@Howmanyds - if it's still sitting there (now 6 hours later) then methinks there could be an issue either with your USB installer or your target disk - boot in recovery mode and check your disk for errors (repair them if they exist). If no errors, I'd grab a different USB flash drive and remake the installer USB.

@ac2334 - only update after the initial Sierra install was the iTunes update (12.5.1.21). Yes, you should get all of the updates through the AUS patch.

@nitramwin - look in the thread for info on foxlet's AUS patch. That will give you a configuration that allows you to get updates, despite being an unsupported mac. And (2) - Yes, Time Machine works fine.

I installed Sierra on my Macbook Pro 15" mid 2009.

Everything went smooth once I disabled the System integrity protection. However now there's a major annoyance, my magic trackpad and mouse (gen 1) aren't full functional. They act like basic mouse and they lack all the extra functionalities. For instance I cannot make a click by just touching the trackpad, I need to press it.

Anyone has the same issue/solution for this? I found some with that kind of have a simillar issue here:
https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ed-macs-thread.1977128/page-115#post-23573440

except that for me I got none of the other feature but the most basics ones.

Is really to bad cause I can't live without those and I'll have to reinstall El Capitan if there's no fix.

Edit: I reinstalled the os for the sake of it and now it work. Go figure

mm okie dokie. guess i'll throw el capitan back on and try downloading and patching again. ty
Yes, probably best to start from scratch. You can keep us posted along the way..

Also:
- how did you acquire your Sierra image?
- I may have missed it, but exactly which flavor of Sierra are you trying to install ?
- describe your hardware. A good start is cut&paste information from System Profiler Hardware and Software sections
- does your machine check out: disk utility repair permissions ok - hardware diagnostics pass ok - can create usb boot disk in the normal way
- which version of @dosdude1 's utility do you have

All this can help us help you.

Good luck.

Hi,

I just want to report my experience. On MacBook Pro Mid 2009 15inch 5,3 I had recovery and safe mode broken (I got the No entry sign). This seems to happen to all 5,3 macbook as seen previously in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ed-macs-thread.1977128/page-115#post-23573333
Also when I used Etrecheck utility, removed some launch agents and launch daemons manually and rebooted my touchpad and keyboard suddenly did not work anymore. I tried to reset smc and to reset pram without success. Also without safe mode and recovery I felt a bit lost.
So I inserted my Sierra usb and tried to rerun the macOs Post Install tool from the patched usb Sierra image (holding option key at boot). This time I chose 5,3 suggested options again but I also ticked Recovery Partition Patch and Force Cache Rebuild and my mouse and keyboard started working again, also now at last recovery partition works... so far could not find a solution for safe mode.
I suggest dosdude1 to add recovery partition patch as a default to 5,3 models.
Also I hope someone can help us to shed some light on the safe boot problem on 5,3 models

OK, so in order to do this with my mid-2007 iMac I would need to upgrade to a mobile Penryn chip running at an 800 MHz FSB. The recommended chip is a T9500 @ 2.6 Ghz. I have a couple of Penryns, a Q9100 ES and a T9550. Both of these are 1066MHz chips. I assume that my EFI would choke on the quad-core Q9100, but would it just downclock my T9550 from 2.66 GHz (1066x2.5) to 2.0GHz (800x2.5)?

Safe Mode seems to not work on all unsupported models, I still need to look into that. As for the Recovery Partition Patch, I purposefully made that strictly an optional patch, since it technically isn't necessary to get Sierra to boot on a machine, however I can definitely make it a default option if you think that would be beneficial.

No, you can't use anything with a faster FSB speed. The chipset (Intel 965) doesn't support it.

I installed Sierra on my MacBook Pro 15" 2.53 GHZ Mid 2009 and it is working great! Thanks very much to dosdude1! Only issue was the amount of time it took to update Faces in Photos, but I have over 20,000 photos. It took about 48 hours during which the CPU ran hot and the fan ran constantly.

On the first Sierra boot up it could not detect my keyboard or trackpad but a second reboot found them fine. I have been running Sierra almost a week and one other time I got the message of a missing keyboard. Rebooted again and several times since and the message has not repeated.

I just used the AUSEnabler on the final release version of Mac OS Sierra.

Can anyone tell me if there have been any updates since the day that Sierra was officially released? Also, now that I have applied the AUSEnabler patch, can I expect to get regular OS updates in the App store along with my other app updates?

Thanks

Anyone who can answer this?

Yes, if you use AUSEnabler public seed branch, you should get all system updates as normal, at least that's how I believe it works. @foxlet hosts the server and wrote the tool, so he should be able to completely clarify.

Thanks Dosdude - to your knowledge have there been any updates since the official release? I looked myself for info and couldn't answer this..

There have not been, it'll be quite some time before 10.12.1 is released.

There have not been any updates to Apple's Production branch (and their catalog hasn't been updated since 2016-09-30), the only updates for Sierra are currently only in seed/beta.

What about other Mac App Store applications like Cyberduck, Skype, or Pro Apps? Would they update to the latest version knowing we have the latest os 10.12?

Application vendors are only going to update their apps for Sierra if they need to (or if there's some new feature in Sierra they can leverage for their app).

Only app of mine that didn't like Sierra was an MP4 conversion utility (but it's, obviously, not available through the app store) :) Update was already available on the dev's site.

Since upgrading to Sierra 10.12 on my late 2014 Mac Mini, I can no longer scan to my computer with my HP Envy 5530 All-In-One printer scanner. The HP website does not have drivers for OS 10.12.

I took a look here and your All-in-One is supported by Sierra: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201465

It could be that the drivers that were installed previously are older and not compatible with Sierra. I would delete the printer object (Apple Menu, System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, then highlight the printer and use the - key to delete it, then create a new printer object. (if it's physically connected to your mac, maybe disconnect/reconnect)

I have sierra running on my early 2009 Mac mini. I used a usb wifi dongle. I also ordered the replacement wifi card. I have yet to install it.

It shows 10.12 I have tried the update patch program it says not updates available. The app store shows sierra utilities but it will not allow me to install them.
Will we be able to stay up to date?

Should I update the plist file?

Not quite sure why you quoted the first post of this thread? (other than to annoy redheeler, as they would have received a notification).
Other than the iTunes update (noted at the top of the page) and I think there was a Pages update (if you have it installed), I haven't seen any other updates.

If you use foxlet's AUS Patch (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...ed-macs-thread.1977128/page-121#post-23592364) it will use an alternate catalog to allow updates, regardless of your machine being unsupported.

It sounds like you're trying to download the Sierra installer again?

The editor put the whole quote, I deleted al but the header. Just getting acquainted with the forum.
I was just toying with the idea of changing the device ID. It displays as mac-mini early 2009.
Probably a bad idea?

It works just fine, very well in fact. I'm just not clear on the future update path.
I have the update tool. I guess I use that from now on for system related files?
Thanks

By "the update tool" do you mean Foxlet's AUS update patch? If you're going to use the tool that dosdude1 does for system updates, that will likely not be updated until 10.12.1 (should be around the October - yet to be announced - Apple event).

You're better off using the AUS updater as you'll get any security updates which could be published.

I wouldn't go changing identifiers for your system. That could produce some pretty erratic patching by the software updater.

Apps from StoreFoundation are handled by a different repository than SoftwareUpdate (and outside of AUS's scope). If you can download them from the Store portion of the app store, then they'll be updated automatically.

I got the AUS patch. Ran it, it found 10.12.1 beta1 I selected and it is installing. It seems to be hung, I did this remotely, smart I know. I'll check it when I get home.
