Yes all HFS+. both systems are HFS+.
Tried APFS installer once just to see if it makes any diff.
I just tried again with 20G SSD installer with b12 patcher same result, crash once select language.

The reason I asked if you are trying to install macOS Mojave on a internal or external ssd or hdd as I have a iMac 8,1 and 9,1 I tried installing on two usb 2.0 external usb neither one would boot so I wiped both my internal HDD's and install macOS Mojave both APFS no issues so I installed macOS High Sierra on both my external HDD's

I can confirm that too. I don't even know why Apple Stopped supporting this specific model...all works well.

I went ahead and updated my Mac Mini 4,1 to the latest public beta with the latest Mojave Installer. I went ahead and blew away the previous hard drive image and did a clean install. After installing and going through the post-install utility, all is operating correctly.

Not sure I have the guts to try it on either of my Mac Pro 3,1s (primary desktop and main household media server) since both of those machines are in production roles. The primary desktop has SoftRaid which is asking for trouble in this exercise. 🙂

I am trying to install to internal SSD of MBP. I never get to the point where I can select SSD to install.

here are steps I am doing.
-boot patched installer USB
-format HFS+ internal SSD when a side popup with "Disk Util" "Terminal" "macOS Post Install"
-at this point there is a big window with languages to select. selected 'English"
-continue and crash
-reboot and try again without format internal SSD, same result
I had it working once with beta2 mojave. Now I can't get beta3 . to install at all. I have tried diff USB, SSD, diff size to no success.

Unfortunately no. But this SSD was working with beta2 mojave with patcher b5/6?
I will get a new USB tomorrow and try again although I already tried 4 diff USB and 2 SSD installers. These are the only common with 2 systems I am having problem.

that happened to me on my iMac 8,1 so I formatted my usb flash drive Mac extended journaled then created the macOS Mojave patcher on my iMac 9,1 while if formatted my hdd in my iMac 8,1 using the macOS High Sierra patcher then when I was ready I unplugged everything from my USB ports except my keyboard and mouse at macOS patcher and that worked installing macOS Mojave on my iMac 8,1

It is also advisable to run first aid on your usb macOS Mojave patcher and your ssd

I experienced similar issues on both my 5,2 and 8,2, and in both instances it turned out to be an incompletely written USB installer. Recreate your installer, but don't be in a rush to re-boot once it reports complete. I noticed that there was significant activity on the drive afterwards. The USB installer created by waiting until drive activity had ceased was used to successfully install Mojave beta 18A336e on both machines. Patience is the key. During both installations, there were periods where no activity was apparent (after selecting a wifi link), and a hard reboot was required. The installations then completed without further incidence.

I installed to an external HDD and an external SSD.

Yes. The installer does print out a Done or Completed message (I forget). Always wise to wait until you see that. Things get buffered, cached differently depending on how you're doing this.

I see the issue, but that's something that's been fixed in Beta 12 of the patcher... Are you SURE that's the version you're using to create your USB drive?

Yes I did that first, unless I need a new version of the patcher updater. It said I was still on version 0 of the legacy sound patch.

Thanks dosdude1 I knew you would spot the problem. I downloaded a couple of times and thought it was v12, never check. Turned out it was v11. With v12 now it is installing as it should. Thanks so much dodude1.

I renamed the USB drive to OS X Base Install and it still failed with a bunch of these errors. I had no problems with earlier versions and I am currently on 18A326h. Was hoping to update to the latest dev 4/ public beta 3, but not able to create the USB installer.
Any workaround?

I named it exactly what it named it BEFORE I ran the patch installer and it worked fine.
