@dosdude1 If I want to update Sierra in app store - can I? And if I can, do I need to do anything after updating regarding patches etc or can I just do any app store updates without problem now I have Sierra installed?? :)

As long as you applied the Software Update Patch, either using the post-install tool or by running the script found on my webpage, you will be able to update normally with the App Store.

I didn't tick or untick any in the post-install, I just let it do all the recommended. I did tick the recovery partition (unless that was already ticked) am I able to simply go back into the boot USB and re-apply the patches just to make sure? I don't know how to run scripts!

It is selected by default, so if you didn't deselect it, it will be installed.

[doublepost=1505428750][/doublepost]I am in Uk in Glasgow Scotland
The SSD needs to be formatted by Disk Utility, Mac OS X Extended Journaled on a GUID Partition map.
so you may have your original grey DVD discs which I would use to install I think it was probably Leopard.
You may have the Snow Leopard retail disc, if you do install that. This will probably most likely install version 10.6.3, you now need to update it to 10.6.8, download from here, https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US, you should now have the App Store installed on your Mac, now go to the Updates section in the App Store and install all updates that are available, it may be wise to do these one by one (click the 'more' text to expand the window), once you have installed all the updates in the list, go to the updates page again to see if more become available, repeat the procedure until your Snow Leopard install is fully up to date.
Now as long as you have used the same Apple ID on this new instal as you did on your previous install then you should be able to go to the Purchases page in the App Store and download El Capitan, once downloaded and before starting the installation procedure, make a copy of the Install Mac OS X El Capitan.app which can be found in your Applications folder.
Install El Capitan and use the App Store Updates page to get El Capitan up to date with security updates etc.
now that El Capitan has been installed you can now try to get Sierra installed. Boot into your El Capitan Recovery Partition
select Utilities from the menubar, select terminal and enter csrutil disable, once disabled enter reboot, click enter and the Mac should restart with SIP disabled. Check that you can boot from your Sierra USB on your MBP rather than your Mac Pro, if not you may need try making the USB again follow the procedure carefully from dosdude1, go to page 1 here
download the latest patcher app, and latest version of Sierra. Once that is done try installing it on the Mac Pro. again remember to read the instructions thoroughly before attempting.

Hello There,
I have a mid-2009 macbook 5,2 with Sierra 10.12.16 (updated from app store) up and running... up to 2 days ago...
I was experiencing the dimmed backlight screen from the latest update so i tried to resetting smc an pram and the SIP message come up... now from the last 5 restart i cant get keyboard/trackpad/usb/ir/bluethoot to work! The system boot without problems but i cant type only the power button works... The problem is software because when booting from another (usb) disk all is working.
Can sip have replaced kext or some other things? Can someone please help? I have a disk where i can run the terminal so maybe i can copy/replace some of the file i need to get back keyboard/trackpad and then re-disable sip!
Thanks for anyone who will help!

does mean I'm screwed and should resinstall from scratch? (happy to do so I if must)

BTW reinstalled 10.12.6 the screen is dimmed down...
There's no way to control screen brightness (brightness key on keyboard are working correctly but no response from screen).
Any kext/patch it's avaible to control brightness on 10.12.6??
Thanks Kind Regards
Rob

Actually, there’s a patch, per say, to restore backlight key funcionality and persistent brightness. (A patch as in it’s replacing specific system KEXTs and Frameworks with their El Capitan versions)

Found a solution to the backlight issues on the Macbook 5'2

Replace copies of AppleBacklight.kext & AppleBacklightExpert.kext in system/library/extensions, and a copy of DisplayServices.framework in system/library/PrivateFrameworks with their El Capitan counterparts. Backlight responds to keyboard controls and maintains user settings after this.

Additional note: It's possible that only one or two of these files is necessary; further testing may be necessary (though my Macbook is running stable with all three files using their El Capitan versions so far)

Here's a zip with both backlight extensions from El Capitan & the Display Services framework, sorted into appropriate folders.

File: MC240LLa Backlight Framework and Extensions.zip

Quick question - has anyone managed to get Sierra running on a Macbook 4,1? I acquired one for free a little while ago and have been thinking about what to do with it but didn't want to start down this path if there's no hope... (main machine is fully supported so I have installers etc.).

** It is the final version of that style of macbook (early 2008) and has a Penryn 2.4 Core 2 Duo so I thought it might be viable unlike the earlier iterations of the design with older architechtures

FWIW - I was unable to get my Mac Pro 3,1 to boot from a USB stick at all. I wound up using an old SATA Hard Drive instead.

I was also unable to boot Sierra off a USB stick with my 3.1 macpro However MacOS High Sierra boots off a USB stick. Strange

It may be due to the stick or the formatting of it. I had a hell of a time getting El Capitan installed on a fresh HDD on my MacBook 5,2 (bought it w/o a hard drive), as it wouldn't boot from the SD card I had (was using a card reader that registers as a generic flash drive). Wouldn't even show up as an option on the boot screen. I can't remember what I did but it took me forever to get a working solution.

Macs seem to be particularly picky about the formatting and layout of storage mediums when macOS is involved (doesn't really seem to care about Windows however)

Interestingly, my MB5,2 is no longer resuming from sleep correctly. When I open the lid the screen will either be off, or blank/black but lit, and the power light will be off; However, the computer's fans will kick back on.

I enabled hybrid sleep on this ages ago because the battery is bad; a gentle tug from the cord is all it takes to kill it; so I can easily just reboot from where I left off. But it's none the less strange. I don't think it has anything to do with the kext & framework replacements for the display services (as it was resuming from standby properly a couple days ago), but I don't know for sure.

I too am getting this. It looks like the security Certificate may have expired back in 2016.

Has anyone noticed this Safari 11 rendering issue in Sierra with machines with the nVidia GeForce 9400M? eg. MacBookPro5,5 or MacBook5,1, etc. See here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...cbook6-1-please-try-this-safari-test.2069901/

We are getting this issue in High Sierra with Safari 11. Interestingly, this is the one and only bug that has been found running High Sierra's Safari 11 on these machines. Everything else works perfectly.

People have enough problems just getting El Capitan on MacBook4,1, much less Sierra. The GPU is GMA X3100.

I ended up retiring my MacBook4,1 and buying a MacBook5,1 for under US$150. You could probably sell a MacBook4,1 for over $100 though.

I am currently running HS (17A360a) on a MBP 5,5 (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB) with Safari Version 11.0 (13604.1.38.1.6) and have the same issue.

Wow!! Cool! It's works!
First of all tried just DisplayServices and FKeys of brightness did work but very laggy
After that I'm replaced kexts and reboot..I'm stupid. Mac reboot twice and Fkeys of brightness not response
So I guessed, open Kext Utility just wait for cache rebuild and reboot and this is it! Works like a charm
Thank You man! Remained just trackpad issues
Sorry for my English

upd.. Now I found Night Shift is broken
but color temperature changing

Thanks for this!! It´s works perfect! I´m so happy

Sill didn't work. thank for trying tho.

What version of Sierra are you running? the El Capitan files are working for me on 10.12.6, but I haven't used an earlier version of sierra to know if it handles the fix the same. I also had the Night Shift CoreBrightness patch installed prior to replacing the frameworks.

can you try the 10.12.3 versions

As in replace the El Capitan frameworks with earlier Sierra ones? I suppose I could try them later on using @dosdude1's script, but I'm not altogether sure what difference it would make. (Then again, it seems mileage varies with others trying the same thing I did with the El Capitan frameworks.)

Sorry if I seem a little obtuse. I'm still new to some of this; the backlight fix was literally trial and error on my part, randomly replacing system frameworks and kexts that had to do with power, display, or lighting. (Hint: Don't mess with the power frameworks or else you'll be doing a lot of typing in Single User mode to restore the originals).

@dosdude1 Love your software! Do you have any experience with the internal keyboard and track pad not working on the seirra OS ? My internal keyboard and trackpad arent responding except in the windows partition and my back up verisions of my OS. So the hardware works... If I screenshare, I can control everything (the keyboard and mouse) which makes me think its somehow software.. but the traditional methods dont seem to fix it... also my recovery partition doesn't allow me to select terminal.

let me know if youd like any diganostics...( pictures of system profiler, stuff from terminal! videos of it working/not working)
