps before you can even use them. Theres probably some catch as well once that happens...like trial versions. I'm passing. These are apps you dont need and wont use besides the initial time..

OMG have you read ANYTHING? NO they are not trial versions, NO there is no record of spam from MacHeist and for probably the third time the required number of sign-ups is ONLY for Mariner Write. JHC...

Anyway, looks like the Hoards of Orcs reg. servers are jammed, tried eleven times and says there's a problem.:D

^^ lol.

Yeah it won't let me input my serial for hordes of orcs. I guess i'll have to wait until their server is working properly or whatever. :(

How did you get a serial?... It just says they're working on getting those to me.

*edit* just read thread, now I feel like an idiot*

Just look at the MR frontpage, the amount of negative ratings for this article? It's sometimes difficult understand why people rate negative or positive. Why complain on something that is free, and not obligatory?

Besides, it is quite reasonable to give them a moment to create the serials, it's Heist, not haste. (stupid pun intended)

On another note, if you fear spam, just either 1) create an extra Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo/whatever-account for these occasions or 2) type random email address. At least I got my serials through the website, so you don't necessarily need to give in a real address.

or maybe they aren't jammed but they just will never work and your mac just got taken over by a bunch of Steve Job Zealots.

Is it possible to download these now, and then register them a lot later (when I buy my new computer in a few months)?

If you are doing any development of any kind tinygrab is a godsend (although I currently also have the beta of cloudapp). And shovebox is pretty drat useful.

I looked up tiny grab and it seemed to be OS X's own screen capture with some online uploading thing.

I guess that, when I said the apps were pointless, what I meant was that they're incredibly narrow-focussed and pointless to the vast majority of Mac users.

Having said that...

Wow, thanks for this bundle and for making it free! How some people can even think of complaining about the bundle because that this or that app happens to be useless to them is simply beyond reality. A bundle is what it is, i.e. a bundle of apps where some but never all will initially appeal to the user.

Personally, I bundles are a great way of exploring new apps. It reminds me of the old days before Internet where the way to learn about new apps was through the discs that came with MacWorld, MacFormat etc.

Even though I am mainly excited about Shovebox and Twitteriffic (I already bought Hordes) I am looking froward to trying put the other apps too. I am currently waiting for the serials (10 min)...

Having said all that I just discovered that the Shovebox feature I was interested in testing out (iPhone syncing) requires a paid iPhone app :/

Some of these apps look useful and for free might as well try them out.

Yeah, how dare the developer ask for money for HIS WORK!

That being said the reviews for the iPhone app are not very encouraging.

at first i was thinking that this would be awesome but then found out they are all crappy 30 day trials.

Just curious how you arrived at this conclusion. It's a wrong one, of course, but would love to know what led you to it. Where did you "find out" that they were all "crappy 30 day trials"? (even though they are actually fully licensed versions).

If he just downloaded the applications without entering the serial data (which has been delayed for many), he would have gotten the demo versions which would have needed unlocking. Without the serial numbers, the applicatinons are trials.
