I left mine unencrypted as I did not like not being able to use my Mac for a day when I accidentally encrypted it using file vault I ended up erasing my drive and did a clean install 🙂

Worked from b3 to b4, although I'm having trouble with this from b4 to b5. But it may just be my configuration...

to verify what seed you are on check the software update when it finishes checking for updates under the gear is should say whether your on beta seed or developer seed 🙂

for example High Sierra could use 64 bit encryption and Mojave could use 128 bit

Maybe I was only as a beta tester. Today I enrolled my device as developer... Maybe they are different versions and that's why the installer send a new developer copy... What do you think?

Oh I'm definitely on developer seed. Never touched a public beta. Both my mp 3,1 and mbp 5,3 were in-place system updated from b3 to b4. If others aren't having issues, it must be my configuration. I'll post back if I find out what's wrong. I can always full install...

I tried using the SWU Switcher on my iMac 8,1 to go from beta seed to developers seed check for the update didn't show even though I installed it on my iMac 9,1 so maybe the update goes in phases like windows
 
I have tried to update from b4 to b5 on a MacBook Air 3,1 and an iMac 12,2 through Software Update. On both, the installation progress bar is stuck halfway across with 2 minutes to go. I cannot detect any HDD movement on the iMac, which is installing to an external TB spinning hard drive.
 
Hm...
Just made the usb stick from dosdudes mojave patcher and installed beta4,
But after reboot my mbp 5.4 is stuck on the white screen with the apple logo....

What now?

O.k. after hard power off snd on again it seems to work now.

since my macOS Mojave was installed on a external usb hdd on my iMac 8,1 so I checked with it plugged into my iMac 9,1 still no update so yes the plot thickens

By nature of the way SSDs work, you don’t need to use 35 pass. Either a pass of zeroes or a utility that will issue TRIM to the whole drive would suffice. Multiple passes are only necessary for magnetic media. All you’re doing with more than one pass is wearing out the flash memory on your SSD

You may want to try re-installing the Software Update Patch from the Patch Updater tool if you've done an update on that machine previously... It can get overwritten during updates.

I did that only once, though. Never again, I would rather throw the disk in the blender.

But, I still see that this myth is very alive, that says that deleted data on the SSD is unrecoverable.

This is wrong, and it has been proved wrong many times.

If you don’t overwrite data at least once on an SSD, yes, it can be recovered. And yes, simply deleting files will not wipe the data off the underlying disk, and that can also be recovered (the nature of filesystems). But you don’t need more than a one pass wipe to prevent recovery on flash media; that is not a myth.

Edit: actually, even better. Since a lot of drives use overprovisioning (larger capacity of flash than is exposed to the system), a software level wipe may not even always get everything. You should be using either a TRIM or manufacturer utility that provides a secure erase command.

for those on the public beta seed PB4 has been released 🙂 if anyone has issues with PB4 not showing in software update go the the apple beta software program and enroll your Mac and download and reinstall the access utility again I'm downloading now PB4 🙂

I'm getting some system updates for xcode command line tools (beta5) So I know it's not completely hosed. Still no system update to b5 in sight. Can one selectively re-install just the software update patch? And does it still just add the Faker dylib?

I tried installing the software update patch still didn't show a update so I went on the apple beta software program and reinstalled the macOS beta access utility and I am downloading the PB4 now its the same as Dev beta 5 and the PB4 update is 5.87 GB were DB5 was only 3.08 GB

Ok. Tell me if does an update or just downloads the full installer.
